Lakers vs. Celtics highlights Thursday NBA odds

Per usual TNT has the NBA national TV doubleheader on Thursday, but the most-watched part of the night’s action might come before the two games. That’s because starting at 7pm ET TNT will broadcast the All-Star Game draft for the first time.

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

It’s the second year of this format but the league didn’t televise it last season, which drew widespread criticism. Various sportsbooks have odds on which player LeBron James will choose first overall (among other props); he picks first as the leading All-Star vote-getter, and the other captain is Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

As for on the court, the first game features LeBron’s Los Angeles Lakers visiting the Boston Celtics as underdogs on the NBA odds in what is arguably the league’s best rivalry between its two most storied franchises. It’s LeBron’s first taste of Lakers-Celtics.

Martin Gaudreault-Remillard wins WPTDeepStacks Montreal for $182,790

Martin Gaudreault-Remillard has won the CAD 1,650 buy-in WPTDeepStacks Montreal Main Event at the Playground Poker Club, for only his second ever live tournament score.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) has burned through another event, brushed the ashes into a golden urn, and thrown them into the parking lot at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal.

One thing I don’t miss from my live reporting days is having to repeatedly hammer names like Martin Gaudreault-Remillard into my keyboard when they run deep, and you don’t get much deeper than the #1 spot.

Gaudreault-Remillard has just taken down the CAD 1,650 buy-in WPTDeepStacks (WPTDS) Montreal Main Event, conquering a field of 686-entrants, to win the $182,790 first prize and a seat into the WPTDeepStacks Championships worth $3,000.

Atlantic City’s Ocean Resort Casino lost $22.7m in five months

Atlantic City’s Ocean Resort Casino’s latest ownership change took a step forward Wednesday, despite compliance failures by its existing owner and doubts over the property’s future success.

Wednesday saw the New Jersey Casino Control Commission (CCC) meet to discuss the proposed sale of Ocean Resort Casino (ORC) to New York-based hedge fund Luxor Capital Group LP. The deal was announced late last month by the property’s current owner, Colorado developer Bruce Deifik.

The Press of Atlantic City reported that the CCC approved a divestiture trust agreement between Deifik and Luxor Capital that will enable ORC to remain open while Luxor’s principals undergo vetting by the Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) for interim casino authorization.

Only after successfully clearing this interim hurdle, which could take up to four months, will Luxor be subjected to the more rigorous poking and prodding to determine its suitability to hold a full New Jersey gaming license.

Nevada casinos blame fiscal 2018’s $1.2b loss on Caesars

Nevada biggest casinos reported an overall net loss in their most recent fiscal year, and Caesars Entertainment’s bankruptcy restructuring got most of the blame.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (GCB) released its Nevada Gaming Abstract 2018, which covers the fiscal year ending June 30, 2018. The report tracks the performance of the 289 state gaming licensees that grossed $1m or more in gaming revenue during the reporting period.

The report shows these 289 venues generated gross revenue of $27.1b in the most recent fiscal year, around $900m (3.4%) higher than the 12 months ending June 30, 2017. That’s a slightly slower growth rate than the 3.7% reported the previous year but marks the eighth straight year that revenue has posted a year-on-year rise.

However, those 289 casinos reported a net loss of $1.17b in the most recent report, a big swing from the $1.56b profit in fiscal 2017 and snapping the state’s two-year streak of annual profit increases. Total general and administrative expenses shot up by more than $3b in fiscal 2018, most of which occurred in the ‘other’ category.

Two news stories from Winamax including Team Pro Michel Abécassis announcing his retirement, and a snazzy Who’s The King Bitches promotion from the French online poker darlings.

There are 300 nuclear weapons inside French borders, and it costs $4 billion to give them the occasional spit wash. A few days ago, as the dawn burst into view across the French skyline, a Rafale warplane launched a nuclear cruise missile during a simulation. The warhead remained under lock and key.

But that’s not the biggest news in France.

Not at all.

Casino magnate: Fight not yet over, I still control TRLEI, Okada Manila

The camp of casino magnate Kazuo Okada insisted that the fight to regain control of his company is not yet over, saying the Tokyo decision regarding the agreement between his two children is not yet final.

In a statement issued by the casino magnate’s lawyers, they said Okada’s daughter, Hiromi, plans to appeal the Tokyo decision in the complaint filed against her by brother, Tomohiro.

“Until the decision becomes final, the fight is not yet over and Kazuo Okada remains in control of Universal Entertainment Corporation (UEC) as 99 percent owner of Okada Holdings Limited,” the lawyers said.

Okada Holdings Limited (OHL) owns 68 percent of UEC, the parent company of Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment, Inc. (TRLEI), the operator of Okada Manila.

PokerStars shed two ambassadors as Jeff Gross & Jaime Staples leave

PokerStars Ambassadors, Jaime Staples and Jeff Gross, have announced the end of their PokerStars contracts two days apart.

PokerStars is light in the ambassadorial department after Jeff Gross and Jaime Staples walked away from the largest online poker room in the world, high heels in hand, looking towards the horizon, hoping for something better to come along.

As is standard at times like these, PokerStars left it to the pros to break the news via social media, and the first to throw his patch into the dirt was Jeff Gross.

Gross joined PokerStars ahead of the 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at a time it looked like his Poker Flow Show was heading to 888Poker.

Russia adds more gambling sites to payment processing blacklist

Russia has added more online gambling operators to its payment processing blacklist, but it remains to be seen what success this tactic will achieve.

On Wednesday, Russian gambling affiliate Bookmaker Ratings reported that the Federal Tax Service (FTS) had added 16 names to its list of companies with which Russian financial institutions are forbidden to do business. The FTS announced last month that the Curacao-licensed online casino Azino777 was the first company added to this list.

The newly blacklisted names include four locally familiar gambling faces: Baltsport NV (Baltbet), Betcity Network NV (Betcity), Pari-Match NV (Parimatch) and Leon International Ltd (Leon). All four hold Russian online sports betting licenses but also operate internationally-licensed sites that offer casino, poker and other gambling products that remain illegal in Russia.

Betcity’s Russian-licensed site ranked fifth on the country’s 2018 online bookmaker web traffic report, while Parimatch (6th), Baltbet (7th) and Leon (8th) also scored above-average positions.
