Global Poker League: Why I Support The Hong Kong Stars

Lee Davy shares his views on why he will be supporting the Hong Kong Stars when the Global Poker League kicks off in earnest April 15.

When I was 6-years old, a school kid called me a Chink. It was a recurring theme. I cried all the way home and asked my mum if any of our relatives were Chinese.

“Sit down, Lee. I have something to tell you.”

My old man was not my biological father. Instead, he was some guy I had never met, who ran off when I was the size of a lime. My biological father was from Hong Kong.

Johan Cruyff Dies of Cancer Age 68

Former Ajax and Barcelona star Johan Cruyff has died of lung cancer aged 68. Cruyff was the first player to win the Ballon d’Or three times, and the first manager to lead Barcelona to European glory in 1992.

Tonight, when I take charge of my son’s U16 football training, I will sit them down and talk about Johan Cruyff. Fortunately, thanks to the role the FIFA franchise plays in our children’s lives they will know who he is. What they won’t know is how great he was, the foundation he laid to allow the likes of Lionel Messi to flourish at Barcelona, or the role that cigarettes had in his life. Today, Johan Cruyff died of lung cancer. He was only 68-years of age.

The words will go in one ear and out of the other. The impact I hope to make in their young lives will vanish. Then I will stand on the touchline and watch as they perform Cruyff turns like they are turning on a tap, and I will understand the real legacy of an impact from one of the true legends of the game.

Cruyff was one of the greatest footballers ever to lace up a pair of boots. He played for seven clubs throughout a career spanning two decades. The first two were his home. He played for Ajax 240 times scoring 190 goals. He won three consecutive European Cups with the Dutch side from 1971.

New York Online Poker Mentioned in Budget Construction

The $154 billion New York budget proposal contains the possibility that online poker could be legalised and regulated to bring more money into the coffers of the state.

Will New York legalise online poker?

I’m not sure about that, but the paperwork that will ultimately force the state to see sense is still causing paper cuts throughout the halls of political power in the Big Apple.

Senators and Assemblymen who support the legalisation and regulation of online poker have been throwing bills at archaic institutions with more frequency than Phil Taylor throws his darts at that sliver of red.

China busts online gambling fraudsters that used Macau casino trademarks

Chinese authorities have revealed that their recent cross-border busts in Cambodia helped take down a ring of online gambling sites infringing on Macau casino trademarks.

On Wednesday, Chinese media reported that police in Guangdong province had detained 218 suspects for their involvement in a wide-ranging online gambling operation that allegedly netted the suspects RMB 140m (US $21.5m) from over 1,000 customers on the Chinese mainland.

The gambling sites’ servers were based in Poipet, Cambodia, where local police cooperated with Chinese authorities in the arrests earlier this month of dozens of Chinese nationals accused of running an online extortion scam from hotel rooms at the Golden Crown Casino.

Most of the 218 suspects – including 38 deported from Cambodia – were said to be from Fujian province and were wanted in connection with illegal gambling sites and the online transfer of money obtained via fraudulent means.

Anger as five-number Lotto punters win just 15

Lotto ticketholders with five numbers in Wednesday’s draw were left frustrated after they won less money than those who matched only three. This was compared to the 7,879 ticketholders with four numbers who won A 51, while the 114,232 people who matched just three balls won A 25. Some Lotto players vented their frustration on Twitter about the unusual situation, which can arise when there are a large number of lower prize winners because the minimum win is set at A 25. Leon Howell tweeted: “So getting 5 numbers in the national lottery tonight bagged you A 15 but 3 numbers got you A 25……thenationallotteryrobbery.”
