Melco adds additional time off as new employee benefit
Just about the only thing more valuable than money is time. Melco is hoping that rings true for its employees, as the Macau casino operator has announced additional rest days for their non-management employees.
The new policy will take effect July 1, 2019. It states that if an employee has a rest day on a statutory holiday, they will gain an additional rest day. They can then have that additional day off within 30 days, before or after, the holiday, whenever the company tells them they can have it.
There are 20 statutory holidays in 2019, so this new policy will add some time off for a good chunk of Melco’s work force.
Melco Resorts Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho Yau said of the new policy, “In the Chinese New Year, we are pleased to announce the new arrangements on additional rest days for our non-management operational colleagues who are, together with all Melco employees, highly valued and appreciated.”

Jumio launches first end-to-end Biometric Verification Solution coupling identity proofing with ongoing 3D face authentication
Jumio Authentication enables users to verify themselves during high-risk transactions and unlock everything from online accounts to rental cars, replacing passwords on any device.
London – Feb. 14, 2019 – Jumio, the leading AI-powered trusted identity as a service provider, today announces the launch of Jumio Authentication. This new video-selfie authentication solution is the first in the market to leverage biometrics for initial identity proofing and ongoing user authentication — creating an online experience that is fast, secure, accurate and easy to use.
This secure and rapid authentication method is ideal for account logins and high-risk scenarios (e.g., logging in from a foreign IP address or authorising high-risk transactions such as wire transfers and online purchases). Secure selfie authentication can also be used to unlock doors (rental cars), self check-in (hotels), e-learning (online test taking) and continuous security (e.g., re-verifying the identity of ride-sharing drivers on a frequent basis).
“As more of our important interactions move online, establishing trust digitally has become critical,” said Stephen Stuut, CEO of Jumio. “Jumio is pioneering selfie-based authentication to allow businesses to leverage biometric user data captured during enrolment and re-verify that data in the future. With our new selfie-based authentication, users are not required to repeat the identity proofing process again — they just take a quick selfie — and as the digital chain of trust grows, so does the security level.”

Responsible gaming and gambling done right?
Why attend the RiG Conference?
There are many conferences where scholars and other experts share the latest insights on problem gambling, its prevalence, and the neurological effects seen in the brains of people with a gambling disorder.
But how do we translate these insights into concrete and specific measures for operators to implement in their day-to-day operations? And what should regulators know and do about it?
NagaCorp revenue tops $1.4b in 2018 as Naga2 casino shines
Cambodian casino operator NagaCorp enjoyed record business in 2018 thanks to its expanded Phnom Penh operations and surging VIP gambling turnover.
On Wednesday, NagaCorp released its financial performance for 2018, during which gaming revenue rose 55% to US$1.4b, earnings improved 60% to $511.8m and net profit jumped 53% to $390.6m.
NagaCorp said its 2018 profit would have risen by 100% were it not for a $60m payment it earned in 2017 from the assignment of a licensing right to certain investors to operate electronic gaming machines (EGM). The company said it had opted against renewing this right despite “ready demand.”
VIP gambling turnover was up 69% to $35.7b last year and VIP revenue jumped 71% to $10.7b, thanks in part to the late-2017 opening of the Naga2 addition to the company’s flagship NagaWorld property in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh. NagaCorp said Naga2 has enjoyed strong “customer demand for higher table limits.”

You have to hand it to the folks at NASCAR as they really know how to kick off their top series, the Monster Energy Cup, with a bang. The co-favorite is Brad Keselowski at +800 even though he is looking for his first Daytona 500 victory. He did win the non-points Clash at Daytona last year but was then knocked out of the 500 in a multi-car crash. Keselowski completed 102 laps. Keselowski drives Team Penske’s No. 2 Ford. His best Daytona result was third in 2014. Keselowski has had a lot of success at the other restrictor-plate track on the circuit, winning five times at Talladega.
Joey Logano is also +800. He won the 2015 Daytona 500 on a green-white-checkered overtime restart. That restart came after a six-minute red-flag period caused by a Justin Allgaier crash. Logano in 2009 became the youngest-ever race winner in NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series history at age 19.
