Becky’s Affiliated: The Peerplays blockchain and why the gambling industry should take notice

Continuing on with my recent theme of Bitcoin and blockchain, this edition of Becky’s Affiliated is dedicated to the Peersplays blockchain and how it has the potential to revolutionize the betting industry as we know it.

I spoke with the senior management of the non-profit organization Peerplays Blockchain Standards Association (PBSA) to find out how much progress has been made since the blockchain’s recent launch and why the gambling industry should take notice.

The Peerplays blockchain went live on June 6, 2017 and according to Michael Maloney, Director of Intelligence at PBSA, things are moving along smoothly for the Peerplays blockchain community.

“All PPY tokens have been successfully allocated in the genesis block as described in the Peerplays Bulletin dated February 21, 2017.  The Peerplays blockchain now has thousands of PPY token holders, and over 10,000 unique addresses”, Maloney shared.

Craig Wright breaks SegWit’s illusion of bitcoin network scale

Segregated Witness proposes to distribute value, but does it really see the value of bitcoin?

In a bid to resolve bitcoin’s underlying scaling issue, different parties have been proposing to scale in different ways. Among these proposals is Bitcoin Core’s Segregated Witness, or SegWit, whose main goal is to send signature data or witnesses off-chain and onto second layers like the Lightning Network or sidechains to fit more transactions into the current 1MB block size.

SegWit will not deliver

Many experts have already poked holes in SegWit’s “unworkable” schemes. Its use of a 1:4 ratio has already been pointed out as a political decision that will bind bitcoin’s trajectory for years regardless of technical factors. From a legal perspective, separating and discarding signature data creates more practical problems in the business world as it would make legal proof significantly more difficult.

Gambling Business Group happy to comply with FOI request

Peter Hannibal, Chief Executive of the Gambling Business Group

Strategic body, the Gambling Business Group (GBG), whose members account for the majority of Gross Gaming Yield in the UK, is complying with a Freedom Of Information request which has been forwarded by HM Treasury. The request relates to the GBG’s response to the 4th Anti Money Laundering Directive consultation which it submitted in September 2016.

The GBG was at the forefront of the debate which resulted in the Treasury opting to maintain the status quo and exclude all gambling sectors from the 4th AMLD that were not already included. Peter Hannibal, Chief Executive of the GBG said: “As we write our submissions in the expectation that they will be made public we have no issue with this. However, whilst we were delighted with the Treasury’s conclusion it is interesting to now learn that someone is looking into the background to their decision to maintain the status quo with regard to regulated gambling sectors.”

He added: “We were happy to be able to assist the industry and in 2015 issued an open invitation to the Treasury to visit venues run by GBG member companies, to meet with staff and to witness at first hand the relationship which exists with customers. I was delighted the  key people at the Treasury and DCMS were able to take me up on the invitation and spend time in a number of Cashino AGCs, at Wimbledon Stadium, The Hippodrome Casino as well as the Beacon Bingo Club in Cricklewood. Seeing the industry at first hand, talking direct with operators and learning more about the systems and processes that are in place to detect any changes in behaviour or suspicious activities, certainly contributed positively to the debate.”

Former Intabill founder Daniel Tzvetkoff is running a vertical farm

The former Intabill founder, Daniel Tzvetkoff – a man who helped bring down online poker in the States – is currently loving life as a vertical farmer in Brisbane.

I get it now.

When Daniel Tzvetkoff was working in a Brisbane Pizza Hut, he always had a steely determination to remain in the food industry. The whole Intabill, processing $543m in gambling money, and nearly spending his entire life behind bars was just a stepping stone.

The former Aussie playboy, once referred to as The Wolf of Las Vegas, is back in business, only this time he is not making millions processing the funds of online poker players, but he has returned to his foody roots.

Partypoker hire Richard Dubini; Michael van Gerwen next?

Partypoker has added the Argentine professional, Richard Dubini, to their long list of ambassadors, and the Professional Darts Corporation world number one, Michael van Gerwen, makes an appearance at the World Series of Poker.

There was a time when heartless online poker rooms were finishing ambassadorial contracts like sharks on chum.

It’s a different world, today.

Nothing has changed, and yet everything has changed.

As detailed by the PGCB, Sands Bethlehem was cited for no less than 10 separate incidents over a roughly five-month span in which individuals as young as 16 years old were able to gain access to the casino’s gaming floor, where they proceeded to wager at slot machines and gaming tables.

One 20-year-old female gained access to Sands Bethlehem’s gaming floor on three separate occasions during a single day, during which she managed to play some slots and quaff some booze. Another 20-year-old female enjoyed a similar slots-and-hooch cocktail in a separate incident, while also throwing in some table game action as a chaser.

WSOP Main Event day 2ab review: The defending champ Qui Nguyen is out

A quick round-up of the action as the World Series of Poker Main Event breezed through Day 2a/b, and we will have a new champion after James Akenhead eliminated Qui Nguyen.

2,219 players took a seat in Day 2a/b of the 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Each equipped with an in-built metal detector seeking out the only piece of gold: Mickey Mouse in a spacesuit, a plastic hot dog, and a boob amongst the plastic toys protecting the cards from the muck.

Those left over from Day 1a and Day 1b may have been sitting in the same casino, but the fields were kept separate, with a united front happening during Day 3.

The fallout of both days produced two chip leaders, each playing the WSOP Main Event for the first time. Mickey Craft, who finished third in the $3,000 Limit Hold’em Six-Max, ended as the Day 2a chip leader with 608,100.
