Illinois lottery imposes new budget-driven payment delays on prizes Wednesday, October 14

The cash-starved Illinois lottery lowered the boom even harder on its players on Wednesday, saying anyone with a winning ticket worth $600 or more will face delays collecting prizes until the state’s long-running budget impasse ends. Since July, the state has not been making timely payments to players who have won $25,000 or more, triggering a class-action lawsuit in federal court last month against Republican Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration.

Disused site in Kingsley set to return to life as a sports centre for youths following Lottery grant

Cheadle SMU Football Club has secured a grant of A 69,861 from the National Lottery, Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund, to renovate the former Kingsley Youth and Community Centre and adjoining pitch. The site has fallen in to disuse during recent years and the club now plans to refurbish the building to create a base for the football club as well as a site for indoor and outdoor sports and other social activities.

Two arrested in Garden City for lottery ticket scam

Garden City Police arrested two men last week for altering lottery tickets and stealing approximately $1,000 from the Pilot Travel Center on Dean Forest Road. Jose Carlos Carrillo, 20, and Edwin Steven Chicas, 18, were arrested Friday afternoon and charged with altering and forgering lottery tickets, according to Garden City Detective Armando Villegas.
