The Laurel Park summer meet training title ended up in a tie between Tim Keefe and Hamilton Smith, but jockey Jevian Toledo easily captured the riding title.

China cracks down on ‘dirty money’: Is it time for bitcoin?
Authorities in Beijing are sweeping up all the “dirty cash” around the country.
Last week, Chinese police arrested 450 people who they believe have been illegally transferring money out of the country. According to state news outlets, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the People’s Bank of China and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange discovered a total of 192 locations where illegal banking services involving an estimated US$30 billion were provided.
Analysts at Goldman Sachs estimate that up to US$28 billion exited China last December, according to a Bloomberg report.
MPS officials said underground banks in the country have become channels for transferring money that been obtained through illegal activities, such as public funds embezzled by corrupted officials. The crackdown focused on “cross-regional and cross-border underground banks,” the ministry said.

Monday, 22 August 2016, Budapest – The organizers are pleased to announce that the Early Bird Ticket offer has ended on the 19th of August. However, because of the feedback we have received from many of the companies that were caught off guard during the holiday season and because it would makes us more happy if you spend the difference between the discounted and regular price and enjoy your time in Budapest, we have decided to modify the Regular price ticket and adjust it to the same price as the Early Bird ticket.
Since we have set an aim to organize a never seen before event, this offer is unprecedented and we are writing history in the igaming events industry.
This means that you can register at the cost of 200 EUR until the limit of allocated tickets is reached. You must hurry though, there aren’t that many left. We shall keep you posted if we run out of tickets and it would be a terrible shame if you would not make it to our grandiose event.

Senate powerbroker dangles carrot to entice Aussie networks away from gambling ads
Australia’s habitual gambling scold Nick Xenophon is stepping up his efforts to curb gambling advertising on television.
Several weeks ago, the Alliance for Gambling Reform proposed to give commercial television broadcasters a discount on their license fees—a dollar for every dollar that they did not take from a sports betting company. The plan potentially gives a broadcaster over $100 million in license fee discounts annually.
Now, Xenophon is reportedly seeking to hold talks with the Turnbull government and at least three major broadcasters to propose the said offset, according to The Australian. The Senate powerbroker wants to meet with Communications Minister Mitch Fifield as well as Seven, Nine, and Ten networks “in the first sitting week of parliament on August 30.”
“I don’t think the networks should be out of pocket,” Xenophon told the news outlet. “They shouldn’t be bearing the brunt of this when it’s the government that has allowed it to proliferate.”
$9.93M losses sends SenieMac to the brink of closure
Beleaguered Irish betting operator SeanieMac is seeking financial life support after the company bled an accumulated to almost $9.93 million worth of losses.
The Independent reported that SeanieMac, which was founded by Donegal hotelier and former GAA player Brian McEniff’s son Sean McEniff, sent an SOS from outside investors as it warned that it may cease operating if it can’t raise any additional funds.
SeanieMac said it needs $500,000 (€441,000) to pay for operational costs such as its website and marketing expenses.
“If the company is unable to obtain additional funding and improve its operations, the company’s financial operations may be materially adversely affected and the company may not be able to continue operations,” the company warned.

US feds probe Ng Lap Seng’s possible link to mysterious Chinese spy
Remember Ng Lap Seng? The Macau billionaire who has been charged with bribing a UN diplomat is now being linked to another businessman believed to be operating as an intelligence agent for China.
Ng is currently standing trial in New York on allegations that he bribed the now-deceased former General Assembly president, John Ashe, in bribes to advance his interest in the UN. The Chinese billionaire has been pushing for the sponsorship of a UN conference center in Macau, which would have served as his legacy.
Last September, when Ng was confined to his New York apartment following his arrest, he was interviewed by FBI agents who sought to clarify his relationship with a suspected Chinese agent, a man named Qin Fei.
Qin was traveling with Ng when the latter was arrested, but was able to return to China, according to The Wall Street Journal.

New York lawmaker mulls challenging federal sports betting ban
Not contented with just regulating fantasy sports, a state assemblyman wants to take things further and has expressed interest in passing a law that would legalize sports betting in New York.
Assembly Racing Committee Chairman Gary Pretlow (D-Mount Vernon) said he is considering treading the same path as New Jersey and introduce a legislation that would allow residents in the state to take sports bets, Democrat & Chronicle reported.
A confessed “believer in legalizing sports betting,” Pretlow said his bill’s goal is to “pressure the Congress” into changing the existing sports betting laws.
“I’m considering this year putting in legislation similar to New Jersey’s legislation and hopefully it gets to court in the Second Circuit, and hopefully we get a different opinion,” Pretlow said, according to the report.
Worldpay records 20% Premier League boost in bumper weekend for bookies
London – August 2016 – The Premier League blasted back this weekend with plenty of fixtures to whet fans’ appetites for the 2016-2017 season. Data from Worldpay revealed a mammoth 20% rise in the number of bets placed on opening day compared to last year, with more fans than ever hoping to win big as the world’s most exciting football league returned.*
Following Leicester’s fairy-tale League win last season, bookies actually saw an 8% drop in average bet values compared to 2015’s opening weekend. Recreational customers who traditionally deposit lower amounts were drawn in by the prospect of predicting underdog success.
Punters were staking on average £3.55 less per bet than this time in 2015, revealing the extent to which Leicester’s title win has inspired footie fans to try their luck on even the most unlikely teams.
Karl MacGregor, Vice President Gambling, Global eCommerce, at Worldpay said:
Australia eyes lottery funding for 2020 Tokyo Olympics quest
Australia is learning a thing or two on the importance of lottery from its former colonizers.
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is eyeing to duplicate the UK’s national lottery scheme, which was cited as the key to the successful campaign of British athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Australia sits in the tenth place with eight golds, 11 silver, and 10 bronze medals at the conclusion of summer Olympics on Monday. UK, on the other hand, has rewritten their Olympic history, moving ahead of China into second place in the Rio 2016 medal tally with 27 golds, 23 silver and 17 bronze medals.
Some British newspapers said that part of success of the UK sports program goes back to the battle that former Prime Minister John Major had in 1991 to start the National Lottery. The British Lottery System was set up in 1994, with 50 per cent of returns going back to the prize pool, 28 per cent to “good causes” and 12 per cent to the government.
Struggling Studio City likely to default loan, S&P warns
Credit-debt watcher Standard & Poor (S&P) Global Ratings is sounding alarm bells over the likelihood that Melco Crown Entertainment’s struggling Studio City will default on its loan.
Bloomberg reported that S&P lowered its outlook for Studio City Casino’s 2020 notes to negative, a clear indication of a dwindling confidence that the Macau’ project will be able to pay the US$1.41 billion loan, which was used to complete the construction of the hotel.
The value of the 10.625 percent notes co-issued by New Cotai LLC and New Cotai Capital Corp., units of U.S. hedge funds Silver Point Capital LP and Oaktree Capital Group LLC, had already slid by 42.5 percent even before the ratings agency issued the warning.
Silver Point Capital and Oaktree Capital own a 40 percent stake in Studio City through their funds, with Hong Kong-based Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd. holding the remaining 60 percent.
NFC East Preview
The NFC East was the second worst division in the NFL last season. As a matter of fact, their cumulative record of (26-38) was only 1.0 game better than the AFC South combined mark of 25-39 (.391). The Redskins needed just a 9-7 record to win the 2015-2016 NFC East crown. Furthermore, Washington was the only one of the four teams to compile a winning record. There will be two new head coaches in the NFC East. Former Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was promoted to head coach, and Doug Pederson takes over the reins in Philadelphia. It wouldn’t be going out on a limb to predict this division as be vastly improved, particularly relative to their overall performance a year ago.
Futures Betting Odds to Win NFC East
• Cowboys (+175)
• Giants (+250)
PokerStars, PPA, And Two Influential Tribes Oppose Online Poker Bill in California And The Only People Who Continue to Suffer Are The Players
The likelihood of a bill to legalise online poker in California by the end of the year looks remote after a coalition led by PokerStars, the Poker Players Alliance, and two influential tribes oppose AB.2863 after Adam Gray included a last minute amendment to ban PokerStars for five years.
Once upon a time (before 2006), there was a thriving online poker business in the United States of America. At that point, partypoker was the largest online poker room in the world. Parent company PartyGaming had a market value of over $8 billion.
Then came the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Attached to the SAFE Port Act, this document prohibited gambling enterprises from accepting wagers that involved the Internet. Partypoker took the hint, packed up their suitcase and left the States. PokerStars did not.
More knowledgeable people than me are currently arguing that PokerStars’ decision to offer US citizens an online poker room, when the rest of the online poker rooms had buggered off because of the UIGEA, is the primary reason they now dominate 70% of the global online poker market.
Week 2 EPL Review: Manchester Clubs Thrive
Week 2 of the English Premier League sees both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, and Hull remain the only clubs to take maximum points from their first two games.
The bookmakers got it horribly wrong last season. Leicester took the applecart, ate all the apples, and then turned the cart into a rocking chair. Two games into the 2016/17 English Premier League (EPL) Season and things are back on track.
Pep Guardiola’s 4-1 victory at Stoke’s newly named Bet365 stadium was a slightly exaggerated scoreline, but it was also an emphatic message that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach is settling in very nicely thank you.
It will be a game remembered as the day referee Mike Dean laid down a marker for the rest of the season. Dean loves giving penalties. He has pointed to the spot 16 times since the beginning of last season, and nobody can match that figure. It will rise. Dean was taking a no-nonsense approach to shirt pulling in the penalty area giving two penalties for infringements on both sides.
