CrownBet cops to illegal NSW inducement; CITIbet’s carpark cash controversy

Australian online betting operator CrownBet has been convicted of illegally offering come-hither glances to bettors in New South Wales.

Last week, Liquor & Gaming NSW, a branch of the state’s department of justice, had its day in court with CrownBet, the online betting arm of casino operator Crown Resorts. CrownBet stood accused of five counts of using prohibited advertising to convince NSW punters to take the plunge.

NSW law prohibits betting operators from offering financial incentives to wager or open new online betting accounts. The bonus offers for which CrownBet was charged reportedly appeared on the company’s website in October and December last year.

CrownBet originally tried to resolve the charges without being tagged with the scarlet letter of conviction. In the end, CrownBet took its lumps and copped to all five charges, for which the company was fined $10,500 plus an additional $10k to cover the NSW watchdogs’ legal costs.

Bet365’s founding family fortune rises 60% in one year on Sunday Times Rich List

The family members behind privately held online betting operator Bet365 have made their first appearance in the top-25 of the most recent Sunday Times Rich List.

The Times’ annual list of the UK’s richest 1,000 individuals showed the Coates family – father/founder Peter, daughter Denise and her brother John – leaping 20 spots to #24 last year with a combined net worth of around £3.8b, 60% higher than in 2014 and more than tripling their 2013 total.

Bet365 also earned the title of the highest ranking digital business on the Times list, while Denise Coates (pictured) was singled out as Britain’s “richest self-made woman.”

Despite the Coates’ meteoric rise, the top gambling-related chart position – and the top position overall – belonged to brothers David and Simon Reuben, whose co-ownership of the Arena Racing Company helped boost their net worth to £13.1b.

WPT Tournament of Champions: Dreams Do Come True For Farid Yachou

The inaugural World Poker Tour Tournament of Champions winner is Farid Yachou, a cafe owner from Amsterdam, who had never set foot in a casino before his first WPT Main Event title win in May. Now he has two.

When Adam Pliska and the team decided to dump the World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championships into the garbage, replacing it instead with the WPT Tournament of Champions (TOC), I imagine there was a future vision of a TOC Wall of Fame containing mugshots of the WPT’s most famous sons.

If that’s so, the first-ever event didn’t go to plan.

Unikrn founder, Rahul Sood, shares his concerns over underage gambling in the video game industry, and the Electronic Sports League (ESL) pulls the rug from under YouPorn’s professional eSports team.

It’s a perilous world for parents these days.

Advancements in technology and the need to keep up with the Jobs and the Musks mean our children could be up to anything behind the closed doors of their little boy or girl caves that are Narnia-like in their depth thanks to the Internet.

What they are up to God only knows.
