Amaya CEO Baazov charged with insider trading over Rational Group purchase

Shares in Canada’s Amaya Gaming plunged by more than one-fifth on Wednesday morning after securities regulators charged CEO David Baazov (pictured) with insider trading.

Early Wednesday, Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the stock watchdog in Amaya’s home province of Quebec, filed a total of 23 charges against Baazov, Amaya staffer Benjamin Ahdoot and Yoel Altman, a close friend of Baazov who formerly served as a financial advisor to the firm.

The charges stem from an AMF investigation into the surge in Amaya’s share price ahead of the company’s 2014 $4.9b acquisition of the Rational Group, the parent company of PokerStara and Full Tilt, which overnight turned Amaya into the world’s top online gambling company.

Baazov’s charges include aiding with trades while in possession of privileged information, influencing or attempting to influence Amaya’s market price and communicating privileged information.

Poker Central Live at the Bike Set For April Debut Date

Poker Central, the world’s only 24/7 poker channel, has promised more live content for 2016 starting with Poker Central Live at the Bike scheduled for release in April.

Poker Central continues to make up for lost time with the news of more original live content planned for 2016.

The first of these new offerings is a show called Poker Central Live at the Bike and as you can guess from the title it’s a poker show concentrating on live cash game action from the Bicycle Casino in California.

Poker Central launched in October 2015 with a less than impressive roster of programs. They promised 24/7 poker action. They never made promises about the quality. The content was old, dated and often dull. However, things are slowly starting to pick up, with new shows and ideas produced every couple of months.

Blocked websites in Malaysia reaches 399

Malaysia continues its war against websites, including online gambling sites, the country has deemed illegal. On Friday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that it has blocked access to 399 websites up until February 2015.

Twenty two of the 399 sites were investigated, and according to Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak was quoted by the Malaysia Kini saying they found the sites “have misused the Internet and new media.”

“Among the websites blocked include online gambling, scams, prostitution, and websites that contain obscene, lewd, false content and others,” the minister said, according to the news outlet.

Critics believed that sites should be put to trial before they were blocked, but the minister asserted that “the commission can’t afford to wait for a court decision before blocking websites,” some of which they claimed were “detrimental to society.”

Aussie government vows to remove double taxation of bitcoin

The government of Australia has vowed to exempt digital currencies, such as bitcoin, from double taxation.

In a recently released policy statement, the Australian Government Treasury said it plans to make a country as a fintech destination first by reducing tax barriers for fintech investment, and then by curbing the existing goods-and-services tax (GST) levied on virtual currencies.

“The government recognizes that that the current treatment of digital currency under GST law means that consumers are ‘double taxed’ when using digital currency to buy anything already subject to GST,” the government said in a statement.

Currently, there are more than 600 digital currencies around the world, each “with different protocols for transaction processing and confirmation.”
