Will Warriors beat Lakers’s 33-game win streak?

The Golden State Warriors has crossed out the “best start in NBA history” off their to-do list, next goal: the Los Angeles Lakers’ 33-game win streak.

The Warriors began the 2015-16 NBA regular season with an unprecedented 16 straight wins, surpassing Houston Rockets and Washington Capitals’ 15-0 record. That is just after the fact that they just won the franchise’s first NBA title in 40 seasons.

On Sunday, the team’s 112-109 victory over the Toronto Raptors broke another record for the best start to a season by a professional sports team. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Warriors’ 21-0 record moved the team past the St. Louis Maroons of Union Association, a league in Major League Baseball.

The Warriors undefeated run continued as it beat Indiana Pacers 131-123 on Tuesday, pushing its winning streak to 23-0 this season.

Premier League Week 15 Review: Mounting Pressure on Monk and Mourinho

Garry Monk and Jose Mourinho continue to feel the heat, as their sides lose further ground in the Premier League respectability race after another set of poor performances.

There are days when I think the Premier League is complete and utter pants. Not this weekend. This weekend it gave me that ‘Best League in the World’ feeling. It’s not about the entertainment for me. It’s about the unpredictability. It was back to its best this weekend.

Who will win the league?

Who will finish in the top four?

The Morbid State of the NFL Quarterback Is Only Getting Worse

There’s been talk lately about Matt Ryan’s job security. I guess people are just sick and tired of watching a guy be middle-of-the pack. The Falcons are a collective 14-27 SU in their last three seasons since losing in the 2012 NFC Championship game to San Francisco. They’ve missed the playoffs in all three of those years. You can probably point fingers at Ryan as much as the coaching, or the makeup of the team, or whatever else you want to. At some point, Ryan has to assume a stiff portion of the blame.

The Falcons would only consider cutting Matt Ryan if they thought he wasn’t worth the $50+ million they owe him over the next three years. The Dolphins could do the same with Tannehill at the end of 2016 to alleviate themselves of a quarterback who can’t seem to play consistently, and is owed nearly $30 million after next season.

How do you know when to cut the cord with a quarterback? Are our standards too high for them? Do we expect too much out of them?

More importantly, if you cut a guy like Matt Ryan to save $50 million down the road, who exactly are you going to replace him with?

Sportsbet urges govt to regulate online in-play betting

Australian betting operator Sportsbet calls on legalizing online in-play betting to keep Aussie punters from black market.

In a submission to the Barry O’Farrell-led review of Australian online betting laws, Paddy Power-owned Sportsbet has urged the government to allow licensed Australian bookmarkers to offer online live-sports betting. The company suggested that the inability of the local operators to offer the product pushes more punters onto the international “black market.”

“In a real sense the IGA is ‘analogue’ legislation ill-suited and ill-equipped to deal with the digital age,” said Sportsbet. “Consumers now expect to be able to wager on their mobile devices and over the internet but Australian licensed wagering service providers cannot legally provide this in-play product.”

Sportsbet has also estimated that up to AUD2.2 billion ($1.6 billion) tax revenue could be lost by 2020.

Alleged match-fixer Dan Tan is back in prison

Dan Tan, also known as Tan Seet Eng, was arrested on Tuesday for “a suspected involvement in criminal activities”, confirmed Singapore police.

The police did not give further details about his arrest and Tan’s lawyers Thong Chee Kun and Hamidul Haq said they were still trying to find the legal basis for the police’s action to re-arrest him.

The arrest followed the Singapore Court of Appeal’s decision to release Tan after more than two years of detention for allegedly match-fixing football games across Europe, Egypt, South Africa, and Nigeria. Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, along with two other judges, ruled that the detention was unlawful and there was nothing to suggest that Tan’s alleged overseas match-fixing activities jeopardized public safety, peace and good order in Singapore.

Dubbed by Interpol as “the leader of the world’s most notorious match-fixing syndicate,” Tan was arrested in 2013 along with 13 other suspects and has been detained without trial under the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act (CLTPA).

Ladbrokes ink first German football deal; Bet-at-home give up on tennis

UK bookmakers Ladbrokes have signed an advertising deal with German football club SV Werder Bremen, marking the betting company’s first deal with the country’s top football league.

The deal only became news after Ladbrokes signage appeared on LED perimeter boards at the team’s home field of Weserstadion during Saturday’s match against Hamburger SV.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but Sponsors.de reported that the pact extends through the current Bundesliga season. Team GM Klaus Filbry said he was pleased to have Lads on board but would wait to see if the relationship blossoms into a lasting partnership.

Bremen had a longstanding sponsorship arrangement with German sports betting operator Tipico, but that three-year deal expired this summer, paving the way for Ladbrokes to swoop in with a Whitman’s sampler and (presumably) a fat check. Germany is a top international market for Ladbrokes, which was one of the 20 recipients of a German online sports betting license last year, although that distinction has since been rendered more or less moot.

Premier League Week 14 Review: 11 in a Row For Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy creates a new Premier League goalscoring record after scoring in his 11th consecutive game at home to Man Utd; Diego Costa thinks throwing a training bib at Jose Mourinho will get him back into the side, and much more.

There is nothing very Machiavellian about the Leicester City approach. Soak up the pressure, allow their opponents to control the football, and then hit them on the break.

The Foxes style of football was summed up in a single flow that turned Jamie Vardy into a young man who makes headlines by shouting out racist remarks in casinos, to a Premier League record-breaker.

Christian Fuchs ran down the right flank, something that the turgid Matteo Darmian seems utterly incapable of, and thread the ball through the eye of a needle, for Jamie Vardy to leave Ashley Young in his wake and calmly slot the ball past the onrushing David De Gea.

2015 FIFPro World XI: Rooney, Terry & Bale Only Brits to Make Short List

FIFPro has announced a 55 player shortlist for the 2015 FIFPro World XI and Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Gareth Bale are the only British-born players that make the cut.

As I watched Jamie Vardy make Ashley Young look like a mug before slotting the ball past David De Gea to score a record breaking 11 consecutive times in the Premier League, I felt a stifled sense of English pride.

It’s a feeling that comes along as often as the breaking of dry twigs in a Floridian swamp. I felt it in 1990 before Stuart Pearce, and Chris Waddle made me feel like a part of me was missing, and I felt it in 1996 when it was Gareth Southgate’s turn to make me cry.

The English national side may have qualified for Euro 2016 with the only 100% record in the competition. Our game may be bristling with youth and vitality. But it’s not a view shared by the rest of the world.

Twisted fighter Natalie Gonzales Hills Talks About Great Experience with ONE

This is a guest contribution by Carlos Cinco. If you would like to submit a contribution please contact Bill Beatty for submission details. Thank you.

Female mixed martial artist Natalie Gonzales Hills, also known as “The Kilapino”, debuted for ONE Championship last Friday, November 13 at ONE: Pride of Lions, but her first time inside the ONE Cage didn’t exactly go as she had planned.

Hills was caught in one of the rarest submission maneuvers in professional mixed martial arts by opponent Angela Lee, who is quickly gaining a reputation as a grappling ace. Lee forced Hills to tap out from a ‘Twister’, a move that has only been executed a handful of times in MMA.

Despite being on the wrong end of a highlight reel finish, Hills was able to give fans a glimpse of her potential as she dominated Lee in the stand-up.

UK bookmakers and racing square off in game of sponsorship chicken

UK-licensed online betting operator Betway has signed on as new sponsor of the Davis Cup and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas tennis tournaments.

On Wednesday, the International Tennis Federation announced Betway would serve as international sponsor for both events through 2018. Having already begun promoting its wares at the recent Fed Cup final in Prague, Betway will enjoy prominent courtside branding at this weekend’s Davis Cup final in Ghent, Belgium.

In other sponsorship news, UK-listed betting operator Betfair has been confirmed as the new headline sponsor of the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park Racecourse. Betfair’s bounty came at the expense of UK rival 888 Holdings, whose 888Sport division was the previous sponsor of the event, and the switcheroo marks the first casualty in the rapidly escalating feud between betting and racing.

Last month, the UK’s two biggest racing groups and the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced a plan to limit sponsorship opportunities to betting operators who met the BHA’s demands for financial contributions to racing. Such companies would be considered an Authorized Betting Partner (ABP). Betfair have met the criteria to become an ABP; 888 have not.

Under the deal, Oulala Games Ltd. has created a Leicester City branded version of the game, which was launched on Oulala.com ahead of Leicester–Newcastle United game on November 21st. The partnership will provide the fantasy sports site with extensive exposure within Leicester City’s stadium and the team’s website LCFC.com, the club’s digital channels and within match day programs.

“This partnership is symbolic for Oulala. Leicester City has been able to do great things, and the club has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season. We believe there are a number of synergies between their business and ours, and that we share many of the same values,” Valery Bollier, CEO of Oulala Games. “Oulala is proud to be partnering with such an efficient, forward thinking organisation, one which we believe will continue to go from strength to strength.”

“We’re delighted to partner with Oulala to bring supporters a new way to game here at Leicester City.
