Kenya gambling operators face new advertising restrictions

Kenya’s gambling operators may yet receive their long-awaited tax relief while possibly facing new restrictions on their ability to market their operations.

On Sunday, Kenyan media outlet The Star reported that the Kenyan parliament’s National Finance and Planning committee had recommended reducing the 35% uniform tax on all gambling revenue to 15%, while also cutting the 25% share directed towards social causes to 5%.

Media reports from June had already signaled the committee’s intentions to reduce the tax, and it’s not clear from this new report that the tax plan has actually made any concrete forward progress. That said, the proposed reduction in social cause funding won’t win the already vulnerable gambling sector any brownie points from the general public.

The 35% tax rate was imposed on January 1, despite betting operators arguing that the new rate would cut their margins by nearly half. Some operators opted to curtail their local operations while others like SportPesa withdrew their significant sponsorship of local sports. SportPesa has since renewed some of these deals, albeit at reduced rates.

Portugal’s online gambling market enjoys World Cup boost

Portugal’s online gambling operators got a much-needed boost from the 2018 FIFA World Cup during the second quarter of 2018.

New figures from the Serviço Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos do Turismo de Portugal (SRIJ) regulatory body showed online sports betting revenue hitting €20.5m in the three months ending June 30, a significant bump over the €13.9m recorded in the same period last year and the €17.4m in Q1 2018.

Portugal’s eight licensed online operators – who collectively hold 13 online licenses – reported over 103k new customer registrations in Q2, 40k higher than signed up in Q2 2017. Of these new customers, nearly half signed up in June, in time for the first half of the World Cup tourney.

Total sports betting handle hit €89.8m in Q2, a year-on-year increase of more than €22m, although Q2’s figure marked a sequential decline from Q1’s €100.3m. To no one’s surprise, football accounted for nearly three-quarters (74.4%) of all sports wagers in Q2, with tennis (14.2% and basketball (7.2%) well back of the mark.

LatestCasinoBonuses moving to LCB.org domain

It is said that a good protein diet can perform miracles, but in case you’re wondering how to build bigger muscles in the casino industry, here’s another approach: switch your domain to org and rebrand your business, only first grow your network beyond any known limits.

To put it differently, a renowned directory and reviewer of online casinos, LatestCasinoBonuses, has taken the next step in presenting its network by switching to a completely different domain. The next stage of branding is the next logical step in the evolution of the company, given the fact that LCB moniker is already well established and famous within the industry. Therefore, the group has decided to go with a much suitable extension for the entire hierarchy of sites and acquisitions, respectively LCB.org .

Since the foundation in 2006, the company has made a lot of progress, and after experiencing great success online, the team slowly started expanding the network. Launching new sites about online gambling such as CasinoListings soon became a metaphor for providing elite information about online and land-based venues, bonuses, and latest news.

By acquiring more brands, the network has gathered an immense database of registered users, who helped LCB expand by providing feedback, tips, offers and shared posts. After receiving its first awards for delivering reliable information related to iGaming, the forum indexed more than 80,000 registered members.

Another snippet from the PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona as Lee Davy stands alongside Maria Konnikova to pester her brain about reading, stoicism and Harvard.

As the violins sweep through my head sending the cobwebs onto the dancefloor, I stare out across the ocean and think about what to write. You see, this isn’t any old poker article. It’s an article about a New York Times Bestseller.

It feels like my reputation is on the line.

Like every word has to mean something.

EPL Review Week 3: City drop points; Liverpool take full advantage

Match Day 3 of the English Premier League sees Man City drop two points at Wolves, and Liverpool capitalise with a victory over Brighton to take them to the top of the league.

Wolves 1 v 1 Man City

After watching Manchester City’s Amazon Prime documentary All or Nothing, you can’t help but get caught up in the romanticism of the rise of the Blue half of Manchester.

Under Pep Guardiola they look like a side capable of bettering the glittering array of stats created by Sir Alex Ferguson at his pomp. And this is why it was a shock to learn that City had only come away from the Midlands with a point this weekend.

South Korea’s K International considering Russian casino

A casino operator out of South Korea is possibly looking to open operations in Russia. Asia Gaming Brief (AG Brief) reports that K International Incorporated has been discussing the possibility of opening a project with the state-owned Primorsky Krai Development Corporation (PKDC), the entity managing the Primorye Integrated Entertainment Resort (PIER) zone near Vladivostok.

K International reportedly wants to build a $263.6-million hotel and entertainment complex in the PIER. The complex would include the hotel, a casino, a shopping center and a duty-free zone to the area and would be built on a 49-acre parcel of land.

The PIER is a casino-friendly project established by the Russian government. It already has seen the completion of the Tigre De Cristal resort, built at a cost of $144 million, and NagaCorp Limited’s Naga Vladivostok resort is in the works. Additionally, the $900-million Selena World Resort and Casino, a project planned by Russia’s Diamond Fortune Holdings company, will soon see the opening of its first phase.

Of the land that was allocated for the PIER zone, 118 acres are still available. K International’s resort would consume a large chunk of this land and the company has been considering launching a project in the area for some time.
