Melco Crown turns to tech to drive banned customers away from its casinos

Lawrence Ho’s Melco Crown Entertainment is reportedly stepping up its technology game to prevent banned players from re-entering its casinos.

The casino operator is the first in Asia’s gaming hub to install a specialized face recognition technology developed by German biometric firm Cognitec. The system, called FaceVAC-VideoScan, is capable of detecting people’s faces in live video streams, which are then compared to databases of banned persons.

If there’s a match between the information collected and the photos in the casino’s system, it will immediately send real-time alerts to the security staff who will deny the detected player entry into the casino.

The company also said its software “also allows to compute demographical information, client behavior, people movement in time and space, and frequent visitiors.”

Somerville challenge could delay Steve Wynn’s Everett casino for a year

Steve Wynn’s Wynn Resorts is gearing up for another round of legal battle, one that could potentially delay the opening of the casino giant’s $1.7 billion casino project in Everett.

The Las Vegas casino operator just recently came out from a bitter fight with the city of Boston. Last week, gambling regulators in the state of Massachusetts approved the deal that would see the casino giant compensate the city for traffic and other expected problems associated with the casino in exchange for Boston City Mayor Martin Walsh agreeing to stop filing lawsuits against Wynn Resorts.

Now, another Boston suburb is challenging Wynn Resort’s planned casino development in Everett.

State media outlet WCVB.com reported that the city of Somerville filed an administrative appeal last Thursday that questions the environmental permit that the casino operator received from the Department of Environmental Protection early this year.

Netanyahu to discuss viability of Eilat casino with transportation, tourism ministers

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu continues chasing his dream of finally opening a casino in Israel.

Netanyahu is reportedly planning to sit down with his transportation and tourism ministers to assess the viability of opening a tourist-only casino in the southern city of Eilat, located close to a proposed international airport, according to Israeli news outlet Haaretz.

Quoting the Prime Minister’s Office, the news report said “the meeting was only a preliminary one, and that no concrete plans were drawn up yet.”

Netanyahu has been pushing for a casino in the country, initially during his first term as prime minister and then again as a finance minister several years later. Last year, the prime minister tapped two of his cabinet members—Ministers Yisrael Katz and Yariv Levin—to conduct feasibility studies on opening a casino in Eilat, a city on the Red Sea coast.

3-Barrels: Negreanu & Peters Opine on The GPL; Draft Lottery on Twitch

3-Barrels of value from the Global Poker League as Daniel Negreanu airs his views on the recent contract complaints; PokerNews Editor-in-Chief, Donnie Peters, asks why more of the Global Poker Index Top 25 didn’t sign up; and Draft Lottery will be shown live on Twitch.

With the Global Poker League (GPL) Draft less than a fortnight away, we bring you two opinions and one fact to get your teeth into.

We will start with one of the most famous faces in poker: Daniel Negreanu. The PokerStars figurehead dabbed some ink over his personal blog this week; most of it splashed over his opinion on the contract disharmony that has broken out over Twitter this week, and I think he pretty much nailed it.

“The “fairness” of a contract issued to a player is in the eye of the beholder.” Wrote Negreanu before continuing to remind players that they are effectively getting a free roll by the GPL and if they are not happy with that, then don’t sign the contract.

Premier League Week 26 Review: Spurs & Arsenal Inch Closer to Leicester

Week 26 of the Premier League sees Arsenal deliver a blow to Leicester’s title chances; Spurs move into second after victory at Man City, and Liverpool trouncing Villa.

Leicester City fans were left choking on their Sunday roast after forgotten England star Danny Welbeck snatched a last minute winner at The Emirates.
