Pennsylvania House resuscitates online gambling, daily fantasy sports package

As some wise man once said, it ain’t over till it’s over.

Less than an hour after Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives voted against omnibus legislation that included online gambling and daily fantasy sports, they voted in favor of standalone legislation authorizing both activities.

On Wednesday afternoon, the House defeated the 183-page Amendment A08621 to Rep. George Dunbar’s HB 2150 DFS bill, largely over its language authorizing video gaming terminals (VGT) in around 13k bars, clubs and other liquor licensees across the state, a plan that was fiercely opposed by the state’s casino operators, the state lottery and family values types.

Both Republican and Democratic parties huddled their members immediately following the vote, leading to Rep. Rosita Youngblood’s introduction of Amendment A08734, the text of which has yet to surface but reportedly bundles Dunbar’s DFS bill and Rep. John Payne’s HB 649 online gambling bill into a standalone measure.

US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) had something to confess this week: “In politics, admitting you’ve changed your mind is not something most people like to do. But here it goes.” He wasn’t referring to his longstanding views on Internet gambling with this turnaround, unfortunately. Nope, the failed GOP presidential candidate instead has decided to seek […]

VGT issue derails Pennsylvania online gambling, daily fantasy legislation (again)

Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives has rejected the latest plan to regulate online gambling and daily fantasy sports.

Wednesday’s vote – 79 in favor, 116 opposed – was over Amendment A08621 to HB 2150, the daily fantasy sports legislation introduced earlier this month by Rep. George Dunbar.

The 183-page amendment to HB 2150 was an omnibus of virtually every piece of gaming legislation in the House’s current session, including DFS, Rep. John Payne’s online gambling bill, slot machines in off-track betting sites, slots and tablet gaming in airports and letting the state approve sports betting if the US Congress repeals the federal ban.

But the most contentious component was allowing the state’s roughly 13k liquor licensees (taverns, bars, clubs, VFW halls, etc.) to install up to five video gaming terminals (VGTs) apiece. Of all the speechifying that transpired on the House floor on Wednesday, VGTs were the dominant subject, with the majority of speakers expressing sharp opposition to VGT approval.

CaesarsCasino re-launch on NYX platform; GAN spanked over NJ geolocation fail

Online gambling technology provider NYX Gaming Group has struck a deal that deepens its ties to Caesars Interactive Entertainment (CIE) in New Jersey’s regulated online gambling market.

Last September, the Toronto-listed NYX struck a game supply deal with CIE’s CaesarsCasino.com New Jersey-facing brand. On Monday, NYX announced that CaesarsCasino.com would be re-launching on NYX’s Open Platform System.

NYX says the new deal includes options to further strengthen the links between itself and CIE, both in New Jersey and other states that may eventually join New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware in authorizing online gambling within their borders.

Kevin Vonasek, NYX’s chief product officer Americas, called the deal “an immense opportunity” for his company and was testimony to the “exceptional working relationship we’ve enjoyed with CIE to date.”
