Poker’s Grapevine suggests Ronnie Bardah will appear on Survivor

Poker’s rumour mill is turning, and the person strapped to the wheel is the World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Ronnie Bardah, who is allegedly appearing on CBS’s Survivor.

Poker and Reality TV shows go together like camels and deserts, and the next poker star hoping to suffer for a prolonged amount of time is Ronnie Bardah.

According to a tweet from Live at the Bike Producer’s Ryan Feldman, Bardah will appear on the 39th Season of Survivor.

’Sources confirmed,’ tweeted Feldman.

Live Tournament News: Yu wins The First Short-Deck Event at Triton Montenegro

Winfred Yu has won Event #3: HK$100,000 No-Limit Hold ’em Short-Deck after beating Isaac Haxton, heads-up, to claim the HK$2,040,000 (US$260,000) first prize.

Winfred Yu was at Triton’s Birth. He’s made four final tables, including two the last time the series was in Montenegro, but he had never turned one into a win until now.

It’s odder than a Triton player staying in the Holiday Inn to see a buy-in as low as HK$100,000 in this neck of the woods. That was the price for Event #3: HK$100,000 No-Limit Hold ’em Short-Deck, Ante-Only, and the organisers must have placed it on the menu as an apéritif for the No-Limit Hold’em disbelievers.

Winfred Yu is not one of those disbelievers.

BtoBet launches portfolio of advanced and tailored content for Africa

Ever increasing its foothold in Africa, BtoBet has launched a portfolio of dedicated content for the African market further presenting the local players with a more customized and tailored betting experience.

Speaking about the approach undertaken, BtoBet’s Chief Marketing Officer Sabrina Soldà stated that: “There is a general misconception that the challenges in Africa from a technological perspective should result in a below par experience for the player. This is clearly not the case, as has been repeatedly demonstrated by BtoBet, where the player is put at the centre of the whole experience.” The dedicated content which is released exclusively by BtoBet to its partners focus on multiple areas, including sports book, virtual sports, novelty bets, and casino.

“Through this portfolio of content BtoBet is providing a truly tailored experience to the player. We have already provided unique novelty bets to a number of our partners, whereby they are in a position to provide their players with bets characterized by a high level of unicity. In a particular example I could cite, a Nigerian partner requested to provide novelty bets tailored to feature the local elections that were held during the month of February. These novelty bets can obviously focus on an infinite list of events such as local high-profile talent contests and awards for instance.”

She also referred to the new dimension of sports betting through the special bets market, with the players provided with an endless choice of betting scenarios related to a sports event, such as whether a particular player will be sent off, whether it will rain during a particular match or even if a pitch invasion could occur.

The Stars Group inks US betting partnership with FOX Sports

Online gambling operator The Stars Group (TSG) has struck a major sports betting partnership with broadcaster Fox Sports, which is taking a 5% stake in the gambling group.

On Wednesday, TSG and broadcaster FOX Sports, a subsidiary of Fox Corporation, announced the imminent arrival of FOX Bet, a “first of its kind national media and sports wagering partnership in the United States.”

The plan is to launch a real-money betting app dubbed FOX Bet in states where such activity is legal. A second product, which will be available nationwide, will be a free-play game that awards users cash prizes for correctly predicting the outcomes of games.

The deal will grant TSG an exclusive 25-year license to use certain FOX Sports trademarks in “a range of immersive games and online sports wagering, and certain exclusive advertising and editorial integration rights on certain FOX Sports broadcast media and digital assets.”

Macau Legend says no links to brand-poaching gambling site

Casino operator Macau Legend Development Ltd (MLD) is warning consumers that it has no connection with online gambling, despite what one website appears to be claiming.

This week, MLD alerted the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that a website (vip.mclegend.ga) was offering the sale of lottery products while claiming to be operating in association with MLD. The site includes numerous MLD logos and trademarks, as well as photographs of several senior MLD execs, including founder/CEO David Chow Kam Fai and executive director Sheldon Trainor-Degirolamo.

MLD insists that it has nothing to do with the Gabon-registered website, nor has MLD ever operated any online lottery sites or products. MLD urged the public not to provide the site with any personal information and warned that MLD won’t be responsible for any financial losses incurred through interaction with the bogus website.

MLD is but the latest victim of scammers attempting to piggyback on the established brands of Macau gaming operators. Previous scams have targeted operators such as Las Vegas Sands, SJM Holdings, Wynn Macau and Galaxy Entertainment Group. Last November, Macau officials said they’d asked international web hosting companies to cut access to some 237 gambling sites making unauthorized use of Macau casino brands.

Italy’s sports betting market roars back to life in April

Italy’s sports betting market roared back to life in April after enduring a disappointing setback in March.

Figures compiled by Italy’s Agenzia della Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM) regulatory body show the country’s licensed sports betting operators generated revenue of €173.6m in April, up 18.5% from the same month last year and a welcome return to form following the 4.2% year-on-year decline the market reported in March.

Land-based wagering improved 11.6% to €98.1m while online betting revenue surged 28.8% to €75.5m. Local lads Goldbet claimed the biggest piece (15.1%) of the overall betting pie, with Snaitech (14.5%) and GVC Holdings’ Eurobet brand (13.5%) not far off the mark. Bet365 was the highest-ranking online-only operator, placing seventh overall with a 6.3% share.

Italy’s online casino licensees reported revenue of €67.4m in April, 16.1% higher than the same month last year. The Stars Group’s flagship PokerStars brand claimed the online casino crown with a 11.1% share, with Sisal (8%) and Lottomatica (7.6%) well back of the leader.

UK ad watchdog spanks Hills, Gamesys, Paddy Power promos

The UK gambling industry took a kicking Wednesday from the nation’s advertising watchdog, who deemed three different adverts to have broken its rules.

On Wednesday, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) published three rulings that went against gambling operators. Among these was the Gamesys ‘Monopoly Casino’ ad that the ASA determined was likely to have particular appeal to children, a ruling that leaked to the UK’s reliably anti-gambling media over the weekend.

The ASA also banned an ad for UK-listed gambling operator Paddy Power Betfair‘s Paddy Power brand that featured football icon Ryan Giggs’ brother Rhodri Giggs promoting the bookie’s rewards program. The ASA received five complaints regarding the ad’s alleged glamorization of gambling by suggesting it was a means of achieving a better standard of living.

The typically tongue-in-cheek promo featured Rhodri reflecting on his life of loyalty, including patronizing the same pub/gym/etc., only to declare that “loyalty gets you nowhere. Live for rewards instead.” Rhodri was then shown in a flash car, thanking Paddy Power and driving away, revealing a license plate that read ‘Ambassador Car.’
