OEG’s Polish exit hits profits; Casinos Poland’s Warsaw move

Eastern European casino operator Olympic Entertainment Group (OEG) reported flat profits in Q1 following the closure of its Polish operations, just as a rival operator moves into OEG’s former Warsaw digs.

OEG’s gaming operations generated revenue of €51.5m in the three months ending March 31, 5.3% higher than the same period last year, while earnings rose 9.6% to €9.8m and profits were flat at €5.6m.

OEG enjoyed revenue gains across all its markets, with Latvia’s 54 gaming venues rising 3.2% to €16.5m, while Estonia’s 24 venues shot up 30% to €12.4m. Italy ranked third on the revenue chart with €7.9m, followed by Lithuania (€7m), Slovakia (€4.5m) and Malta (€3.1m).

OEG recently closed its operations in Belarus and Poland, and while Belarus was a non-entity in OEG’s overall revenue pie, OEG’s lone Polish casino generated revenue of €4.6m in Q1 2016. OEG’s Warsaw Olympic Casino Sunrise, which had been in business for nine years, had its license renewal rejected by Poland’s Ministry of Finance last September over OEG’s apparent failure to submit its paperwork on time.

Push brings sharp technology focus to Juegos Miami

Push Technology is one of a growing number of commercial organisations that will be at Juegos Miami in order to establish a foothold in Latin America. CEO, Sean Bowen, explains the Push philosophy, the power of technology and how working alongside successful gaming companies such as 888 Holdings differs from working with IBM.

Push works with gaming companies such as 888Holdings and technology companies like IBM – how does working with these companies differ and what are the nuances of working in the gaming sector?

Push Technology is a leader in serving the eGaming market with data streaming technology.  As such, we know that gaming companies require flexible infrastructure options.  To be more specific, eGaming companies favour tax haven locations for their operational infrastructure.  This presents difficulties for cloud-only solution vendors wishing to sell products to eGaming companies.  Problematically, data centres are rarely located in tax haven countries, because these countries are low population geographies and not advantageous locations, from a revenue perspective, for data centre and cloud hosting vendors.  Therefore, and despite some cloud-only providers’ ability to run across multiple data centre locations, cloud-only technology solutions cannot address the requisite business requirements of eGaming companies.

Often, the ideal solution for optimal operations is to implement either an on-premise solution in the tax haven location or a hybrid infrastructure configuration that combines both on-premise and cloud.  With on-premise, eGaming companies solve the regulatory, location preference and security issues, while the cloud component provides efficiencies of scale and cost for end-user client applications.  A hybrid solution can be the optimal solution to address the nuanced business requirements specific to eGaming companies.

Pennsylvania pols prepping kamikaze online gambling bill

If you ever doubted Pennsylvania legislators’ sincerity in their attempts to pass online gambling legislation, your skepticism has been handsomely rewarded.

Tuesday brought a flurry of tweets from GamblingCompliance scribe Chris Krafcik (@CKrafcik) regarding the direction that the Pennsylvania state Senate’s Community, Economic & Recreational Development (CERD) committee is “leaning toward” with regards to intrastate online gambling legislation.

The stupefying sextet of Krafcik tweets began with an ominous warning that Pennsylvania’s already meandering path toward regulated online gambling was “becoming more torturous.” For one thing, Category 3 casinos would be ineligible for online licensing under CERD’s plan, therefore leaving Valley Forge and Lacy Luck Nemacolin on the sidelines.

CERD is reportedly proposing a bifurcated online licensing regime; one for poker-only sites, the other covering casino games. There would be a maximum of 10 available licenses of each type, and each of these would require operators to ante up a $5m fee, putting the state’s total upfront take at a nice round $100m.

NBA playoff betting: Spurs, Cavs home favorites for Wednesday games

The third-seeded Houston Rockets surprised many with a 126-99 rout of the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs as six-point road underdogs in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal playoff series on Monday. Now the question is, will the Spurs bounce back in Game 2 and cover the spread as five-point home chalk on Wednesday?

San Antonio had won the last three meetings heading into the series opener along with six of the previous seven, going 5-2 against the spread during that stretch. But six Rockets scored in double figures in Game 1, as they built a massive 69-39 halftime lead and cruised from there.

Houston’s Patrick Beverley scored just seven points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists, although the team was plus-37 with him on the court. The Rockets were also plus-37 with Ryan Anderson, who scored 14 points.
