Yahoo exit New York daily fantasy market, intro fish-friendly ‘Fair Play’ changes

A day after the two leading daily fantasy sports operators exited the New York market, third-ranked site Yahoo has pulled its own DFS offering from the state.

Monday saw DraftKings and FanDuel agree to stop offering paid DFS contests to New York players until state pols approve the necessary legislation or the appellate courts give DFS a legal all-clear. Yahoo had stayed shtum on its New York intentions but a good night’s sleep has apparently cleared their minds.

On Tuesday, Yahoo issued a statement saying it “believes its contests are lawful” but was nonetheless suspending paid contests in New York as of Wednesday (23) “pending further review.” Yahoo stressed that its decision had no bearing on users in other states.

New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman, who has aggressively challenged DFS companies’ assertions that they aren’t illegal gambling operators, said he was glad “these companies have agreed to follow” his interpretation of New York law.

Philippines seek money laundering charges against two gaming industry figures

Philippine authorities have requested that money laundering charges be filed against two local casino industry figures in connection with the millions heisted from Bangladeshi central bank accounts last month.

On Tuesday, the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) filed criminal complaints with the Department of Justice against Kam Sin Wong aka Kim Wong, the president and GM of Eastern Hawaii Leisure Co Ltd, which operates a casino in the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority.

The AMLC is also seeking charges against Weikang Xu, an ethnic Chinese junket operator who may or may not be a Philippine passport holder. Xu is accused of receiving $30.5m of the $81m that was improperly transferred from Federal Reserve Bank accounts in New York to a Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) branch in the Philippines.

Wong stands accused of withdrawing around $21.6m of the transferred funds from his personal and corporate accounts. Wong’s attorney Victor Fernandez issued a statement saying his client returned to the Philippines from Singapore on Sunday and is ready to testify before the Senate panel conducting an inquiry into the international scandal.

A WA player will wake up $40 million richer on Wednesday morning – having scooped the entire division one prize in Tuesday’s night’s OzLotto jackpot draw. There was a single division one winning ticket sold nationally in the draw, with the winning numbers of 38, 32, 37, 9, 17, 19 and 1. The supplementaries were 22 and 41. Lotterywest is yet to reveal the location the winning ticket was sold and generally does not do so for division one prizes until the winners have come forwards.
