Japan’s largest bank to introduce own digital currency in fall 2017

Arrived late to the bitcoin party? Fret not, because 2017 might be your year.

In a matter of weeks, the price of bitcoin has already soared by more than 30 percent—from around $450 in May to $690.41 on Tuesday with an estimated 15.66 million bitcoins in circulation. This is the highest value the digital currency has been since September 2014, when the cryptocurrency went on a free fall from its all-time highs of more than $1,000 per single bitcoin.

Experts, like bitcoin entrepreneur Henry Brade, believes this is the best time to invest in the virtual currency, especially since the halving process—which reduces the amount of daily bitcoin created every day from 3,600 to 1,800—is due to start on July 10. Brade expects “the next six months or so” will be crucial for bitcoin as it starts “a new phase of massive price increase” by as much as 10 times.

But what if you don’t want to shell out $700 for a bitcoin? Well, Japan may soon offer a cheaper alternative.

Cavaliers stay alive in NBA Finals

Back-to-back championship and a do-or-die game.

That was the storyline of Game 5 as the Cleveland Cavaliers handled the Golden State Warriors at 120-90 to stave off elimination on Tuesday,

The Warriors and the fans entered the game outraged by Draymond Green’s suspension, after the NBA league ruled Sunday that he made “unnecessary contact with a retaliatory swipe” at LeBron James’s groin in Game 4.

As brutal as the suspension is, Green had three flagrant foul points including instances when he was dinged for throwing down Houston Rockets’ Michael Beasley during the regular season and another groin-related incident with Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams. He also tripped Enes Kanter, although no penalty was assigned to that act.

Loto-Quebec’s online gambling revenue up more than one-third in fiscal 2015-16

Loto-Quebec’s online gambling revenue improved more than one-third in its most recent fiscal year

According to its annual report released last week, the Canadian provincial gambling monopoly said its Espacejeux.com online gambling operations were “still very attractive,” with revenue rising 35.2% to a not at all butt-ugly C$66.2m (US $51.6m) in the 12 months ending March 31.

The company says all of Espacejeux’s gaming verticals are “gaining ground” and its new mobile product was helping bring in new players. The December 2015 decision to boost the pitiful payout ratio at its Mise-o-jeu parlay sports betting offering is reportedly paying off (although no specifics were offered) and its nascent political prop wagers are said to be off to a good start.

However, the fact that Espacejeux is forced to compete with internationally licensed online operators means the site’s market share remains mired at a pitiful 25%. If only there was some way of artificially tipping the scales so that Quebecois punters would have absolutely no choice but to settle for Espacejeux’s homegrown offering.

Politicians, businesses, labor groups launch No North Jersey Casinos coalition

While Trump and Hillary duke it out on the national stage (and on Twitter), New Jersey politicians are gearing up for what promises to be an equally bitter fight over the north Jersey casino ballot referendum.

Monday witnessed the launch of the No North Jersey Casinos coalition (NNJC), a group that reportedly includes over 300 businesses, public officials, labor leaders and private citizens who don’t want the state constitution amended to permit construction of two casinos outside Atlantic City.

The ‘no’ camp believes AC’s fortunes have stabilized following years of decline brought about by new casinos opening in adjacent states and thus now is exactly the wrong time to introduce new in-state competition.

The ‘yes’ side has argued that north Jersey casinos will keep gamblers from travelling further north to casinos in New York and that a portion of the revenue from the north Jersey casinos will help offset any further declines in AC.

And They’re Off: LeoVegas Opens First Euros Mascot Market

New-comer to the football betting scene, LeoVegas Sport, has opened the first market for punters to place their bets on where the England squad’s team mascot will be spotted next; he’s already been snapped in the background of the team picture boarding the plane, heading into the hotel and has even been out for the day with defender John Stones.

Tongues were wagging after Chris Smalling was initially spotted carrying the cuddly lion into the England team hotel in Chantilly, before it was revealed that the toy is in fact Leo the Lion – the squad’s playful team mascot.

Euro veteran Wayne Rooney arranged for the fluffy lion to travel to the tournament and now each of Roy’s chosen 23 will have to take on baby-sitting duties to make sure Leo is well looked after throughout the tournament, with severe punishments if he’s misplaced.

LeoVegas launched its Sportbook offering back in May, and has now started taking ‘Leo the Lion’ bets so we can all get involved with Rooney’s team building exercise.

New name and new vision for Asian industry’s No 1 expo

The Macao Gaming Show will be delivering the Chinese Government’s message of economic diversity over the next three years, launching its statement of intent with a new name for the 2016 exhibition which will be held at the Venetian Macau November 15-17. The MGS expo, the fastest growing exhibition on the international industry calendar, will now be named the MGS Entertainment Show. The new direction has been endorsed by the show’s Government partners, and will serve as a platform to help power the SAR and central Government’s programme to expand the range of exhibitors and products from both the gaming and non-gaming sides of the industry.

Owned and organised by the MGEMA, the Macau SAR’s most senior trade association, the MGS Entertainment Show is now preparing for its fourth edition. Backed by three years of significant growth, and now armed with a powerful new agenda and name, the exhibition will be updating and modernising the traditional expo model, applied originally in Las Vegas, to bring to Asia its first ever contemporary, all-encompassing gaming, entertainment and leisure show.

Already serving as the Asian gaming industry’s largest independent exhibition, the MGS Entertainment Show will draw on all the key sectors that support the development of leisure and tourism destinations. Whilst maintaining its primary focus on gaming, entertainment and technology, the exhibition will also draw heavily on the key service and ancillary sectors that help drive the business economy from hospitality, finance and investment through to vending, marketing and content houses.

Jay Chun, chairman of the MGEMA and one of the key business figures driving Macau’s diversity vision, commented: “The MGS Entertainment Show is more than an exhibition. Its intention is to reach every level of industry that plays a crucial part in driving business in a tourist and entertainment destination. Gaming and its pioneering technology will always sit at the heart of our show. It’s what we are and where we come from. But business does not stop there. Our economy – both here in Macau and throughout Asia – is about opportunity. And as the city and region opens up to economic expansion, the show must provide the platform for this. Our casinos go hand in hand with entertainment. They go hand in hand with new technology, new delivery platforms, new innovations – everything that makes a destination work. That’s why diversity on the showfloor must reflect diversity in our economy.”
