Rocket League Season 9 moves online as Team Singularity take on Sandrock

With the world of Esports responding quickly to the world’s Coronavirus crisis, the Rocket League Season 9 World Championship is the latest event to move online.

Originally scheduled to take place in Dallas, Texas from April 24th-26th, the action will now all be online, and while fans who had booked ticket will be refunded, what they will really miss is the action.

Except they won’t, because the Rocket League Season 9 Championship will now be broadcast online, just as the RLCS and Rival Series will be. It’s all back to wherever you might live in Esports, and Rocket League is no different.

While the presenters are often hailed as ‘making the show’, the action won’t be missed, with streams of Esports still able to be broadcast. Live sports may have moved into the background while the world works on a vaccine to COVID-19, but the Esports leagues around the world will do their best to entertain us along the way.

Philippine gov’t: online gambling relaunch “not on the table”

Philippines -licensed online gambling operators are no closer to relaunching their sites after a government official said there’d been no change in official policy regarding COVID-19.

Earlier this week, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chair Andrea Domingo asked the government’s Interagency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases for authorization to restart certain ‘high-earning’ gambling options that were locked down last week to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

On Thursday, local media quoted Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles saying Domingo’s proposal to relaunch Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) and land-based VIP gambling rooms was “not on the table.” Nograles said POGOS remain prohibited and the IATF “have not discussed any other alternative whatever.”

Domingo had argued that allowing POGOs and junket-based VIP gambling – including telephone ‘proxy betting’ – to resume operations wouldn’t risk any significant COVID-19 exposure but would allow PAGCOR to regain 50-60% of its revenue capacity, which would in turn help fund the government’s anti-coronavirus efforts.

Nevada casinos enjoyed last month of action pre-virus shutdown

Nevada’s casinos may be shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but at least they had a decent sending-off party in February.

Figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) show statewide casino gaming revenue hitting $1.04b in February, just over 3% higher than the same month last year but essentially flat from January 2020’s result.

The statewide gains came despite casinos on the Las Vegas Strip reporting gaming revenue up only 0.75% to $596.2m and Clark County rising by only 0.54%. It was a different story outside the county, led by Reno’s casinos, which shot up over 30% to $57.8m.

Statewide slots had a good month, with revenue up 6.5% to $648.5m, while the ‘table, counter and card games’ segment fell 2.2% to $394.1m. Baccarat reported revenue falling 11.5% to $116.9m, but that was still enough to fend off blackjack ($104.3m, +8.3%) for top honors, while craps ($33.6m, -10.8%) and roulette ($33.4m, -4%) were both in the dumps. Poker enjoyed another surprisingly solid showing, rising 14.6% to just under $10.7m.
