Andrew Wilkie on political donations and the gaming industry

There are renewed calls for an overhaul of Australia’s political donation laws following revelations that gambling lobby groups donated tens of thousands of dollars to a political entity associated with Defence Minister Kevin Andrews. A spokesman says the money – from the Australian Hotels Association and Clubs New South Wales – did not influence the Coalition’s policy on poker machines, which Mr Andrews was in charge of when the donations were made prior to the 2013 election.
