Is Marcus Rashford Heading to Euro 2016?

England manager, Roy Hodgson, has sprung a surprise by naming Manchester United’s 18-year old forward, Marcus Rashford, in his 26-man provisional squad for the European Championships in France this summer.

Roy Hodgson has pulled a very young rabbit out his Euro 2016 hat. Let’s hope he doesn’t get dazzled by the headlights.

The England manager has decided that Manchester United’s 18-year old forward, Marcus Rashford, has done enough with his seven goals in 16 appearances to warrant an inclusion in a provisional squad of 26 players.

Rashford burst onto the scene in the latter half of the season after key injuries to Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney left United woefully short of firepower. The young lad from Wythenshaw repaid Louis Van Gaal’s faith in him by scoring two goals on his debut in a 5-1 Europa League victory over Midtyjlland making him the youngest United player to ever score in Europe. His partnership with Jesse Lingard and Martial has been one of United’s slim highlights this season.

Amaya Gaming’s casino and sports verticals take bigger bite out of poker

Canadian online gambling operator Amaya Gaming says it remains focused on developing its new verticals despite the intense media spotlight resulting from its absent CEO’s legal problems.

On Monday, Amaya released its results for the three months ending March 31, during which revenue rose 6% to $288.7m, adjusted earnings rose 8.7% to $123.4m and net earnings from continuing operations more than doubled to $55.5m.

It should be noted that this is the first report in which Amaya reported numbers in US dollars, and all comparative figures have been adjusted accordingly.

Amaya’s flagship PokerStars brand continued to set the pace, as poker accounted for 75% of real-money online revenue, while casino and the new BetStars sports betting product claimed a combined 21% share. Notably, that split was 89/6 in the same quarter one year ago.

Premier League Review: Bomb Scare at Old Trafford Spoils Last Day of The Season

In the final weekend of Premier League action we see a bomb scare result in the postponement of Man Utd v Bournemouth; Arsenal pipping Spurs to the runner-up spot, and Southampton beating West Ham to the Europa League.

Leicester City had won the Premier League with two games to spare. In midweek, Sunderland had sent Newcastle and Norwich to the Championship along with Aston Villa.

The most remarkable Premier League campaign in history was ending with a little puff of dust.

The only stories that required an ending were the Europa League race between Southampton and West Ham, the fight for second place between Arsenal and Spurs, and the fireworks for the fourth Champions League spot between Man Utd and arch rivals Man City.

Michigan Online Poker Bill Sponsor Accused of Amaya Lobbying Conflict of Interest

A Michigan online poker bill suffered a potential credibility blow this week, as its lead sponsor, State Senator Mike Kowall (R-15th), was forced to defend himself from conflict of interest accusations. Kowall denied that there were any improprieties arising from the fact that his wife Eileen works for the firm hired by PokerStars parent Amaya […]

FanDuel auditors express “significant doubt” over company’s future

Auditors of daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel have expressed “significant doubt” about the company’s future if more US states determine it is an illegal gambling operator.

The Edinburgh-based FanDuel recently released its annual report, which showed the company enjoyed record revenue of $87.7m in the 18 months ending June 30, 2015. However, pre-tax losses came to $94.9m, compared to a loss of only $11.3m in its previous report.

FanDuel blamed the escalating losses on its decision to “significantly” boost its marketing and product development, while insisting that the company’s financial reserves – which fell from $274m to $47.8m as of June 30 – are sufficient to see it through the coming year.

FanDuel defended its spending by noting that its paid active player base had quintupled to 1.25m by June 30, and said the investments it had made would “drive the future success and growth of the group with due consideration of the ongoing litigation issues.”

Polish deputy Prime Minister proposes legalizing online poker, home games

Poland may legalize online poker if the country’s deputy prime minister has his way.

On Sunday, Jarosław Gowin (pictured), Poland’s deputy PM and Minister of Science and Higher Education, held a press conference to offer details on how his Poland Together party would like to amend the country’s 2009 Gambling Act.

The ruling Law and Justice party has yet to deliver its overdue draft of a new gambling bill and Gowin stressed that his proposals were his own, not the government’s. However, Gowin expressed hope that his plans would gain broad support in the Polish parliament.

Gowin is proposing that the current 12% tax on sports betting turnover be replaced by a 20% tax on betting revenue, and 10% of the government’s tax take should be shared with the Polish Olympic Committee and problem gambling initiatives.
