Asian casinos to add 25% more electronic table game seats in next three years

The number of electronic table game (ETG) seats in Asian casino markets is expected to grow by more than one-quarter over the next three years, according to a new report.

Union Gaming Securities Asia has been tracking the rise of ETG for the past five years, and its most recent report expects the current installed base of roughly 12k ETG seats will grow by nearly 3,100 over the next three years, with the potential for a further 2,500 seats in the years post-2018.

Demand for these new ETG seats will be driven in part by the four new integrated resorts scheduled to open in Macau by the end of 2017. The Macau market is expected to account for 1,800 of the new ETG seats, with most of the rest going to new casinos in Manila and South Korea, while Cambodia, Saipan and Russia’s Primorye gaming zone will soak up the excess.

Union Gaming says Hong Kong-listed gaming device maker Paradise Entertainment Ltd and its LT Game subsidiary would likely account for 37% of the new ETG seats, with a potential $23m revenue upside for the company.

Daniel Negreanu sets Twitter alight after suggesting it’s easier to make money in poker today than it was in pre-Internet times prompting Lee Davy to have a deeper look at the argument.

Is it easier to win money in poker today than it was pre-Internet?

Daniel Negreanu thinks so. Over the weekend, he took a break from tweeting about politics and basketball to air his view that it was ‘so much easier’ to win money playing poker today than before the creation of the Internet.

It was a tweet that saw members of the poker community smashing their mouse into their skulls in despair. Others nodded their heads. Opinions are divided suggesting it’s a story in need of poking and prodding a little further.

Bahamas PM announces deal to restart stalled $3.5b Baha Mar casino resort

A deal has been struck that could lead to the completion of the stalled $3.5b Baha Mar casino resort in the Bahamas.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Perry Christie delivered his 2016-17 budget to parliament, during which he announced that a “framework agreement” had been reached between Export Import Bank of China (EXIM), the unfinished property’s largest creditor, and China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), the parent of the project’s main contractor.

Christie said the agreement provided “a pathway forward” for Baha Mar’s completion by establishing a framework for “putting in place the financing required for completion of the project” and for CSCEC subsidiary China Construction America (CCA) to “remobilize and restart construction to finish the project as expeditiously as possible.”

The Bahamas Tribune reported that talks were now underway between CCA and the resort’s court-appointed receivers on the precise terms that would allow construction to recommence and to establish a firm timeline for the completion of work.

OpenBet re-ups with Loto-Quebec as the NYX/Amaya takeover of Canada continues

Online sports betting technology provider OpenBet has re-upped with Canadian provincial gaming monopoly Loto-Quebec as the province prepares to alter its online gambling landscape.

On Wednesday, OpenBet announced that it had inked a three-year extension to its current supplier deal with Loto-Quebec. In addition to kicking their adieu date further down the road, OpenBet is providing Loto-Quebec’s online site EspaceJeux with its new mobile portal solution, which launched at the end of 2015.

OpenBet has powered EspaceJeux since its 2010 launch and has ties with other provincial lottery monopolies, including the British Columbia Lottery Corporation, whose OpenBet-powered PlayNow.com also launched in 2010. OpenBet and BCLC recently expanded their relationship via the launch of Sports Pools on PlayNow.

OpenBet says its new Quebec deal reflects Loto-Quebec’s convergence strategy and is “designed to support the planned changes to regulation within the province, that are currently in the process of being passed by the authorities.”
