Mass. AG pushing for more regulations on casinos

Massachusetts’ top prosecutor, concerned that casinos could bring more criminal activity, has urged the state’s gambling overseers to strengthen regulations to combat money laundering, human trafficking and other illicit activities. Attorney General Maura Healey wants the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, which is meeting Thursday, to require casinos to file timely reports to the state about suspicious activity and large cash transactions and incorporate ”zero tolerance” language in employee and vendor contracts about trafficking in people and drugs.

Baker official scolds MBTA over land sale to Wynn

A top regulator in the Baker administration is accusing the MBTA of improperly rushing through the sale of T land that Wynn Resorts wants to use for the entrance to the $1.7 billion casino complex it plans to build in Everett. In an e-mail to representatives of the T and Wynn, Deirdre Buckley, director of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, said that last month’s $6 million sale of 1.75 acres violated state regulations.

PennLive: Pa. lottery spent $13,000 for executive's commute

An executive with the Pennsylvania Lottery charged the lottery for $13,150 for commuting expenses in an arrangement where he was allowed to be based in Pittsburgh and commute to the lottery’s Middletown headquarters, PennLive reports. The arrangement dates back to the lottery’s appointment of Eric Grubbs, a Pittsburgh resident, as the deputy executive for field operations in May. The lottery officials at the time relocated the position from lottery headquarters to its Pittsburgh office.

Winning $600,000 Lottery Ticket Sold at Horsham Wawa

The Cash 5 ticket, matching all five balls in Tuesday night’s drawing, was sold at the Wawa on Horsham Rd. The Pennsylvania Lottery announced that one jackpot-winning Cash 5 ticket from Tuesday night’s drawing was sold at Wawa in Horsham. The winner will receive $600,000, less 25-percent of federal taxes, for matching all five balls, 01-09-14-37-41.

Hollywood Casino owner slams plan to tax promotional credits

The promotional credits doled out by Ohio’s casinos and racinos to attract gamblers would be taxable under a Statehouse proposal that quickly garnered opposition from one of the state’s largest casino operators. Sen. Bill Coley, R-Liberty Township, wants Ohio to apply its 33 percent gaming tax rate to free play, arguing the state’s 11 gambling facilities have fallen short of revenue promises made in 2009.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent populist who may challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, said Tuesday in Las Vegas that if he runs it will be to take on “the billionaire class” that’s getting richer while America’s middle class is in decline, with more people living in poverty. “Not only are we not winning the fight, we are losing the fight,” the Vermont senator said in a fist-pumping speech at a packed Culinary Local 226 union hall where workers cheered him on.
