Premier League Review Week 34: Villa Relegated, Vardy Off, and More

In this week’s Premier League review we lose the first team to the Championship after Aston Villa’s defeat away at Man Utd, and referee Jonathan Moss steals the show at the King Power after sending Jamie Vardy off in controversial circumstances.

Aston Villa’s 28-year stay in the Premier League is over after losing by a goal to nil at Old Trafford. Only Everton has played in the top flight for longer than the West Midlands side. They hurtle into the Championship like a paving slab. They will lose out on £100m in television money. They don’t even have a manager.

There must have been a few poor decisions for a team to be relegated so early in the system, but three stand out like a sore thumb. The sale of Fabian Delph to man City, and Christian Benteke to Liverpool, coupled with the sacking of Tim Sherwood left behind a team without an engine, steering wheel and no fuel. Quite what the board was thinking when they hired the charming Remi Garde is beyond rational thought. Perhaps, they got what they deserved?

It was Man United’s fifth home in on the trot without conceding a goal. Once again the result will spray a fake mist over another mediocre performance. Once again it was Marcus Rashford who was the difference scoring with a sublime finish in the 32nd minute. It was the 18-year olds seventh goal in 12 games since Louis Van Gaal found him kicking the ball about in the youth side.

Change.org Petition Created to Remove WSOP Main Event Rake and Introduce Revenue Share Model

An investment banker has created a petition on Change.org urging World Series of Poker officials to remove the rake on their $10,000 Main Event, and create revenue sharing models for other tournaments.

In 2012, teenager Trayvon Benjamin Martin was shot and killed by neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in Sanford Florida. Zimmerman wasn’t even charged by police as they believed there was no evidence to refute his claim of self-defense. He was later charged with murder after over 2.2 million people signed a petition on Change.org started by Martin’s parents.

Change.org was created in 2007 as an outlet for people to drive the change they would like to see in the world. It allowed Martin’s parents to find a voice, and over the weekend, it has been used to put pressure on the World Series of Poker (WSOP) to end rake in the Main Event.

I’m not quite sure how to translate the sound of a needle dragged across vinyl, so please don’t judge me.

Unibet join Aussie online in-play party; Emu Casino domain ownership fraud?

Online betting operator Unibet’s Australian division has become the latest to launch a law-flaunting in-play sports betting product.

The Australian website of the Malta-based Unibet recently trumpeted the fact that punters can now take advantage of its “NEW LIVE BETTING!” offering, which is currently available for Chrome and Firefox browsers but the site promises the function will be “arriving soon on the Unibet App.”

Unibet’s voice-activated live-betting system mimics the smartphone apps launched by bookmakers William Hill, Ladbrokes, Bet365 and Sportsbet, despite lingering questions over the legality of such systems under Australia’s 2001 Interactive Gambling Act (IGA), which allows remote in-play wagering only via the telephone.

The Australian government is sitting on a report detailing its review of the IGA, which includes whether or not the government should relax the online in-play prohibition. But Australia is expected to face a federal election later this year and the government is reportedly not keen on appearing to be expanding gambling options given that polls have shown it’s a vote-loser.
