France Pari expands into Spain with Suertia Interactiva acquisition

French sports betting operator France Pari has expanded into the Spanish market by acquiring local gambling operator Suertia.

On Monday, France Pari confirmed it had acquired 100% of Suertia for an undisclosed fee. Suertia, which was founded in 2011, has undergone 100% annual growth in each of the past two years and is poised to post its first profits this year, according to its new French owner.

France Pari CEO Hervé Schlosser issued a statement saying the acquisition fit with their international expansion strategy, which has seen the company establish toeholds in Belgium and Malta.

France Pari reported overall revenue of €20m in 2015, up from €18m in 2014, driven by an 80% rise in business at its SportnCo B2B division. France Pari said it believes the Suertia addition will allow it to boost B2B and B2C revenue to over €100m in 2017.

SportPesa inks Hull City FC shirt deal ahead of UK betting site launch

African online sports betting operator SportPesa has inked its first English Premier League shirt deal with Hull City FC.

On Monday, Hull City announced that it had entered into a “multi-million pound deal” that will see SportPesa’s name and logo adorning the team’s home, away and third shirts over the next three EPL seasons. The deal means that gambling operators now have visibility on fully half the EPL’s 20 teams’ shirts.

Specific terms weren’t disclosed, but Tigers commercial manager Simon King called it “by far the largest” deal in the club’s 112-year history. It’s the second EPL deal for SportPesa, having signed on as the Kenyan betting partner of Arsenal FC this February.

SportPesa says its latest deal includes a promise that Hull City will travel to Kenya to play against a local team – the first time any EPL club has made the trip to Kenya. SportPesa is the title sponsor of Kenya’s Premier League, as well as league sides Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, and the company also signed on as sponsor of the Kenyan Rugby Union last week.

Survey pokes holes in theory that low-income Americans are lottery junkies

As Wednesday’s PowerBall jackpot tops $400m, a new Gallup poll is poking holes in the widely held theory that poorer, less educated Americans are more likely to buy lottery tickets.

A telephone survey of 1,025 US adults in the month of June showed 49% of participants bought a state lottery ticket in the past 12 months. The figure is up from a historic low of 46% in 2007 but well off the 57% peak of the mid- to late-1990s, despite seven more states launching lotteries since that period.

Around 40% of participants who earned less than $36k per year had played the lottery in the past year, compared to 56% of those making between $36k and $90k, and 53% of those making over $90k.

The numbers were slightly more balanced in terms of education level, with 47% of those holding a high school diploma or less playing the lottery, compared to 53% of those holding a technical or college degree, while post-graduates scored lowest at 45%.
