Becker wins blind flip to take €25k partypoker MILLIONS title; Kanit leads €50k

Johannes Becker won a three-way blind flip to be named the €25k Part Deux High Roller Champ, and Mustapha Kanit leads the €50k final table as the partypoker MILLIONS rolls on.

When I saw the name “Becker” alongside “€25k Win” in my Google Alerts, I hoped partypoker were going to take care of the trophy given Boris’s habit of losing them.

But it wasn’t Boris.

It was Johannes.

Mikita Badziakouski takes down High Roller tournament at MPC28

Rounding up the 28th season of the PokerStars Macau Poker Cup, the HK$80,000 High Roller tournament has found a winner.

Mikita “fish2013” Badziakouski took first place and stuffed just over $297,000 into his wallet. He also picked up a $30,000 Platinum Pass which gives him entry into next January’s PokerStars Players Championship.

Hailing from Belarus, the high-stakes player had already won over $6 million prior to taking a seat for the Macau Poker Cup. With the latest winnings, he has now earned over $6.6 million and is ranked 42nd on the Global Poker Index. He has cashed in live tournaments every year since 2010, with the exception of 2014. He collected the most money last year, winning just under $4.6 million in tournaments across the globe.

The final table of the tournament saw nine players from nine countries vying for the top prize. In the end, though Badziakouski eliminated Raul Gallego Martinez from Spain to take it down. Martinez, who has been playing professionally for several years, has had sporadic wins, but this was the largest to date. He took home $1.57 million as the second-place finisher.

Phil Hellmuth isn’t always a fan of his own ‘#Positivity’ campaign

Phil Hellmuth may be one of the winningest players ever to have played the game, but he went a different direction with his latest book, “#Positivity.”

The book was released on Amazon and provides motivational guidance to help readers lead a positive life. The hashtag “#POSITIVITY” has also become somewhat of a signature of the poker pro, who uses it in almost all of his posts on social media platforms. He may mean well by trying to be a motivational guide, but he recently failed in his actions when he stiffed an Uber driver out of a tip.

The driver took to social media to publicly admonish the 14-time WSOP winner, creating a little bit of a stir. After delivering Hellmuth to the airport, the driver jumped on social media to vent: “Bring this dude to airport – acts totally Privileged,” she posted. “ordered xl for just him – had heat blasting and interior light on hole [sic] time…not even 1$ tip like ok if I was a poker star I woulda tipped u!”

In a strange head-scratcher, though, the post was accompanied by a selfie, with the driver and Hellmuth both smiling for the camera. Several players decided to rebuke the driver, offering some tongue-in-cheek responses. Max Mitchell posted, “here’s a tip honey, dont [sic] call a raise with queen 10.” ITTW (InThruTheWindow) then added, “I can dodge tipping baby!”

Gaming Standards Association (GSA) creates gaming blockchain committee

LAS VEGAS (February 12, 2018) – The Gaming Standards Association (GSA) and Gaming Standards Association Europe (GSA Europe) have created a new Technical Committee dedicated to blockchain use. GSA made the announcement from its stand at ICE Totally Gaming, where the organization celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Blockchain technology is poised to revolutionize data sharing, security and has the ability to provide regulatory authorities with previously unobtainable levels of transparency. GSA’s new Blockchain Technical Committee will collaboratively address the technology and advise on possible areas where standards could be developed.

“GSA was created to help drive innovation in the gaming industry for the benefit of manufacturers, suppliers, operators and regulators,” said GSA President Peter DeRaedt. “By creating a new Blockchain Committee, we are once again proving how, by creating a standard way to use technology, GSA is achieving our mission.”

GSA Europe Managing Director Mark Pace said, “Many industries are evaluating how the blockchain technology can enhance data sharing security and increase operational transparency. GSA will launch this new committee and evaluate the creation of a gaming industry standard. This is very timely and may have significant impact on how companies can achieve GDPR and AML requirements.”

NBA, MLB insist on 1% cut of sports betting handle

The National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball continue to press their demand for a 1% cut of legal sports betting handle, despite nearly every other stakeholder deriding the plan as unworkable.

Monday brought committee hearings into West Virginia legislators’ plans to be ready in case the US Supreme Court strikes down the federal sports betting prohibition. Legislators are considering a bill that would allow the state’s five casino operators to offer sports betting under the oversight of the West Virginia Lottery Commission.

The legislation could come up for a floor vote on Friday, but the NBA and MLB are doing their best to derail the vote, based on the leagues’ belief that they deserve a 1% cut of all wagers placed on their respective sports. This ‘integrity fee’ has been widely slammed as an overly generous slice of what is an extremely low-margin business.

Speaking at Monday’s hearing on behalf of both the NBA and MLB, attorney Scott Ward claimed the leagues would use their slice of betting handle to monitor for betting activity for suspicious patterns and to enforce bans on their players making wagers. The leagues also want to require betting operators to use league-provided data for live betting.
