Crown, others gets stern warning from China a year before the arrests
Chinese authorities has issued a stern warning to casino operators a year ago to stop marketing to gamblers, but Crown Resorts Ltd. chooses to look the other way.
Bloomberg reported that Chinese authorities have been keeping a close watch on casino operators who have been engaging in attracting high rollers from the mainland to gamble overseas by tweaking their respective marketing strategies.
The police surveillance against Crown was part of a Chinese operation targeting gambling-related activities dubbed as “Duanlian.” The aim was to unshackle personal and financial links of Chinese high rollers from foreign casinos.
A source who spoke to the business news agency on the condition of anonymity revealed that China has given a year for casino operators to comply with their directive.

Russia’s frosty attitude towards cryptocurrency, blockchain may be thawing
In case you need even more evidence that Russia is slowly—but surely—working its way towards accepting cryptocurrency, here’s one: the country is reportedly testing a pilot program based on the blockchain technology.
The Russian government has partnered with the country’s largest bank, Sberbank, and the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) for a project called “Digital Ecosystem for Exchanging Documents,” which uses blockchain—the underlying technology of popular digital currency bitcoin—for storing documents.
“The goal of the project is to study the possibilities of distributed document storage, which may increase the speed, reliability and quality of interaction during document exchange,” FAS said in a statement.
Blockchain, which makes use of cryptography to create a distributed ledger system, allows documents to be transferred anywhere with an internet connection almost instantly, while electronic signatures make them cryptographically unforgeable.

Macau looking over Studio City’s VIP gaming tables bid: report
Casino operator Melco Crown Entertainment is reportedly seeking to put VIP gaming tables at its Studio City property in Macau.
The city state’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) confirmed to GGRAsia that it has received an application from Melco Crown “to open new [VIP] gaming tables in Studio City.” In an email to the news outlet, the gaming regulator said it is “currently analyzing the application.”
Studio City made headlines during its official grand opening last year based on its complete lack of VIP gaming tables. However, the company’s chief operating officer Ted Chan Ying Tat indicated in June that Melco Crown is considering ending its VIP embargo in part because “we internally are not very satisfied with the current condition” of the Studio City property.
DICJ noted that Melco Crown’s application did not specify where the VIP tables will be coming from. But given the government’s cap on the number of live-dealer gaming tables allowed in the market, the report stated there is a possibility that the tables will either come from Studio City’s main floor or from Melco Crown’s other Macau venues. Studio City originally applied for 400 gaming tables, but had received 200 new tables when it opened, while the remaining 50 were scheduled to come in January.

US presidential odds and ends: PaddyPower starts paying punters who bet on Clinton
The Election Day is still three weeks away, but Irish betting site PaddyPower is already sure of Clinton’s victory that it is already paying out $1.1 million to those who bet on the Democratic nominee.
According to PaddyPower, Clinton has an 85.7 percent chance of winning the elections, while Trump’s campaign—for all intents and purposes—is already dead with 18.2 percent chances of victory.
In fact, the betting site confirmed to CNN Money that it has paid some 6,000 British and Irish gamblers who placed their bets on Clinton before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The biggest bet on Clinton was $61,485.
“The recent flood of revelations have halted [Trump’s] momentum and his chances now look as patchy as his tan,” PaddyPower said in a blog post.

Cambodia casino tax take rises one-third
Cambodia’s casino industry contributed one-third more tax over the first nine months of 2016, but it still likely won’t be enough for opposition politicians.
According to a finance ministry report issued on Tuesday, Cambodia had 69 licensed casinos as of September 30. Together, these casinos contributed $37.4m in taxes to the government since January, 35.5% more than in the same period last year. It’s also higher than the $34.7m the government collected in all of 2015.
The report credits the increased tax take to the government’s recent moves to shore up its taxation policies, which include casting a more critical eye on casino operations. The government is still playing coy with its overdue gaming legislation, which is rumored to contain a gambling tax of between 5% and 7%.
NagaCorp’s NagaWorld casino in Phnom Penh is currently required to pay only 2% tax on its gaming revenue, and its tax bill over the first nine months of 2016 totaled $16m, roughly 43% of the total collected. NagaCorp was recently hit with an unexpected demand for an additional $9.4m in taxes on its non-gaming revenue and further demands could be forthcoming.

Successful September For Dover Downs; Statewide Revenues Tumble For Third Consecutive Month
Dover Downs casino recorded higher revenue numbers than Delaware Park for the first time since the powers to be started recording stats in Nov 2013, but the statewide news was not as positive as revenue figures tumbled for a third straight month.
Dover Downs Casino is the king of the Delaware iGaming market, for one month at least.
For the first time since the state started recording online gambling revenue digits in Nov 2013, Dover Downs has performed better than Delaware Park, and they have poker to thank for their marked improvement.
Dover Downs earned $109,005.73 in revenue with $19,466.82 coming from online poker. It was the fourth highest poker haul of all time and highest since Feb 2014.

G.A.M.E Get Innovative With the Introduction of Protection Poker
Gaming Advancement Marketing Entertainment LLC (G.A.M.E) continues to innovate with the introduction of Protection Poker, a form of Texas Hold’em that ensures players with a 65% advantage, when all in, win at least 20% of the pot.
Poker isn’t broke. It doesn’t need fixing. But games are evolving, as is the level of human IQ, and poker needs to keep up with that progress.
One area that has come under scrutiny in recent times is the speed of the game. When it comes down to the thrill factor, there is nothing more laborious than having to wait an eternity for a player to make a decision.
Gaming Advancement Marketing Entertainment LLC (G.A.M.E) has been paying attention. Earlier, in the year, their patented Action Clock was used during the World Poker Tour (WPT) Tournament of Champions and the feedback from the players showed it to be a success.

Daniel Negreanu Outlines His Plan to Save the Poker Hall of Fame
Daniel Negreanu provides his views on Poker Hall of Fame tweaks including separating the non-poker players from the players, improving the criteria, and abolishing the 10 point voting system.
As the mayhem surrounding the Poker Hall of Fame (PHOF) quietens to a hush, at least one prominent member of our little bubble has a few things to say about next year and beyond.
Carlos Mortensen and Todd Brunson are the lucky legends in waiting. As per usual, nobody is batting an eyelid over their inclusion. It’s as rare as an AK47 £5 note to find someone complaining about who got in; all the noise comes from the process that led up to that point.
Does it work?
