Ex-Essel executive punts on seat at India’s Upper House of Parliament

The former chairman of multi-billion dollar business conglomerate Essel Group is eyeing to enter the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, local media outlets reported.

Dr. Subhash Chandra is reportedly planning to file his nomination for the parliament, locally known as Rajya Sabha, as an independent candidate from Haryana ahead of the elections on June 11, according to DNA India.

Chandra may be running independently, but media outlets said the man has the support of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and some other regional parties.

Chandra stepped down from his post as director and non-executive chairman of Zee Media last May 24. Zee Media is a company under Essel Group, which runs government operated lotteries in some Indian states under the Playwin brand name. Essel Group didn’t give a reason why Chandra resigned from his post.

Cantona & Deschamps Pre Euro 2016 Clash

Eric Cantona could face legal action from the French National Manager, Didier Deschamps after allegations that the former Man Utd legend suggested that race was the reason behind Karim Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa’s omission from the Euro 2016 squad.

If France is going to win the 2016 European Championships, they will do so with one of their primary weapons sitting at home watching the action on the idiot box.

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has not made the cut for the Euro 2016 squad, and his absence has annoyed a certain Eric Cantona. Speaking to The Guardian amidst his 50th birthday celebrations the mercurial Frenchman believes the decision to leave Benzema at home, and only include Hatem Ben Arfa on the reserve list is a mistake, and his wording around reasoning has been tied in with the race card.

Speaking to The Guardian Canton likened the Deschamps family to the ‘Mormons in America’ and during an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche talked about the ‘disorder and division’ in the world, and how he wished for ‘all of France to be represented in the France team.’ He continued by stating France had an opportunity to ‘send a clear message to extremists’.

The eSports Betting Summit: How to Build a Better Brand That Appeals to eSports Fans

Lee Davy continues his birds eye view of the panel activity at the recent eSports Betting Summit held at The Royal Garden Hotel in London, this time, covering how to build a better brand that appeals to eSports fans.

You rise from the pit, head into work via a coffee house, and the boss sits you down to explain that a new sport has turned up out of the blue. Millions of people love it. They spend all of their pocket money betting on virtual knives, guns, and combat gear.

“It’s going to earn over a billion dollars in revenue by the end of 2019.” Says your boss. “I want those customers. Go and get them.”

The first feeling is one of dread; one that fires fear down your throat. And then you bump into Harry Lang, Director of Marketing, for Pinnacle Sports, at an eSports Betting Summit in High Street Kensington, and you start to feel excitement wandering through those veins.

Russia rejects bitcoin, but wants to invent digital currency knockoff

And the bitcoin plot thickens.

It has been widely reported that Russia, particularly the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, is hell bent on totally outlawing digital currency and anyone who deals in it in the country. But a recent report has revealed that the government is considering the possibility of replacing bitcoin with its own knockoff virtual currency.

Last week, Russian-language newspaper Kommersant reported that the government is planning to introduce a “national regulated cryptocurrency” in place of bitcoin.

The news outlet cited Paul Livadniy, deputy director of the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring), who said the idea of introducing cryptocurrency is already being discussed with representatives of banks at the meetings in the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.

Macau 2016 Q1 GDP sinks to 13.3% but hope for economic recovery floats

Macau’s economy shrank by 13.3 percent in the first quarter of 2016, dragged down by continued decrease in exports of services due to lower gaming revenue and tourism industry weakness as a result of China’s anti-corruption drive and economic slowdown.

The latest data released by the city’s Statistics and Census Service DSEC, last Monday was rather a good news for China’s beleaguered gambling hub, which marked the seventh straight quarter of economic contraction and saw its sovereign debt status downgraded by Moody’s Investor Service several days ago.

Statistics suggests that Macau is on track to economic recovery after hitting rock bottom in the second quarter of 2015 when it posted a contraction of 26.4 percent. Macau’s 13.3 percent contraction in the first quarter of 2016 is also an improvement from the 2015 fourth quarter GDP fall of 14.4 percent.

External demand showed no sign of improvement as exports of goods and services fell by 24.6 percent and 13.7 percent respectively. Gaming services in Macau, which were equivalent to more than 52 percent of Macau’s GDP at current prices, are included in exports when calculating the city’s GDP.

Belle Corporation paints a rosy picture for City of Dreams in 2016

Leisure estate and gaming firm Belle Corporation remains bullish that it will continue to enjoy positive revenues in 2016 despite the bleak regional forecast for the gaming industry in Asia and stiff competition from other Manila-based casinos.

The Philippine Star reported that the City of Dreams Manila is expected to buck the downward gaming revenue trend in Asia, as it relies on the benefits of gaming promotions and full-year operations.

Belle’s vice chairman Willy Ocier did not give an exact figure or revenue percentage of their expected profit for 2016, but he said that the prospects for 2016 gaming sector are positive.

“I think we will be achieving very, very good growth. I’m not sure of the percentage but it will be a big jump (this year) because we are now fully open,” Ocier said. He also said Melco Crown’s management performance has been paying off and that the company has been able to control operational costs significantly.
