Poker Central launch ‘Friday Night Poker’ on Facebook Watch

Poker Central partner with Stadium to launch a brand new show allowing poker fans to connect with users of Facebook Watch.

It wasn’t that long ago that I had to wait a week to watch an episode of the World Poker Tour (WPT), and even then it was on at an obscure time. Crikey, I also remember coming home from the nightclubs, smashed, and sitting on the sofa to come down watching Hitman & Her and Late Night Poker.

Back then, episodes of poker were as rare as episodes of Game of Thrones and Stones Roses’ albums.

Poker Central has changed all of that.

Washington DC wants a piece of the US sports betting action

Washington D.C. council member Jack Evans introduced a bill that would legalize sports betting in the U.S. capital, the Washington Post reported.

Evans said at a council breakfast that the federal district had to act quickly in order to get a foothold on the industry, which had been banned in most parts of the country until the Supreme Court lifted the ban last May.

“We can be first and get a lot of money or 51st and not get any,” Evans said. According to the Washington Post, the nearest place for people in the district to bet on games was over an hour away, in West Virginia. Neighboring states Maryland and Virginia have not legalized sports betting, although Maryland does have casinos.

The bill would amend the existing law that allows lotteries, daily number games, and bingo and raffles for charitable purposes. To these, “sports wagering” will be listed.

Mandatory casino closures during public emergencies proposed in Macau

The Macau government is considering legislation that would provide for the mandatory closure of casinos in the event of public emergencies, Inside Asian Gaming reported.

This comes after last weekend’s closures as Typhoon Mangkhut hit the special administrative region, already leading to downward revenue projections for the month. The government finally allowed the casinos to reopen Monday morning, after over 24 hours.

Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong said the government has yet to decide whether required closures would be part of the ongoing discussions on changes to Macau’s civil protection system.

“Will the closure in the future be regular? For the time being, I still cannot say,” Leong said, noting that the SAR’s six casino operators had fully cooperated with the directive to close the casinos, but that the procedure during similar events could be optimized.

EPL week 5 Review: All square in the south-coast derby

Match Day 5 of the English Premier League comes to a close after a thrilling 2-2 draw between South Coast rivals Southampton and Brighton at St Mary’s.

It’s not much fun being a Southampton fan these days.

Mauricio Pochettino led them to an 8th place finish in the English Premier League (EPL) back in 2013/14. Ronald Koeman went one better, driving them to a 7th place finish in 2014/15, and a 6th place finish in 2015/16. Claude Puel came in during the 2016/17 season, and also managed an 8th place finish.

What makes those heady days even more remarkable is year after year, the Southampton board kept selling their best players and losing the very managers who whipped the nobodies into shape.

Zitro combines spectacular products and flexible business formulas to support Argentinian operators

Last May, Zitro celebrated its first Zitro Experience event in Argentina, where, in addition to presenting its products, founder Johnny Viveiros Ortiz announced their commitment to the market and their closeness to the needs of the Argentinian operator. The situation caused by the strength of the dollar has given Zitro the opportunity to translate into deeds the words of Johnny at that event.

Zitro presented at SAGSE its wide range of Bryke Video Slots products with the highlight on its progressive banks which are already causing a stir in Argentina’s gaming halls, such as the spectacular Link King LAP progressive multigame distinguishable by an imposing presence and by its emotion-laden games, as well as the range of standalone multigames including the wildly popular Pick & Win series and the most recently released Hot Deal and Spin Hit series. Furthermore, Zitro once again surprised visitors with Power Bingo Link, its latest innovation in Video Bingo. A bingo video game that also has all the appeal of the best progressive banks. The investment made by Zitro in products for Argentina is a tangible proof of the commitment to the market that the company promised in May.

But Zitro’s formidable products could not have reached the Argentinian gambling halls without commercial formulas that helped alleviate the pressure that operators are under when having to acquire debt in a foreign currency. At a time when the Argentinian peso is going through a challenging moment, the Argentinian operators that visited the Zitro stand were surprised, not only by how spectacular the company’s products are but also at discovering the formulas offered by Zitro to place these products at your disposal. This way Zitro also fulfils its promise of closeness to the operator by helping them overcome the current situation, as promised by Johnny Viveiros Ortiz at the May event.

New online poker website comes to India

It was only a couple of days ago that Poker Raj was introduced to India’s online poker landscape. Now, another company has announced that it is taking the plunge, as well.

Caretel Infotech Limited, a business outsourcing and software company, is the latest to enter the mix. The company has launched its “Poker Johny” poker portal in an effort to expand its portfolio of offerings. The portal’s website, pokerjohny.com, is registered to Caretel’s CEO, Rajesh Sehgal.

Caretel has been promoted by Sanjay Dalmia of the Dalmia Group. Dalmia is a former member of India’s Parliament and represented Uttar Pradesh. He has close ties to the founder of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav and is the son of former Vishnu Hari Dalmia, the former president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad International.

The Dalmia Group operates in a number of sectors, including textiles, tobacco, chemicals and more. The company is also the parent to Delta Corp., through a subsidiary, and Viaan Industries, both of which operate online poker portals.

Poker pro accuses backer of extortion

If you’ve never heard the expression, “If I invest and you win, you owe me and if you lose, you still owe me,” it’s probably because it doesn’t exist. However, that is what one poker player and staker seems to think. The dispute has boiled up so much that the backer is now being accused of trying to extort money out of the player.

It all started about two years ago. Poker pro Cate Hall, with three WPT final tables and over $1 million to her credit, found a backer through poker pro Chad Power for a summer run at mid-stakes cash games. Unfortunately, Hall wasn’t able to find Lady Luck and ended up losing her staker’s $60,000 that summer. It happens – no one can be a winner all the time and, as with any investment, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

According to Power, however, losing still means winning. He argued that Hall was still on the hook for the $60,000. He asserted that the two had agreed that she would pay him a cut of her winnings, as well as the investment if she lost.

When Hall refused to pay up, things turned ugly. She felt it was time to take the fight public, and launched into Power on Twitter earlier this week. She said, “Chad claims to be motivated [in making the dispute public] by interests of potential backers, so I’m posting a full account of the dispute to negate that. If you’re interested in backing me in the future, know I’d never agree to a deal where I’m on the hook for 100 percent of losses but only get a share of profits.”

Okada makes demands for information related to Manila casino deal

Kazuo Okada is determined to recuperate his place with Universal Entertainment Corp. The former chairman, who was ousted in June of last year, is hoping that he can garner some support through the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and has asked it to force the handover of details surrounding transactions between Tiger Resort Asia and Asiabest Group International, which Tiger Resort is working to acquire.

Okada has sent two letters to the PSE over the deal. The first was sent on September 13 and requested that the exchange order Asiabest to reveal all of the details for any relative transactions. The second letter was sent on September 17 and wants Manila’s Capital Markets Integrity Corporation, the organization that regulates the PSE, to launch an investigation into Asiabest’s disclosures.

Okada asserts that he owns 34.41% of Tiger Resort, as well as the TRLEI subsidiary, which operates Okada Manila. As a majority stockholder, he insists that he should have been consulted on the deal that would see Tiger Resort take over about 66% of Asiabest, but he alleges that he was not involved. That deal is expected to be completed on November 12.

According to his September 17 letter, Okada asserts, “ABG (Asiabest Group), as a publicly listed company, should make a full disclosure of its impending sale transaction with Tiger Asia, particularly that there is a legal controversy on Tiger Asia’s authority to enter into such transaction.”

Resorts World Manila owner announces $4.4 CAPEX

Alliance Global Group (AGG) is preparing to launch a $4.4-billion CAPEX (capital expenditure) from now until 2021. The move is designed to help the company cover expansion projects for its hotel and integrated resort (IR) operations. AGG is an investment holding company out of the Philippines that controls 50% of the company behind Resorts World Manila (RWM), Travellers International Hotel Group.

RWM is currently undergoing phase 3 of an expansion project by Travellers that is expected to be completed shortly. The project will see the inclusion of a new Grand Wing casino, as well as hotels by Sheraton, Hilton and Okura. Travellers is also in the process of completing the final designs for a new IR that will be located in Entertainment City in Manila.

AGG indicated that the investment will cover a number of development projects across the Philippines, as well as constructing of new lifestyle malls and residential facilities and upgrades to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. According to the company’s CEO, Kevin Tan, “We are mindful of the current domestic and global economic developments, but we remain cognizant of the vast opportunities in the market; hence, our continued aggressive capital spending.”

Additionally, part of the money will go toward increasing the number of McDonalds fast food outlets the company owns across the Philippines and to fund maintenance CAPEX.

SuperBook concept to hit new US markets

Westgate Resorts and Paragon Gaming are looking to be a major force in the sports gambling industry in the US. The two connected entities announced yesterday that they will be launching Westgate’s SuperBook concept to all gaming markets where sports gambling has already been legalized. Paragon, which is based out of Las Vegas, operates the Westgate Las Vegas for Orlando, Florida-based Westgate Resorts.

The SuperBook will be a separate joint venture that will act as a sports betting operators for racetracks and casinos. According to Paragon CEO Rob Oseland, “In a way, we’re decoupling the SuperBook brand from the Westgate so it can stand on its own in other markets and compete for market share.”

Westgate SuperBook’s executive VP of race and sportsbook operations, Jay Kornegay, looks at this as an opportunity to provide a solution that can operate, manage and assume all the risks for new sportsbook operations. He calls it “the natural next step in the evolution of our industry.”

The SuperBook at Westgate first launched in 1986. The resort was then known as the Las Vegas Hilton and the new 30,000-square-foot sportsbook cost $17 million to build. Today, it is the largest sports gambling operation in Nevada, and is accompanied by a mobile-based sports gambling application.
