In a separate filing, the company reported a RMB1.65-billion ($242 million) loss for the first half of 2018, after last year’s RMB633-million ($93-million) loss for the corresponding period.

College Football week 1 betting preview

It’s important to know that college football non-conference schedules are generally set years in advance. Thus, a school could schedule an opponent this year for a game in 2023 expecting said foe to be a good team like it would be in 2018. Doesn’t always happen that way.

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

In the College Football Playoff era, teams have taken different approaches to their Week 1 foes. Alabama has been playing a marquee opponent at a neutral site, and that continues this Saturday as the top-ranked Tide are 25-point favorites in Orlando against Louisville (a former marquee opponent perhaps). That spread would look quite different if the Cardinals still had former Heisman-winning QB Lamar Jackson, but he’s now with the Baltimore Ravens. The Tide are 9-1 ATS in their past 10 Week 1 games.

The week kicks off with the defending national champion Central Florida Knights, ranked No. 21, visiting American Athletic Conference foe Connecticut on Thursday night with UCF at -23. UCF wasn’t the true national champion last year, of course, but claimed a mythical one as the nation’s only unbeaten team. The Huskies have covered their past five AAC games.

India’s Adda52 to hold Deltin Poker Tournament in Sikkim next month

India’ most popular online poker portal, Adda52, will host the first edition of its Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) in Sikkim in September. The tournament, dubbed “DPT Xpress,” will be held at the Deltin Denzong Casino in Gangtok and will offer a variety of low-stakes games.

The series of tournaments is scheduled for September 27-30 and offers events with buy-ins ranging from 5,000-15,000 rupees ($71-$213). A 5,000 rupee buy-in tournament will be held on day 1, followed by a 10,000 rupee buy-in event on day two and the 15,000-rupee buy-in Main Event will be held on September 29. On September 30, a players choice event will wrap up the series.

According to Manish Adnani, Business Head (Poker) for Adda52’s parent company, Delta Corp., “DPT has evolved as a product over the past 28 months since its inception in early 2016. Back then, we just had one series the Deltin Poker Tournament which attracted regulars, pros and all kinds of recreational players. As the fabric and the space has evolved we felt the need to have a Super High Roller series which took shape in the form of DPT Colossus in April this year clearly dissecting the High rollers from the rest of the pack.

“Having said this, there are players who do play cash games at least 3-4 times a week in A, B and C cities but never make it out of the closet to a DPT event as they generally don’t land up playing live tournaments primarily due to high buy-ins and the standard of the game with the pros and regulars participating in these player fields.

Melco sees huge gains in profits during the first half of the year

Melco International released its financial report for the first half of the year to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Monday, and things look good. So good, in fact, that profits increased by 109.4% over the same period last year. In the first half of 2018, Melco picked up $43.9 million, a substantial jump over the $20.96 million reported in the first half of last year.

The increase came as a result of “better group-wide performance in all gaming segments and recovery of previously provided doubtful debt,” according to the company. Melco International is the owner of Melco Resorts, which operates casinos in Macau and the Philippines. The company’s Morpheus, a $1.1-billion hotel tower at City of Dreams Macau, opened during the first of the year, helping boost the company’s numbers.

Melco also recently opened another casino on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. That facility is a temporary casino that will be a precursor to its permanent operations on the island. Melco is also said to be a possible contender for a license in the newly approved Japanese casino resort market.

Net revenues for the first half of the year came in at $2.52 billion, a decrease of 1.6% on the $2.56 billion seen during the same period last year. Its trade receivables, which is typically linked to VIP gambling credit, rose to $221.6 million, while the provision for impairment on the receivables dropped from 2017’s figure of $38.82 million to $31.1 million for the period.

Scientific Games shows off new lottery gaming system in Kansas

US-based Scientific Games Corporation (SG) has introduced an innovative gaming system for the Kansas Lottery. It offers a modern complement of Wave point-of-sale retail terminals in addition to an updated list of draw games and is part of the company’s “strategic plan” to increase revenues for the state.

According to a press release, the new system is already live in the state lottery’s retail network, which includes approximately 1,700 stores. According to Pat McHugh, SG’s Global Lottery Systems Senior VP, said, “The new enterprise gaming system and related services from Scientific Games Corporation will help the Kansas Lottery achieve the strategic goals it set to maximize returns to state of Kansas’ programs.”

Racetrax is offered by all Kansas Lottery retail establishments, including around 300 that allow players to watch their own races on TV monitors.

He further stated, “We are honored to be the provider of choice to help the Kansas Lottery grow over the next decade and serve its players and retailers by continuously integrating the industry’s most innovative game content, products and technology.”

Mississippi vote shrinks number of lottery-free US states to five

The number of US states with no lottery products whatsoever has shrunk to five after Mississippi legislators did an overnight about-face on a lottery bill.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi House of Representatives voted 58-54 in favor of a bill that would allow the creation of a state lottery. Mississippi is currently one of only six US states that has no lottery. (The other states are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.)

The vote was preceded by a positive vote in the state Senate on Monday, then a separate House vote on Monday night that defeated the bill by a margin of 60-54. That prompted some furious backroom arm-twisting and lobbying, leading to the second House vote on Tuesday.

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, a longtime lottery proponent, initially chastised House Democrats for the bill’s defeat, but the GOP holds a majority in the House, and of the eight legislators who switched their votes on Tuesday, five were Republicans.

Macau sees fewer gaming-related detentions, more loansharks

Macau’s casino-related crime stats took a dip in the first half of 2018, even as the number of loansharking cases rose significantly.

On Tuesday, Macau’s Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak gave a press conference to update crime figures recorded by the Judiciary Police (PJ) in the six months of 2018. The overall number of casino-related cases sent to the Public Prosecutions Office was 840, a 3.3% decline over the same period last year.

The number of gaming-related forcible detentions – in which gamblers are held against their will until family or friends agree to make good on a gambler’s debt – was down 41% to 229. The secretary credited this decline to the PJ ramping up efforts to disrupt the gaming hub’s loansharks.

That enhanced effort led to a surge in gaming-related loansharking cases, which rose over 38% to 254 cases in H1. Police widened the scope of their traditional anti-loansharking investigations to include areas further away from the casino properties, including apartments, where the lenders were still predominantly targeting gambling clients.

Russia’s telecom watchdog beefs up gambling blacklist tools

Russia’s telecom and banking watchdogs are ramping up their efforts to keep international online gambling sites from reaching their Russian customers.

Russian telecom agency Roskomnadzor recently alerted the country’s internet service providers regarding plans to improve the agency’s notoriously ineffective domain-blocking mechanism. The new plan, which will kick in on October 1, will allow Roskomnadzor to enter domains into the forbidden registry using the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

Until now, Roskomnadzor’s blocking mechanism had relied on the previous IPv4 protocol, which was supplanted by IPv6 over a year ago. Roskomnadzor’s reliance on the old protocol allowed internationally licensed gambling sites to slip through the agency’s porous defenses.

The move follows the decision by MTS, Russia’s largest mobile operator, to roll out IPv6 across the country following a successful test in the Moscow district.
