Caesars Entertainment announces parking program for Las Vegas properties

New initiative will help ensure a convenient parking experience for all visitors while also improving infrastructure

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2016 — Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ: CZR) today announced that it will launch a paid valet and self-parking initiative intended to improve the parking experience for guests, local residents and Total Rewards loyalty program members at eight of its nine Las Vegas properties.  The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will not be included in this program and implementation dates will vary by location.

“Our priority is to ensure that our hotel guests, local residents and Total Rewards loyalty members have an improved parking experience,” said Bob Morse, President of Hospitality at Caesars Entertainment. “Guests who stay, game and shop at our resorts have said that parking spaces and valet services have become increasingly scarce, so we believe that implementing a paid parking program while also investing in LED parking guidance systems will help address these issues.”

Local residents with proper identification and Total Rewards loyalty members rated Platinum and above will continue to self-park for free. Complimentary valet will also be available for all Total Rewards loyalty members rated Platinum and above.

The Troy Quenneville factor: Optimal flow state or pure luck?

After Troy Quenneville wins $620,000 at the World Poker Tour Caribbean Main Event and the partypoker Millions, Lee Davy, asks a selection of poker pros their thoughts on flow.

Nobody remembers the runner-up.

So, when Niall Farrell locked up part two of the Triple Crown with victory at the partypoker sponsored World Poker Tour (WPT) Caribbean Main Event, I didn’t care who finished second.

A few days later, and I was scouring through social media, looking for something to write about, when I saw the name, Troy Quenneville. A bell was ringing.

Steve Miller and the team at ShareMyPair are offering players the opportunity to represent the brand in a selection process designed to reward talented players with a sponsorship deal.

Chicken Soup For The Soul co-creator, Jack Canfield, told me that I could do anything that I wanted to do. At the time, I was working as a manager in a rail freight company, and I had to admit, if I had been rubbing a lamp I wouldn’t have requested to be the best railwayman in the world.

At the time, I loved poker, so I rubbed my imaginary lamp and asked for a career playing cards. I think it was defective because I never did get to play cards. Instead, I ended up writing about other people playing cards.

But I didn’t complain.

Russian online bookies deny claims of customer data hacks

Russian bookmakers have been forced to publicly deny that their customers’ sensitive information has been hacked and offered for sale to the highest bidder.

The kerfuffle began last week when Dmitry Sergeyev, CEO of bookmaker Digital Betting, posted a note to his Facebook page saying one of the country’s largest bookmakers had been hacked and that the hackers were looking to sell the customer data, including hashed passwords, for 200 Bitcoin (US $146,500).

The hacked data also included answers to security questions. The Bookmaker-Ratings.ru affiliate site claimed this narrowed the field of possible operators to Marathon, Liga Stavok, Zenit, Parimatch and Olimp, with Marathon being the most likely candidate of this group to have a 1m strong database.

Marathon, which generally ranks second on Russian online bookmaker traffic reports, publicly refuted the suggestion that its systems had been hacked, issuing a statement stressing the strength of its online security protocols and assuring customers that they need not be alarmed as to the safety of their personal data.

Macau casino operators could set up shop in Coloane says government official

The casino business in Macau could extend to the island of Coloane according to a report in GGRAsia claiming a government official said public opinion would be taken into account if one of the big six casino operators applied for a casino license.

Casinos could start popping up throughout Coloane after Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong Vai Tac, gave a partial thumbs up during a debate on the Macau government’s 2017 policy address with the Legislative Assembly on Friday.

The secretary said that public opinion would be taken into account should one of the big six casino operators in Macau decide to open up shop on the tiny island.

The subject came up in connection with the building of The 13 Hotel on the Cotai/Coloane border, built and promoted by The 13 Holdings Ltd (formerly Louis XIII Holdings Ltd).

GBO International says “Go onshore”

In recent years it has become increasingly difficult for gaming companies to manage their financial and banking operations due to many new restrictions made by banks, payment companies and financial regulators around the world.

One of the outcomes of this is that gaming companies and even gaming affiliates are changing their legal structure and operations, while taking into consideration the new restrictions and options.

In this article we will see what is happening in the industry, what are the pros and cons for an offshore legal structure vs onshore and try to offer several solutions.

In the past there were no problems or difficulties for a gaming company operating online casino/betting/skill game/sports betting, etc. to open offshore corporate bank accounts in top countries in Europe. Countries such as Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, etc. welcomed gaming companies whether they were an operator, affiliate or marketing. Few questions were asked and there was no problem to accept and send direct wires to players.

Former Ku De Ta boss ordered to pay HK$2m costs to continue poker debt lawsuit

A Hong Kong judge has ordered Chris Au, the former boss of the Ku De Ta nightclub in Singapore, to pay HK$2m in security costs if he wants to continue his civil case against a friend who owes a poker debt.

You know the score. You are playing in a game, and the fish runs out of money. They don’t move out of their seat. Instead, their puppy dog eyes scan the table for any sign of kindness. And they get what they want; only it isn’t kindness. You make the loan because they are a fish. You think you will win more money. And then, you never see them again.

For many people, especially professional poker players, handing out loans is an integral part of the business. But what does happen when someone refuses to give you back what is rightfully yours? The only possible route is through the legal system, but it is fraught with danger, as a former nightclub owner from Singapore has just found out to the tune of HK$2 million ($258,000).

Sometime during 2008, Chris Au, the former boss of the Ku De Ta nightclub at the Marina Bay Sands area in Singapore, played in a regular home game with his associate Steve Yoon. Au alleges that Yoon lost HK$7.2 million ($928,000) to him, spread over 33 sessions. Au never received a cent and decided his only option was to sue him.

CTFE submits casino operator shortlist to run Baha Mar

Hong Kong-based conglomerate Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE) has submitted a formal plan to operate the unfinished $3.5b Baha Mar integrated resort in the Bahamas.

Last month, CTFE confirmed that it was in talks to buy Baha Mar from its principal creditor, the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM). On Monday, Bahamian government representatives confirmed receiving CTFE’s formal proposal last week and said the government was in the process of reviewing it.

The Bahamas Tribune quoted Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe saying CTFE’s proposal included a shortlist of casino firms that CTFE is considering for the job of running the property’s gaming operations. Wilchcombe said the government was now in the process of performing due diligence on CTFE’s suggested operators.

Wilchcombe declined to offer specifics on what names CTFE had submitted, but said CTFE was “going to pretty much follow what they’ve done in other jurisdictions where they have major casino operators from veterans in the industry.” Wilchcombe said the government was “looking at all the components, we have to take a look at what they do now.”

Nevada casinos enjoy double-digit gains in October

Nevada casinos had a far from frightful October, as gaming revenue enjoyed a double-digit rise from the same month last year.

Figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board show statewide casino gaming revenue of $887.5m in October, 11.2% higher than October 2015’s take. However, the figure failed to top the previous month’s $949m.

October’s figure was even higher on the Las Vegas Strip, which reported gaming revenue up 14% to $562.7m. While most of the major table game figures were all in positive territory, the overall numbers got a serious boost from slots revenue, which rose 10.4% to $631.6m.

Blackjack maintained its position as the top table earner, rising 18% year-on-year to $100.9m. Baccarat also had a good month, gaining 10.2% to $87.2m. Craps spoiled the party by falling 11.1% to $30.6m while roulette shot up nearly two-thirds to $30.3m.

Using the triple column technique to defeat negative self-talk at the poker table

Lee Davy takes a look at a Cognitive Behavioural Technique known as the Triple Column Method and sees how we can use it in poker.

Pete was married to Linda for 52-years when he decided to quit alcohol. It was a difficult decision. Alcohol was omnipresent. His family, his friends and Linda all thought that it was a daily part of their lives.

In the first week of sobriety, Linda was supportive. After a month, something bothered her about it. After two months, she turned to Pete and said, “I feel like I have lost my best friend.”

When I am not writing about poker, I try to help people like Pete and Linda. Their tale is a common one. Last night, while filming a podcast on the subject of quitting alcohol when your partner doesn’t, my guest, DeAnna Jordan, Clinical Director, New Method Wellness, suggested that Pete should take a look at something known as the Triple Column Method.

Ukie pushes reforms to make UK an eSports hub

UK Interactive Entertainment (Ukie) has called on the UK government to initiate reforms that could help make the country a global hub for eSports.

The group made the call on Monday as the group published a 20-page, eSports whitepaper, outlining industry opportunities, growth areas and recommendations to government. Ukie projected that the esports sector is set to be worth $1bn globally by 2019.

“ESports – and in particular live tournament events – offer huge opportunities across the UK in job creation, local economic growth, tourism, new skills development, and giving a clear signal to the world about our ambitions around technology, innovation and creativity. The aim of this whitepaper is to give some context of this global industry,” Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO of Ukie, said in a statement.

UK has the potential to become a global hub for eSports provided that the government will put up necessary measures that will nurture the industry’s growth in the country, according to Ukie.

The future of sports betting across Eastern Europe

This is a guest contribution by Darren Moore of Betting Gods Ltd. If you would like to submit a contribution please contact Bill Beatty for submission details. Thank you.

Legislation surrounding sports betting is changing all the time, and this is especially true in Eastern Europe. In this blog, we will take you on a whistle-stop tour of the region and see what each country has to offer.

The Baltic states

After initially only being open to domestic operators, the Gambling Act in Estonia has now led to international sports betting businesses joining the online market. In 2012, vital legislation was introduced, meaning that international operators are no longer required to have servers on Estonian soil. Now that the market is regulated, authorities in Estonia have begun to clamp down on unlicensed sports betting companies, including horse racing. Internet gaming licences are awarded by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board.

Ex-PokerStars payments director Paul Tate spared jail time

Former PokerStars exec Paul Tate has dodged jail time for his role in the events that precipitated the Black Friday online poker indictments.

On Monday, Tate appeared in a Manhattan federal court, where US District Judge Lewis Kaplan ordered Stars’ former payments director to forfeit $119k but spared Tate from having to spend any time behind bars.

Tate, one of 11 individuals indicted by the US Department of Justice on April 15, 2011, was facing up to five years in prison for helping PokerStars disguise online poker payments as non-gambling transactions to circumvent the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which prohibited US financial institutions from processing online gambling transactions.

But Kaplan took it easy on Tate due to the exec having willingly left the safety of the Isle of Man to return to US shores and face his accusers. The 42-year-old Tate appeared in the same court last month where he pled guilty to operating an illegal gambling business and claimed that he and his family had “paid a heavy price” for his actions.
