888Poker has added more weight to their Brazilian marketing campaign with the signing of the former World Cup winner Denilson.

888Poker has inked a deal with the former World Cup winner Denilson. The Brazilian star becomes the online poker rooms solitary celebrity ambassador. Former cricket legend Shane Warne held that honour before parting ways with the second largest online poker room in the world at the turn of the year.

It’s not the first time 888Poker has turned to a football star to try and draw attention to the site. They will be hoping that this one will be more successful than the last. In May 2014, 888Poker pulled off a major coup when they signed the then Liverpool and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez.

The signing occurred on the eve of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil where Suarez was sent home in disgrace after biting Giorgio Chiellini during a group match against Italy. 888Poker parted ways with him after he received a four-month ban from “all football-related activities.”

PokerStars plan to increase their rake on some select games across their shared liquidity markets while affirming that the changes still leave them ahead of the competition.

The PokerStars fan club may be losing a few more members after Eric Hollreiser, VP of Corporate Communications for Amaya and PokerStars, announced plans for a series of rake increases.

A Tory MP with a history of supporting gambling interests has hit back against claims that he received favorable treatment from bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Over the weekend, The Times newspaper reported that MP Philip Davies (pictured far right) – who worked as a bookmaker before being elected to Parliament in 2005 representing Shipley in West Yorkshire – received “extremely favorable” treatment from Ladbrokes regarding his personal betting account.

Specifically, The Times claims Ladbrokes imposed restrictions on Davies’ account way back in 2006 after the bookie determined Davies was employing a ‘bad each way’ strategy by backing second- and third-place nags in horseracing events. A source told The Times that Davies was likely netting something in the “low thousands of pounds” per year in order to have triggered the restrictions.

Davies reportedly contacted a Ladbrokes director to complain about the restrictions, which The Times claimed were subsequently lifted. Racing UK pundit Dave Nevison told The Times that the lifting of such restrictions represented “extremely favorable treatment” of a winning punter by a bookmaker.
