Italian cops arrest 50 over Italian football leagues match-fixing

Italian police anti-corruption unit detained 50 people, including team managers, players and a suspected Calabrian mobster, on Tuesday for allegedly fixing dozens of matches in Italian football’s third tier professional league, Lega Pro.

“The probe demonstrates there was a heinous pact of corruption in the world of soccer,” said Andrea Grassi, investigator from Italian anti-mafia police unit. “It shows the interest of criminal networks in the business generated by soccer and the legal betting industry.”

According to a police official, the investigation began when police tapped the telephone of a member of the Lannazzo mob family in Calabria and discovered that he was arranging matches to make money by betting on them.

Investigators suspect Serie B, Lega Pro and Serie D matches from the 2014-15 season were fixed.  Investigators said there were two different criminal gangs, one to set up the games in Lega Pro and the other those in Serie D.

Kangwon Land a Q1 star; plan to let locals gamble in cruise casinos in doubt

South Korean casino Kangwon Land generated higher revenue and even bigger profits in Q1.

Total revenue in the first three months of 2015 was up 14% to a record KRW 425.4b (US $388.4m). Of this, 93% came from gaming, which rose 15% to KRW 96b while non-gaming revenue inched up 4.4% to KRW 29.7b. Net profit rose 24.9% to KRW 132.2b ($120.7m).

Raising For Effective Giving Release Q1 Results: More Help Needed

Raising for Effective Giving has released their Q1 2015 financial numbers, and it shows there is still a lot of work to do with respect to attracting the interest of the poker community.

Raising for Effective Giving (REG), the non-profit organization founded by Liv Boeree, Philipp Gruissem, and Igor Kurganov has released their Q1 2015 results.

There were 26 new sign ups during the quarter, taking the total number of REG members up to 127. The total amount received from donors was $56,985. That amount is much lower than the $369,053 donated in Q4 2014, but $250,000 of that came courtesy of REG member, Martin Jacobson’s, success in the 2014 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. A more reasoned comparison shows an increase on the $38,873 donated in Q3 2014.

It’s been a great 12-months for REG. Martin Jacobson’s victory has helped saved the lives of so many people/animals; their work was honored at the Global Poker Index (GPI) European Poker Awards (EPA) when they won the Charitable Initiative of the Year award; they appointed a new Director of Communications in Ruairi Donnelly, and teamed up with Leon Tsoukernik’s Kings Casino, in a move that will see a series of events created to provide REG with additional funding.
