New gaming jurisdiction opens in Philippines

A new gaming jurisdiction is looking to attract online gaming operators—and possibly, land-based casinos—to the northern part of the Philippines.

The gaming jurisdiction is located within the 12,500-hectare Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) in the town of Casiguran in Aurora. The zone is about 270 kilometers away from the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), where master licensor First Cagayan Leisure and Resort Corporation is allowed to issue both online and land-based licenses.

Pacific Seaboard Leisure and Entertainment Corporation is the exclusive master licensor for the new body for the next 25 years, according to a GGRAsia report.

The gaming jurisdiction plans to focus first on issuing online gambling licenses—using a license fee structure similar to CEZA—to bring operators to the Aurora, which is considered to be an underdeveloped part of Luzon, before turning its attention to brick-and-mortar casinos.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals: Raptors even up East Finals against Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered back-to-back loss on Monday against the Toronto Raptors in Eastern Conference Finals.

DeMar DeRozan had 32 points and DeMarre Carroll chipped in with 11 points. Bismack Biyombo added 6 points but pulled down 14 rebounds.

Toronto dominated three quarters and then thwarted a near-perfect quarter by Cleveland. Cleveland captured the lead in the third and fourth quarter, but Toronto still beat them.

Gold Moon Group closes Wynn Macau VIP room as junket shrinkage continues

Macau junket operator Gold Moon Group has closed its remaining VIP gaming operations at Wynn Macau.

Earlier this month, Macau casino workers’ union Forefront of Macau Gaming (FMG) used its social media channels to relay an internal communication from the junket operator informing staff that the shutdown would take effect on May 21.

Gold Moon told staff that the shutdown came at Wynn Macau’s request “despite rounds of negotiations.” Gold Moon put the blame on “the impact of the overall economic environment,” reflecting the fact that Macau will likely soon report its 24th straight month of declining gaming revenue, and the bulk of the pain has been borne on the VIP side.

The Wynn Macau exit follows Gold Moon’s closure of its VIP operations at Sands China’s Sands Cotai Central in January 2015. At the time, Gold Moon said it operated 12 VIP tables at Wynn Macau.

Federal Deputy Nelson Marquezelli to offer the latest on Brazil’s gambling bill at Juegos Miami

Juegos Miami adds BgC Briefing to its agenda to report on the findings emerging from the 2nd Brazilian Gaming Congress that just concluded on May 12 in Brasilia.

Federal Deputy Nelson Marquezelli is one of the key political figures involved in the current legislative process that might see gambling legalised in Brazil by the end of the year. The bill, that authorises a creation of 31 integrated resorts with casinos and a number of bingo halls in the country, has been making steady progress in the Senate’s Gaming Commission set up at the end of 2015, and is expected to end up on the new president’s, Michel Temer’s, desk by October. According to the people close to the president, he is in favour of a quick passage of the bill to aid Brazil’s volatile economy without taxing the citizens directly. Recent statements, made by his two ministers, Henrique Eduardo Alves (Tourism) e Geddel Vieira Lima (Government Secretary), support that belief.

Marquezelli, together with other prominent deputies, including Elmar Nascimento, Herculano Passos, Antonio Goulart and C?sar Halun, participated in the recent Brazilian Gaming Congress held in Brasilia on May 11-12. The event gathered around 230 attendees who heard promising political statements in fierce support of gambling legalisation. It is no surprise, considering the size of the potential business opportunity should Brazil authorise gambling, that the eyes of the gaming industry interested in Latin America are now turning towards this promising country. To provide the latest on the legislative and political process, timelines and key institutions involved, Juegos Miami, an event that will gather all of the key organisations doing business in Latin America and produced by Clarion Events, organiser of BgC, will host a briefing, featuring some of the key BgC speakers and participants. Leading the session will be Igor Federal Trafane, President, Brazilian Texas Hold’em Confederation, joined by Deputy Nelson Marquezelli, Parliament Ombudsman Osmar Lopes de Moraes, Magnho Jose de Souza, President of the Legal Gaming Institute and Luiz Felipe Maia, Director, Franco, Yoshiyasu, Maia, Simoes and D’Alession Advogados.

‘The current gambling bill that I champion in Brazil is aimed at bringing sustainable investment to Brazil and I strongly believe that integrated resorts and casinos can deliver substantial revenue to the country. By coming to Juegos Miami, I want to let the gaming industry know that we are serious in our efforts to legalise gambling and will be soon open for business’, Deputy Marquezelli commented on his decision to join the Juegos Miami speaker line-up.

Compare Free Casino providing in-depth app reviews for informed decisions

Having launched earlier this year, the Compare Free Casino tool is designed to help players find the best possible casino provider based on an extensive set of filters. Whether the potential account holder is looking for free play, high welcome bonuses or a choice of slots or live dealer options, the filter system tailors the perfect provider towards the player’s individual needs.

But the comparison site has also recognised the increase in mobile play and the need for efficient apps; as a result, there is a comprehensive section providing over 220 app reviews and it’s an area that continues to build.

“Whether it’s apps or mobile sites the use of mobile for online gambling is definitely on the rise. This makes it very important that mobile casinos are featured on the site,” explained Compare Free Casino’s David Archer.

Each site is tested extensively before the review makes it to the web page.

ThePOGG Relaunches: Quality Design to Match Quality Content

ThePOGG.com is proud to announce the relaunch of its website. Following on from ThePOGG.com’s recent accreditation as an ADR by the UKGC and the expansion of ThePOGG network to include POGGStrategies and POGGWebmasters comes the relaunch of the original site.  With an increased emphasis on user experience, particularly for mobile users, the new site continues to offer a high quality complaints resolution service which has been expanded to address affiliate complaints through the introduction of POGGWebmasters.

The new site is far more intuitive for users and this together with the decrease in page loading times ensures optimum user experience.  The site design itself is fresh, current and innovative; its goals to let players know about all the services offered and to highlight that ThePOGG is ultimately there for their protection. Now players will find it easier to locate our quality casino reviews, submit a casino complaint, or use our forums to discuss anything related to gambling.

“I’ve long felt that the design of ThePOGG.com failed to effectively convey the strength and quality of the content we were publishing and left us looking like one of the crowd rather than leaders within our field. The new design that John Wright has put together far more effectively showcases the unique approach to affiliate marketing we’ve taken and offers users a significantly improved experience. It’s been a long time in coming, but the design of the site now lives up to the high standards set by our content and services.” Duncan Garvie – Manager and ADR Official for ThePOGG.com

“I strongly feel that ThePOGG.com is one of the more important casino portals online. I know the quality of reviews, complaints, fairness reports and audits are some of the best around and I wanted to ensure the design relayed the quality of work put in. Although the content and value remains just as strong as it was before, the new design is a big step in the growth of ThePOGG. As much as the site aims to be a valuable resource for players, I find it to be equally valuable to affiliates.”  John Wright – Gaffg.com

Atlantic City casino profits spike as city reaches fiscal rescue deal with state

Atlantic City got a double shot of good news on Monday, as first quarter casino profit numbers were up nearly one-third and the city finally agreed to terms with the state on a financial rescue package.

According to figures released Monday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), AC’s eight remaining casino operators reported total revenue of $802.6m in the three months ending March 31, a 2.7% improvement over the same period last year.

The revenue numbers were similarly positive when broken down by gaming ($583m, +3.5%), rooms ($88.5m, +2.6%) and entertainment ($32.8m, +1.5%). Only food and beverage spoiled the party, falling 1.6% to $98.3m. Hotel occupancy rose one point to 73.8%.

All but one of the eight casinos reported an operating profit in Q1, led by perennial frontrunner the Borgata at $47.7m (+24%), nearly twice that of its closest competitor Harrah’s ($26.8m, -3.1%). Only the Trump Taj Mahal was in negative territory, losing $4.6m, although that’s better than the $8.7m the property lost in Q1 2015. Collectively, the eight casinos posted a profit of $105.6m, up 31% year-on-year.
