‘Full capacity’ City of Dreams Manila looking for new land

The group behind City of Dreams Manila, is exploring the possibility of an expansion for its 6.2-hectare casino resort, which is already operating at “full capacity.”

Belle Corporation Vice Chairman Willy Ocier told Manila-based reporters that they are planning to invest in a land “within that area or anywhere else outside Metro Manila.” The initial plan is to develop Belle’s existing 8,500 square meter property near the casino resort, but the executive said they are still “planning with Melco,” the operator of City of Dreams Manila.

“We are looking for neighboring site or land continuous with COD. We are open also [to a] joint venture partnership,” Ocier said, according to Rappler.

The $1.13-billion City of Dreams Manila is currently operating at “full capacity,” more than two years after it opened its doors to the public in December 2014. The integrated resort booked a net revenue of $491.2 million last year, up from the $300.4 million in 2015. CoD’s VIP gaming volume also grew by 110.1 percent to $6.83 billion, while the mass market segment was up 24.7 percent to $550.5 million in volume.

Live Player Games removes the middleman with new Ethereum poker app

Live Player Games, a software development team from Israel, has launched the first Android-based poker app that uses cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Donald Trump is going to send a man to Mars during his presidency. Elon Musk plans to send an Ark full of people to Mars in the next six years. And all of this interplanetary travel makes sense, if, as I read, scientists are on the verge of solving the human ageing issue by sending nanobots into our cells and arteries to deal with the things that eventually lead to our demise.

And yet with all of this happening, people still sit down in a casino, hand over paper fiat money, receive plastic chips, and play poker, a game that has been around since the early 19th Century.

Things will have to change, right?

Pats owner’s casino ties expose NFL’s gambling hypocrisy

The National Football League’s disinterest in New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s stake in casino operator Caesars Entertainment is heaping fresh scorn on the league’s oft-criticized anti-gambling stance.

On Monday, sportswriter Bart Hubbuch published a lengthy article on Deadspin detailing his failed efforts to publish a story in the New York Post regarding Kraft’s (pictured right) involvement with Apollo Global Management, one of two hedge funds that purchased Caesars in 2008 before surrendering majority control last year via the casino company’s bankruptcy restructuring.

Hubbuch says his planned Post article detailing Kraft’s stake in Apollo, which also claims to hold “significant” investments in UK bookmakers Ladbrokes and US slot machine maker American Gaming Systems, was spiked on the orders of Post owner Rupert Murdoch – a close friend of Kraft’s – just half an hour after Hubbuch queried Patriots PR staff regarding Kraft’s gambling holdings.

The gist of Hubbuch’s planned article was NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s (pictured left) disinterest in the major gambling holdings of one of the league’s more prominent owners. The issue has taken on extra significance given Goodell’s recent comments that the league had no intention of letting Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson own a piece of the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders due to Adelson’s casino ownership.

Partypoker change the live tournament landscape with MILLIONS concept

Partypoker has changed the live tournament landscape and moved right on par with PokerStars as one of the greatest practitioners of live tournament organisation in the world after a highly successful MILLIONS event in Dusk till Dawn.

Forget what you know about the coordination and operation of running a live poker tournament. Partypoker and the team at Dusk till Dawn (DTD) have rewritten the rules. They have changed everything.

When I first heard that Rob Yong and co had decided to host a £6m guaranteed event with £1m for the winner, I thought the DTD owner had gone a bit, Mel Gibson.

“Were we going to have another ISPT on our hands?” I thought.

Chelsea and Spurs shine at PFA Awards ceremony

Players from Chelsea and Spurs picked up the most coveted awards during a swanky night out in London for the Players Football Association Awards ceremony.

Anyone who has played football at any level knows the most prestigious personal award to collect is the one voted for by your fellow peers, and last night, the Players Football Association (PFA) voted N’Golo Kante as their Player of the Year.

The Chelsea and France midfield sensation is on course to be the first player to win back-to-back Premier League titles with two different clubs. Kante won the title with Leicester City in his only season at the club following his £5.6m arrival from Caen last season.

The Frenchman was the only high-profile player to leave the champions in the summer when he joined Chelsea for a reported £32m. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Leicester ended up scrapping for their lives at the wrong end of the table, while Chelsea emerged from the mid-tables blues to become the favourites to win this year’s honours.

Wayne Bridge opens up about Brighton card school in PokerStars interview

Former Chelsea and Man City fullback, Wayne Bridge, opens up about his experiences playing poker with the lads at Brighton & Hove Albion, who he would invite to his celebrity poker game, and much more.

Did you know that Wayne Bridge likes a bit of poker?

The former Chelsea, Man City, and England fullback featured in the recent BetStars The Big Call social media campaign, providing his predictions ahead of the Chelsea v Man City Premier League clash – correctly predicting the 2-1 win for Chelsea.

And while the former star of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here was getting down to BetStars business, bigger brother PokerStars sat him down to ask a few questions about his experiences playing poker, and they were quite illuminating.

Malta plans national betting exchange for operators to hedge

Malta’s gambling regulators are planning big changes to maintain the country’s role as a desirable hub for online gambling operators, including a national sports betting exchange to allow operators to hedge their bets.

Last Thursday, Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) chairman Joseph Cuschieri delivered a speech to attendees at a conference organized by Malta’s financial affairs parliamentary committee at which he revealed the MGA’s plans to leverage Malta’s remote gaming advantage.

Cuschieri started by underscoring the importance of Malta’s gaming industry to the overall economy. Gaming contributed €56.3m in direct taxes to the government’s 2016 budget, while gaming-related activity brought the total contribution to around €120m. Around 3k Maltese nationals currently earn their livelihood via the local gaming industry.

But Cuschieri warned that the MGA needed to be proactive “to avert the threats and reap opportunities at a global level.” The MGA has therefore developed a strategy to “future proof” the industry based around three main tenets.

Parisian Macao battling Legionnaires’ Disease outbreak

Las Vegas Sands’ newest Macau casino is grappling with a potentially dangerous outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease.

Late Saturday night, Macau’s Health Bureau issued a notice saying it was investigating three cases in which Hong Kong residents reportedly contracted the potentially fatal variety of pneumonia after visits to the Parisian Macao in December 2016, January 2017 and March 2017.

The three men, whose ages range from 66 to 84 years old, were diagnosed in hospital in Hong Kong. One has since been discharged, while one man is in serious condition and the other is listed as critical.

The disease is primarily spread through inhaling warm water mist containing the bacteria. As a precautionary measure, Macau’s Health Bureau has ordered Sands China to shut the Parisian’s swimming pool, jacuzzi and fountain, while ensuring the operators conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the property’s tap water system.
