Lottery revenues for the fiscal year ending June 30 are up $180 million over last year, reaching a record $5.58 billion, with two-thirds of that money via scratch-offs. The state sold $3.7 billion in scratch-off tickets this year, compared with $3.4 billion in 2013-14.

RALEIGH A $5 lottery ticket brought a fun kind of “mayhem” to the home of a Jacksonville family on Tuesday night when the mother, Carol Person, discovered it was worth $150,000.

Marty Peck of Benton City said he was still in a morning fog on June 23 when he saw a $120,000 Hit 5 win flash on the Lottery machine. He purchased his ticket from Just A Minute Mart in Benton City, and said he had to look twice when the winner notification popped up on the screen.
