SunCity Group restructuring Philippine online gambling ops?

Leading casino junket operator SunCity Group appears to be restructuring its Philippine online gambling operations in response to the country’s regulatory changes.

SunCity celebrated its 10th anniversary last week, and CEO Alvin Chau Cheok Wa issued a statement saying SunCity’s roots began in Macau but the company was “determined” to develop its global business. The group now operates 26 VIP rooms at casinos in Macau, Seoul, Melbourne and Manila.

SunCity also has a firm footing in online gambling via its Isle of Man-licensed Xela Holdings Ltd subsidiary and its 138.com brand, which has a large customer base in Asian markets and with Chinese-speaking gamblers in western countries.

But sources have told CalvinAyre.com that SunCity was laying off a sizable portion of its Manila-based online gambling staff. The sources also claimed SunCity planned to shift some online staff to its London office while the management team would be based on the Isle of Man, leaving only a skeleton crew behind in Manila.

Court of Appeal upholds dismissal in Kennedy vs. Ferguson ‘bot’ case

A Court of Appeal judge has upheld the dismissal of the 2009 Kennedy vs. Ferguson ‘bot’ case where plaintiffs accused Full Tilt Poker of using bots to cheat amongst a hoard of other complaints.

The Court of Appeal of the State of California has dismissed an attempt at an appeal in the Kennedy vs. Ferguson case that first sprung up out of the rusty old pipes of the Full Tilt network back in 2009.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Virginia Keeny backed her counterpart, Elizabeth White’s decision, to throw the case out of court stating:

The appeal is dismissed as to the subsequent orders denying the motion to disqualify counsel, the motion for a new trial, and the motion to tax costs or strike the memorandum of costs.

Week 26 EPL review: King Kane; Silky Cesc, and Bournemouth the brick

Week 26 of the English Premier League sees Harry Kane scoring his third hat-trick of the season in a 4-0 win over Stoke, Cesc Fabregas putting in a fine performance in a 3-1 win over Swansea, and Bournemouth continues to act like a brick, losing against West Brom.

Chelsea took advantage of a barren weekend of Premier League fixtures by moving 10-points clear at the top thanks to a classy performance at home to Swansea City.

It was not a happy return to Stamford Bridge for Paul Clement and Claude Makelele, but something tells me the Swansea backroom staff didn’t have this one down as an away win.

Chelsea was on fire, and Cesc Fabregas was holding the Molotov Cocktail. The Spaniard was making his 300th appearance for the club and should have celebrated with the prize of the match ball.

American Poker Awards snub Sexton; Hall settles for ‘consolation prize.’

The 3rd Annual American Poker Awards are in the bag: record nominee Mike Sexton misses out, Jason Mercier earns a double, and Cate Hall picks up her ‘consolation prize.’

The last time I wrote about the American Poker Awards (APA), I was all excited about Poker Hall of Fame incumbent Mike Sexton receiving a nomination for an unprecedented three awards.

He didn’t win a single one.

Sentimentality wasn’t a core tenet for members of the jury. Unlike the 70+ people who believed his victory at WPT Montreal was worthy of two nominations. Personally, I’m a sucker for sentimentality, and believe it’s a travesty that Sexton didn’t pick up the award for either Tournament Performance or Poker Moment.

3: Barrels: WPT to honour First Lady; WPT Beijing; Elias wins 3rd title

3: Barrels of a World Poker Tour flavour including an award for Linda Johnson; a new beginning in Beijing, and Darren Elias wins his third title in Fallsview.

Three stories with the World Poker Tour (WPT) acting as the baby spittle holding them all together and we begin with a new concept: The WPT Honors Award.

WPT Prez Adam Pliska will announce award winners on a need to award basis, and the first recipient is the First Lady of Poker, Linda Johnson.

Imperial Pacific seeks to delay permanent casino launch

Casino operator Imperial Pacific International (IPI) is seeking more time to finish its permanent Saipan casino as well as an extension on how long it can operate its temporary gaming venue in a local shopping mall.

Last week, IPI chairman Mark Brown sent a letter to Saipan’s governor seeking to amend the company’s casino license agreement with the government, which requires IPI to finish work on and open its Imperial Pacific Resort Hotel Saipan by August 11, 2017. IPI’s temporary casino Best Sunshine Live operates out of the T-Galleria high-end shopping mall.

IPI claims that 2015’s Typhoon Soudelor caused extensive delays at its permanent casino site, as did shortages of cement and “readily available skilled laborers.” IPI now seeks to extend the August deadline for opening the new venue to February 11, 2018.

IPI is also seeking to extend the deadline for commencing operations on the project’s Phase One – which includes the casino’s adjoining hotel – from February 11, 2018 to May 1, 2023, and pushing back Phase Two’s deadline from August 11, 2022 to May 1, 2030.
