Michigan Online Poker Bill Likely to Pass in 2016, Says Senator’s Office

Michigan’s online poker bill (SB 889) is expected to pass this year, at least according to the office of its sponsor, State Senator Mike Kowall (R-White Lake). Dave Biswas, Kowall’s chief of staff and legislative director, told CardPlayer this week that he “saw no reason” why the bill would not go through in 2016. State-by-state […]

India launches first ‘online’ sports betting shop; online lotteries earn court’s ire

India launched its first ‘online’ sports betting operation this week, but don’t go looking for it using your browser.

Thursday saw the launch of the first sports betting and gaming arena in Gangtok, the capital of the state of Sikkim. The new ‘gaming zone’ is operated by Golden Gaming International (formerly Maarm International), which began offering ‘online’ keno and virtual horseracing services at multiple locations in the state last December.

The new Gangtok venue has expanded Golden Gaming’s betting palette to include cricket, tennis and football wagers, as well as non-sports games like roulette and the popular Indian card game teen patti.

The ‘online’ description being thrown around by most media outlets is a tad misleading, as what’s on offer is simply the opportunity for punters to pop into a shop and place a wager via an ‘intranet gaming terminal.’

Caesars reportedly mulling $4b offers for Caesars Interactive Entertainment

Struggling casino operator Caesars Entertainment is considering a sale of its interactive unit, one of the few branches of the Caesars family tree that actually makes money.

On Friday, reports surfaced that Caesars had received multiple, unsolicited offers to acquire Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE), which includes an extremely lucrative social gaming division, a less successful real-money online gambling operation and the World Series of Poker brand.

The bids reportedly value CIE at over $4b and Wall Street Journal sources said Caesars had enlisted investment bank Raine Group to help evaluate the offers, while stressing the usual caveats that no formal sale process was ongoing and thus there was no guarantee that a deal would happen.

There’s no question that CIE would be an attractive acquisition target, given its demonstrated capacity to monetize social casino players at a much higher rate than its competitors. But there’s the teensy problem that CIE is jointly owned by Caesars and another Caesars-controlled entity, Caesars Acquisition Co (CACQ), and the latter company’s very existence is the subject of multiple lawsuits.
