Pacific Consortium revives bid to spoil Tatts’ merger with Tabcorp

Tatts Group’s plan to form an Australian betting behemoth with rival operator Tabcorp Holdings is being challenged yet again.

This time, the Pacific Consortium—a group backed by U.S. private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR)—has returned to present a multi-billion-dollar spoiler to the planned merger between the two Australian gambling operators.

Australian Securities Exchange-listed Tatts confirmed on Wednesday that it had received a A$7.2 billion (US$5.4 billion) takeover bid from the consortium, consisting of KKR & Co, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Group, and First State Investments.

The new proposal offers A$4.21 (US$3.17) per Tatts share and may include a A$0.25 per share special dividend, which will be paid immediately prior to any deal being implemented. The consortium’s offer is all-cash, which does not require regulatory approvals.

Champions League review: Juve beat Barca; Explosions hit Dortmund bus

What should have been a night of superlative football turned out to be another tragic news story as the game between Borussia Dortmund and Monaco was postponed after a series of explosions struck the Dortmund bus as it left their hotel. In the other game, Juventus destroyed Barcelona in Turin.

Officials had to postpone the Champions League quarter-final tie between Borussia Dortmund and Monaco after three separate explosions rocked the team coach as it pulled out of a hotel en route to the Westfalenstadion in the build-up to the game.

Dortmund’s Spanish centre-half Marc Bartra was the only player injured in the attack. Barta sustained a fractured arm and shrapnel damage. The former Barcelona star will have to face the surgeon’s knife and will miss the rescheduled game that takes place Wednesday night.

The local police have confirmed that a letter was found at the scene claiming responsibility for the attack but have not named those responsible. Reports claim that experts found at least one other explosive device near the hotel.

BetStars turn to former Leicester legend to star in latest Big Call ad

PokerStars sports betting brother BetStars has turned to a former Leicester City legend to select a few hot tips in the Leicester v Atletico Madrid Champions League tie in their new Big Call ad campaign.

Leicester City square up to Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League. In another lifetime you would say that this was fairytale stuff, but the English Premier League Champions are more Hans Christian Andersen than Hans Christian Andersen.

One organisation with a keen eye on the match is BetStars. PokerStars younger brother inked a deal to be the sports betting partner of choice for the Champions during the defence of their title and had created several marketing campaigns featuring the likes of Christian Fuchs, Riyad Mahrez, and Marc Albrighton.

BetStars’ latest marketing campaign is The Big Call where they draft in sportsmen and women from past and present to give their predictions on a variety of top sporting events under the #CallIt hashtag.

NBA Playoff Betting Preview: Warriors, Cavaliers lead way on odds

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers are both going for their third straight conference titles this year in the West and East, respectively. And each of them are heavy favorites to make it to the NBA Finals again.

But the Warriors have a tougher path this season, and the Cavaliers do not have the top seed, making it a bigger challenge for them to advance compared to the previous two years.

That being said, Cleveland (51-31) is still a stronger favorite to advance from the East at -275 despite being the No. 2 seed in the conference while Golden State (67-15) is -250 to win the West as the top seed.

Chinese authorities admonish Paulinho over betting ad with Japanese porn star

Scoring hat tricks has not helped Brazilian star Paulinho from getting an earful from Chinese football authorities after photos of him promoting a betting company with a Japanese porn star surfaced in the internet.

Last week, CalvinAyre.com reported that the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been left red-faced over his involvement in a gambling advertisement. The promotional photos showed Paulinho wearing a T-shirt bearing the logo of LeTou with Tsukasa Aoi, one of the biggest adult movie stars in Asia.

Sources familiar with the matter told CalvinAyre.com that the 28-year-old football player agreed to endorse LeTou, a betting company based in Southeast Asia that targets punters in China.

Gambling and pornography are banned in China, where Paulinho now plays for the Chinese Super League Club Guangzhou Evergrande. And Paulinho’s involvement in the LeTou advertisement was, of course, enough to raise the Chinese football authorities’ hackles.

EPL week 33 review: Game on as Spurs close the gap to four points

Week 33 of the English Premier League sees Spurs closing the gap to four points, with six games to go, after destroying Bournemouth at home while Chelsea lost to Man Utd at Old Trafford.

Spurs closed the gap to just four points after annihilating Bournemouth 4-0 at White Hart Lane. It was Spurs 12th home league win on the spin, and 15 in all competitions. The place is a relative fortress.

Bournemouth didn’t half make it easy though. Eddie Howe’s side has not won a Premier League game away from home this side of the New Year festivities, and he must be concerned about the way his team have lacked desire once safe, particularly since they finished last season in the same way.

Harry Kane returned to the starting lineup for the first time since injuring his ankle. It was a solid comeback scoring one and assisting for Son Heung-Min to score his 19th goal of the season. Kane’s delightful turn and finish was his 13th goal in 13 games and 20 goals in the Premier League. He is only the third player behind Alan Shearer, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Thierry Henry to score 20+ league goals three seasons on the tamp. Moussa Dembele and Vincent Janssen were also on the scoresheet.

EPL week 33 review: Arsenal beat Boro at the Riverside

Week 33 of the English Premier League concludes with a round-up of all the action from Teeside as second from bottom Middlesbrough entertained Arsenal.

Arsenal kept their faint hopes of Champions League qualification alive beating Middlesbrough by two goals to one at the Riverside Stadium. The Gunners moved within seven points of Manchester City with a game in hand, giving Arsene Wenger hope that he can maintain his record of qualifying in each season he has been at the helm.

Whoever organised the Premier League fixture list had a sick sense of humour when they decided this turkey would end the Easter weekend. Boro came into the tie with the unenviable record of being the only side in the English League system not to register a victory in 2017. They are also the league’s lowest scorers at home with 12.

Fortunately for Boro, Arsenal came into this match with as much confidence as a 14-year old boy with spots standing at the side of the dancefloor at a school disco having gained seven points in their previous eight games, losing their last four away.

NHL playoff betting: Tight lines for Tuesday’s three matchups

The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to make quick work of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The Penguins are listed near a pick’em to eliminate the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, as they hope to complete a four-game sweep of their first-round series in Columbus.

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

Pittsburgh’s 5-4 overtime victory in Game 3 on Sunday saw rookie Jake Guentzel tally a hat trick, including the game-winning goal at the 13:10 mark of the extra session. The Pens trailed 3-1 after the first period, but goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was solid after that rough start to outplay counterpart Sergei Bobrovsky for the third straight time. The Blue Jackets have now lost seven of the past nine meetings with Pittsburgh.

The other two NHL playoff matchups continuing on Tuesday will also see the road teams attempt to take commanding 3-1 series leads back home for Game 5. Both also have similar NHL betting lines near a pick’em, with the Montreal Canadiens visiting the New York Rangers in the early game and the defending Western Conference champion San Jose Sharks hosting the upstart Edmonton Oilers in the late game.

Seagulls fly into EPL with a poker playing lizard at the helm

High Stakes poker player, Tony Bloom, joins the upper echelons of the English Football League system after achieving promotion to the Premier League with his beloved Brighton.

You expect to see Tony Bloom in the partypoker Premier League.

But the English Premier League (EPL)?

The world’s richest football league with combined income surpassing £3 billion, and an average 25 million eyeballs watching each match, is soon to be the newest home of The Lizard.
