Ben Askren returns to ONE Cage to face Russian foe

ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben “Funky” Askren would like nothing more than to return to the cage and do what he does best and that’s to get in, dominate, and get out. The 31-year old former NCAA Division I wrestler from Arizona has been out of competition for nearly a year, but the good news is, he’s about a month away from climbing back in.

Askren (14-0) will face Russia’s Nikolay Aleksakhin (17-3) in a five round welterweight bout for Askren’s title. The bout will headline ONE Championship’s first event in Manila this year, called ONE: GLOBAL RIVALS.

Last April 2015, Askren battled hulkish Brazilian foe Luis “Sapo” Santos to a No Contest ruling after Santos deemed himself unable to continue after an inadvertent eye poke. A highly-anticipated rematch was scheduled months later in Singapore, only to have Santos miss weight and the bout cancelled at the eleventh hour.

In the first bout, Santos used his indomitable size and strength to throw Askren around like a ragdoll, manhandling him like never before seen in his career. Inevitably however, Santos began to fade and it started to look like Askren was about to take over — and then the bout was cut short and the rest was history.

Colorado lawmakers want to solve lack of oversight over daily fantasy sports sites

Another state is joining the daily fantasy sports regulation fray.

The issue of curtailing, regulating or banning pay-for-play fantasy sports leagues is being handled differently in each state. So far, there are at least eight states in which league operators are either outlawed or have pulled out over questions of legality.

Colorado, which is home to an estimated 800,000 fantasy sports players, has no specific restrictions over fantasy sports. Until last week, that is.

Lawmakers in Colorado introduced a bill that seeks to create a “Colorado Office of Fantasy Sports,” which will draft regulations that will make sure fantasy sports games are “played fair and square and not as a front for illegal gambling,” The Denver Post reported.

But SIGMA wants to bring more to the table, which is why at the last year’s conference, event organizers took feedback from delegates and exhibitors. And they took all these suggestions very seriously, launching a number of key upgrades this year.

This Isn’t The Final Four Betting Round Anybody Expected

As gamblers everywhere prep for Final Four betting this coming Sunday, April 3rd, it’s hard not to think about the precarious upsets that have prevailed over the course of this entire tournament. I mean, Syracuse is here. Seriously. What the hell.

The Orange are such an unlikely entry in to this stage that 0.83% of all brackets online had them getting this far. That’s why the Final Four betting line they face this weekend against the UNC Tar Heels is what it is. By comparison, UNC was in 51.84% of all Final Four submissions prior to the start of the tournament.

Oklahoma came second thanks to the awe inspiring scoring of Buddy Hield. The Sooners were in 38.29% of all Final Four brackets, while people fell asleep on Villanova for very good reasons. A mere 11.12% of the brackets had Villanova reaching this level.

So are we in for more unpredictable action, or is it safe to go chalk? Well, fortunately for us, the oddsmakers handed us a favor in the first game. Let’s look at the Final Four betting matchups and figure out what to do with our money.
