Gov. Bentley lays out special session plan; lottery off the table

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced his plans for the upcoming Special Session Friday in which he said he was putting several things on the table for legislators to consider including business taxes, tobacco and soft drink taxes, and elimination of the FICA deduction. Gaming and lottery discussion is off the table, Bentley stated.

Inmate Sentenced for Murder-for-Hire Plot

A judge has sentenced a Wyoming State Penitentiary inmate to serve 35 years in prison for trying to hire a hit man to kill his own mother and stepfather so he could collect life insurance money and inherit their house. U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal of Cheyenne on Thursday sentenced 23-year-old Andrew Silicani on four counts of using the mail in his unsuccessful attempt to commission the murders.

Winning Lottery Ticket Sold at Dundee Pharmacy in Northbrook

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased at Dundee Pharmacy, 2750 Dundee Road, and matched all five numbers – 09 – 10 – 29 – 32 – 41 – to win the prize, according to lottery officials. The retailer will receive a bonus of $3,500, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket.

Lottery sales keep growing, hitting record year again

The Ohio Lottery had a boom year, hitting a record $3.6 billion in sales and funneling $990 million to K-12 education. The Ohio Lottery Commission today released figures for the state fiscal year ending June 30. The total, including all lottery games and a share of proceeds added from two new racinos that opened during the year, jumped $483 million compared to the 2014 fiscal year.

Lottery operator Ithuba would continue to run the popular numbers game while government reconsidered the awarding of the licence agreement, deputy trade and industry minister Mzwandile Masina said on Thursday. The high court in Pretoria found trade and industry minister Rob Davies’ decision to conclude an agreement with Ithuba for the third National Lottery License was unlawful.

OSF Receives $2 Million from State Lottery Fund

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, currently celebrating 80 years, received $2 million from the State Lottery Fund to improve the aging infrastructure of OSF’s two oldest and largest theatres and its landmark public courtyard. OSF is one of four arts organizations to receive funding, thanks to the efforts of the Cultural Advocacy Coalition.
