Jesper Kärrbrink and Anthony Werkman talk regulations and public perceptions

Ahead of this year’s Betting on Football (19-22 March), SBC caught up with two of the event’s headline speakers – Jesper Kärrbrink (Mr Green) and Anthony Werkman (Betway).

The pair will be taking part in the CEO panel, held as part of the ‘Leadership & Vision’ track on Wednesday 20 March, which will be looking at the industry’s response to a disruptive 2018 and the key values that need to be challenged to regain both public and political trust.

SBC: What can be done to offset the high-profile government restrictions that beset the industry in 2018?

Jesper Kärrbrink: It is a bit ironic, while the industry never has focused more on responsible gaming and anti-money laundering, we have never been this exposed in the common debate.

Analyzing how to uberize the iGaming industry with a glocal approach

• BtoBet unfolds its latest Industry Report prior to flying to ICE London

With the first years of the iGaming industry defined by the use of inflexible in-house technological solutions, nowadays there is general consensus that the use of technology developed by tech visionaries is the only way forward to guarantee constant innovation and an optimal player experience.

In its latest Industry Report, “Uberizing iGaming with a glocal approach”, BtoBet analyses the industry’s past rigid approach to technology, and its own current endeavour to uberize the market through a harmonization process of cutting edge technology, which easily morphs itself to the different business and market scenarios, constantly adapting itself on a local level.

In his dedicated editorial, BtoBet’s CEO Alessandro Fried states that it is of the utmost importance for operators to have at their disposal advanced technological solutions which they must couple with the right knowledge and expertise from a local perspective in order to meet all their pre-set goals. “It is a must to keep in mind that one size does not fit all. Technology that excels itself in a mature market will not work in a more technologically limited context and thus will have to adapt itself. The eventuality of making it big in one local market does not necessarily mean that adopting the same approach will eventually pan out as expected in another, even if neighbouring, country. Obviously this applies also vice versa. But for this to work out without any hiccups you must also have the correct know-how of all the the various aspects that constitute the context where licensees will be operating.”

Jason Koon signs as an ambassador for the 2019 Triton Super High Series

Jason Koon increases his workload away from the tables after signing on the dotted line to become the first-ever ambassador for Triton Poker.

Pay heed to the old maxim you are the sum total of the five people you spend your time with if you want to become one of the best poker players in the world.

If Jim Rohn were a poker player, Jason Koon would be one of his five. The man from the Mountain State is a mountain in more ways than one. Technically brilliant, emotionally sound, and the type of guy you want around the picnic table because the little critters that buzz around your food are afraid of him.

One punch.

Thursday NBA Odds: Road favorites on schedule

Surprise, surprise, the NBA’s two most popular teams this season, the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers, are featured on the Thursday NBA on TNT doubleheader. Yes, that’s sarcasm. No teams will be on national television more than those two.

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

Golden State tips off at 8pm ET with its only visit of the season to the Washington Wizards, set as a 9.5-point betting favorite. Normally, that would be a matchup of All-Star backcourts in the Warriors’ Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson vs. the Wizards’ John Wall and Bradley Beal, but Wall was lost for the season a couple of weeks ago. It’s a homecoming for Warriors star Kevin Durant, who grew up near the Washington, D.C., area.

The Dubs are asserting their dominance over the league right now on an eight-game winning streak, five by blowout. That includes a 19-point win at the Lakers on Monday in which Thompson tied an NBA record by making his first 10 three-pointers. Just for a point of comparison: Michael Jordan had a few years where he made fewer than 10 three-pointers IN A SEASON.

WSOP announce more 2019 events; more chips; Big Blind Ante across the board

The World Series of Poker has announced 34-additional events for the 2019 schedule, Big Blind Ante across the No-Limit Hold’em board and a new Champion of Champions tournament.

There’s been a lot of talk of ‘residency’ in Sin City this week. Drake has reportedly signed a multi-million dollar deal to create bags under people’s eyes in XS, Cardi B is going to be the star attraction when KAOS opens at the Palms in April, and Flavor Flav is in talks to bring his one-person variety performance to town.

A residency is the hash brown on a full English breakfast.

A residency is a Tofu fart beneath the covers.

Rush Street fined $30k for underage NJ online gambling

New Jersey gambling regulators have fined Rush Street Interactive (RSI) the sum of $30k for allowing underage individuals to gamble online.

This week, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) published a January 7 ruling in which it imposed a $30k civil penalty on RSI for “permitting individuals under the age of twenty-one to wager online. The notice was devoid of other details, except to say that the DGE filed its complaint against RSI on June 28, 2018.

RSI operates PlaySugarHouse.com, which launched in New Jersey’s regulated online gambling market in September 2016. SugarHouse is a Pennsylvania casino operated by RSI’s parent company, Rush Street Gaming.

Rush Street issued a statement saying responsible gaming is “a top priority” for the company and it took the incident “very seriously.” The company says it self-reported the “misconfiguration” to the DGE as soon as it was discovered and took “immediate action to correct and prevent recurrence.”
