Venezuela slaps bitcoin miners with electricity theft charges

Four bitcoin miners in Venezuela got into trouble with authorities who are accusing them of stealing electricity in the city of Charallave.

Federal police arrested three men and one woman on charges of cyber fraud and electricity theft, according to a government website. Douglas Rico, director of the Computer Crime Division of the Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), said the four were operating more than 300 Antminer units and selling the bitcoins “on a commercial website.”

These people’s mining operation, according to Rico, is negatively impacting “the consumption and the stability” of the Charallave’s electricity services.

Just how serious an electricity theft charge is in Venezuela? Apparently, it is a serious allegation given that the country has been experiencing frequent blackouts in recent years. Bitcoin mining uses so much electricity, so it is no surprise that federal authorities are concerned about the impact of the activity on a city like Charallave.

EFL Review: Man United to face Southampton in the final

Man Utd returns to Wembley for the second successive year, and only Southampton stand in their way of English Football League Cup success after victories over Hull and Liverpool respectively.

Manchester United and Southampton will square off in a Wembley showpiece for the first time since 1976 as they brushed aside Hull and Liverpool, respectively, in their two-legged semi-finals.

United is the 10/11 favourite to win their second piece of silverware in consecutive years, but so were they back in 76 when the Second Division side pulled off one of the great FA Cup Final shocks thanks to a Bobby Stokes goal seven minutes from time.

Southampton is a stronger outfit these days, and had the most difficult semi-final tie between the two teams, but made it look the easiest. Claude Puel’s men faced a Liverpool side who are the Premier League top scorers with 51 goals, but they couldn’t find the net once in their two legs.

Event sixteen recap – 2017 Aussie Millions Poker Championship

Melbourne, Australia. Wednesday 26 January 2017. There aren’t a whole lot of Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo tournaments to be played around the globe. Many tournament organizers skip the poker game in favor of more common played games like No-Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha Hi. But at the Aussie Millions, the largest poker festival in the region, the game was offered, and a lot of players seemed to appreciate it being part of the schedule.

A total of 86 entries into the $1,025-buy-in game were registered, making for a prize pool of AUD$64,350. AUD$23,800 of that was allocated for the winner.

While the Australians were out in force for this event, the final table was a bit of an international affair. Besides France and Australia, players seated at the final table came from Austria, Germany, New Caledonia and the United States.

The first place prize would eventually go to Corentin Hillion from France. It’s the first recorded cash for the Frenchman, a nice feat to have a win as first result.
