Residents of Massachusetts will reportedly lose $660 million annually if the delay to Wynn Resort’s casino plans for Everett continues.

State media outlets reported that the casino operator warned the state of a “dark cloud” that Somerville’s appeal of its environmental permit would bring. In a press release, Wynn Resorts said the figure includes some $242 million the casino would pay in annual taxes and fees, as well as the $170 million in payroll and the $248 million for casino operations.

In addition, “the delay will reportedly put 4,000 union construction jobs, 4,000 permanent jobs and $30 million cleanup of the former Monsanto chemical factory at risk,” Patch.com reported.

Last week, Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone filed an administrative appeal that questions the environmental permit that Wynn Everett received from the Department of Environmental Protection in January of this year. Curtatone believes the casino project will seriously affect “the health of city residents as an estimated 18,000 people per day are expected to drive to the casino.”

The company’s profit for 2015 fell 70 percent to S$193.1 million ($138 million), which according to Thomson Reuters data, was Genting Singapore’s smallest since 2010, the year when the Resorts World Sentosa first opened.

For the fourth quarter of 2015, the casino operator’s net profit was also down to S$22 million, compared to Q4 2014’s $118.9 million. Genting’s adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) also fell 5 percent to S$181.3 million for the period.

In a five-page ruling, Chief District Judge David Barker of Clark County in Nevada said the casino firm failed to provide “new grounds to remove” Gonzalez from the case, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Gonzalez has been presiding over Jacobs’ suit for more than five years.

“This court thoroughly evaluated defendant’s arguments and exhibits and found no evidence Judge Gonzalez has actual bias or implied bias in favor of or against any party to this action,” Barker wrote in his ruling, according to the report.

Jacobs filed lawsuit against the Las Vegas-based casino operator after he was abruptly ousted from his CEO role at Sands China Ltd. in July 2010 for still somewhat murky reasons. Jacobs headed Sands’ China operations for about nine months before he was fired, which he claimed came after Sands chairman Sheldon Adelson “pressured him to use illegal means to gain leverage over government officials in the gambling enclave.”

The commission has released draft regulations that could put video and arcade-style slot machines into Massachusetts casinos. The move is intended to attract a younger generation of gamblers, who have been found to gamble less in favor of other casino offerings like nightclubs.

Executive director of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers Marcus Prater said that the so-called “skill-based” slot machines are meant to appeal to millennials who tend to skip over traditional machines because they see them as old-fashioned.

“This is something totally new,” Prater said. “Players have never had the option, in any market in the world, to influence the outcome of the game.”
