Those hoping for their nicotine fix at MGM Cotai casino resort are going to have to wait a little longer. Macau’s Health Bureau announced on April 2 that MGM China Holdings Ltd., the operator of the resort, is still waiting for approval for upgraded smoking lounges, reports GGRAsia.
The bureau has not responded to requests for comment as to why MGM Cotai is still waiting for approval. They haven’t held back for other requests, approving 588 of them for 35 other casinos.
The smoking lounges are located near the gaming areas of the resorts to serve patrons who wish to smoke. Without them, the operators are forced to ask customers to leave the building for a drag, possibly losing a customer. Not having an upgraded smoking lounge puts MGM Cotai uniquely at risk of losing their customers to the competition.
Before December 31, 2018, VIP rooms were the only locations gamblers could smoke inside a casino’s premises. Since then, new smoking laws force casinos to request approval for their lounges, a rule that had a grace period during 2018, but is now fully in effect.
It wasn’t long ago when Bitcoin ABC claimed that big blocks could not be reliably done and would only cause insecurity and instability—at least for the Bitcoin Cash network. But with only five months after it rebirthed the original Bitcoin as envisioned by Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin SV(BSV) is proving that yes, massive on-chain scaling is possible. And now that Bitcoin’s true power is finally unleashed, a more efficient digital currency network and commodity data ledger are providing possibilities the world has been waiting for.
This past week marked another milestone for BSV, as the network proves that with on-chain scaling, organic growth is very much achievable. On March 31, a 128MB block was mined by CoinGeek Mining. 128MB is the current default block cap set on BSV, so this world-record setting block completely filled the current maximum. The block contained large data files (high-resolution pictures) uploaded using the “BitPaste” multi-swipe application, which makes it easy for users to upload large files with quick swipes of the Money Button.
This is the second time a block that size was mined on the BSV network. Just a day earlier, on March 30, another 128MB block was mined by nChain’s BMG Pool.
Both 128MB blocks generated transaction fees for the successful miner of 1.279 BSV, thus another 10+% of miner revenue on top of the normal 12.5 BSV block reward. This is worth noting, because it demonstrates how massive on-chain scaling allows more transactions (of differing data types and thus differing fee levels) in a block, which, in turn, results in greater total transaction fees for the miner on top of the pre-set block reward. Bitcoin block rewards halve every four years, and happens again next year as the block reward reduces from 12.5 to only 6.25 coins. Therefore, Bitcoin’s economic model requires miners to progressively earn more in transaction fees to make up for the continually-reducing block reward value, in order to mining to remain profitable and miners to continue sustaining the network. That only happens with bigger blocks and massive on-chain scaling—as now demonstrated by the BSV network—to ensure Bitcoin’s long-term success.
Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence or “AI” both play a huge part in Facebook’s values as an organization and to the company’s future. According to Facebook’s Ross Doyle, Client Partner, the company has invested heavily in core AI research and global collaboration across universities, research organizations and other companies.
We in the gambling industry often discover representatives of Facebook presenting at our events as there are a number of synergies between social platforms and online gambling companies. In fact, several professionals have made the switch from working for iGaming companies to working for Facebook, including Doyle.
“I graduated with a marketing degree and began working at a tech startup in Dublin shortly after graduation. I had always been a huge sports fan and in 2014 I moved to Paddy Power where I led social marketing for the brand. The more I worked with Paddy Power and Facebook, I believed it was a perfect partnership, social platforms have the relevant audience that gambling brands want to reach,” Doyle shared.
“So in 2016 I joined Facebook’s Real Money Gaming team, a team focused on this industry specifically, partnering with select operators in this space. As the only team at Facebook wholly focused on this industry, we play a role in helping Facebook understand the challenges and needs of the industry and helping the industry understand the opportunity presented by a platform like Facebook,” he added.
Clarion Gaming, which organises many of gaming’s most successful international business events has partnered with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey to deliver the first ever TEN (The Executive Network) Investors’ Day taking place on Monday, May 13, part of the inaugural ICE North America (May 13-15, Boston MA, USA). SunTrust, the full-service corporate and investment bank active across 14 major US cities, is working with TEN to bring the worlds of investment, gambling, betting, sports and media closer together in order to discuss, develop and explore investment opportunities.
Explaining the vision behind the first TEN event to be staged on the continent of North America, Clarion Gaming’s Dan Stone said: “We always work in partnership with the industry to produce events that deliver opportunity and facilitate business and the TEN Investors’ Day is no exception.
“Working with SunTrust has enabled us to curate a day of learning and networking which is focussed on investment opportunities in what is one of world gaming’s most exciting markets. The C-Level strategic decision makers and thought leaders who are part of ‘The Executive Network’ constitute exactly the right audience to be part of the first invitation-only ICE North America Investors’ Day. The initiative has been constructed around four main panels featuring portfolio managers and senior analysts from leading asset managers who will provide insight into the investment opportunity through the value chain. The specialist nature of the initiative necessitates it being invite-only and open to members of The Executive Network and investors who are part of ICE North America.”
ICE North America (May 13-15 in Boston, MA, USA) has exceeded pre-launch forecasts with leading exhibitors, sponsors and attendees from across the globe confirming their attendance. A consolidation of Clarion Gaming’s US assets to create a single large scale business event, ICE North America covers the key verticals of sports betting, interactive gaming, esports, iLottery and affiliate marketing.
A former Grosvenor United Kingdom Poker Tour, Main Event winner, gets owned by the HM Revenue and Customs (again), and former heavyweight and cruiserweight world boxing champion, David Haye, continues his poker education.
When a professional poker player wins a tournament, rarely do they keep all of the money. There’s no yellow tape around that truth. It’s as rare as a feeble firefighter that they don’t get to keep any of it – unless you’re Adam Lulat.
In 2015, the 27-year-old from Preston, England, was one of six people scarred for life after a pan-European investigation led by the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) discovered his role in a £40m VAT tax fraud.
A funny man wearing a wig in Manchester Crown Court sentenced Lulat to 28-months in prison and ordered him, and his five chums, to return £590,000. Given that Lulat was skint at the time, he only had to pay £1 – the difference between a whale and a tiddler.
The poker community has spoken; Jonathan Little, Johnnie Moreno, Brad Owen and Lex Veldhuis make the shortlist for the People’s Choice Award at Friday night’s Global Poker Awards ceremony.
If you think being a professional poker player is an odd way to make a living then how about an Art Crimes Investigator?
That’s the title embossed on the business card of Arthur Brand, who last week, recovered Pablo Picasso’s 1938 masterpiece “Portrait of Dora Maar,” after someone stole it from a yacht moored in the South of France back in 1999.
After a fruitless three-year search, Brand finally found the painting after underworld sources revealed how a businessman had received it as payment for something or other and he didn’t know what to do with it (hang it somewhere, maybe?)
Morten Andersen, who holds the all-time record for most games played in the NFL, will be delivering a keynote speech at this month’s Betting on Sports America conference, held from 23-25 April at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey.
Andersen is attending #bosamerica as an ambassador for the Denmark-based igaming affiliate Better Collective – a key sponsor of the event whose US-facing brands include Betoclock.com, the us-bookies.com hub and a fast-growing bet-state network already featuring bet-nj.com, bet-wv.com and bet-pa.com.
The ‘Great Dane’ will be talking about the NFL’s unique ability to connect with its fan base – and particularly those with an affinity for sports betting – as part of the ‘Sports and Betting’ track on Thursday 25 April, the second full day of the conference.
At the age of 17, Andersen did an exchange in the USA from his native Denmark. As there was no European football available at his school, he applied his skills to American football.
The 2019 NCAA Tournament was incredibly chalk through the Sweet 16, but there’s just one top-seeded team standing for Saturday night’s Final Four from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. That’s South Region champion Virginia. The Cavaliers face No. 5 Auburn, the surprise Midwest winner, in Saturday’s first game, with Virginia a 5-point favorite.

UVA also is the slight favorite to win its first-ever national championship on Monday night and thus should be favored against the winner between No. 2 Michigan State and No. 3 Texas Tech, although injuries or blowouts could change a potential title game spread. Neither Virginia nor Auburn has ever played for a national championship, with the Tigers in their first-ever Final Four.
Virginia has been known for its (Pack Line) defense under Coach Tony Bennett, with the Cavs again leading the nation in points allowed this season at just 55.4 points per game. They play a plodding type of game. It should be a clash in styles because Bruce Pearl’s Tigers like to play up-tempo and average 80.1 points per game, firing away at will from three-point range. Almost half of Auburn’s field-goal attempts this season came from deep.

At the age of 17, Andersen did an exchange in the USA from his native Denmark. As there was no European football available at his school, he applied his skills to American football.
What followed was an illustrious career in the NFL, where he retired in 2008 as the all-time leader for games played and points scored in NFL history, as well as being the all-time leading scorer for both the New Orleans Saints – where he spent 13 seasons – and the Atlanta Falcons, for whom he spent a combined eight seasons.
Better Collective CEO Jesper Søgaard said: “It is exciting for us to be joined by Morten Andersen, an undisputed legend of the NFL. Andersen’s journey from starting in Denmark and obtaining such success in the USA is an obvious source of inspiration for us and our US strategy, and we are proud to have him as an ambassador for Better Collective.
“Betting on Sports America was already a key part of the 2019 agenda for Better Collective, as a prime opportunity to increase our knowledge of where affiliates sit in the new marketplace.”
Andersen added: “I am very honoured to be joining Better Collective at Betting on Sports America. Danish values are something that I have always adhered to throughout my career in the US, and I’m happy to see Better Collective is applying those same values to the betting industry.
“I hope to draw upon my experience from over 25 years in the NFL to deliver some useful insight to betting industry leaders, particularly those focused on making a mark in the newly liberalised US market.”
Rasmus Sojmark, SBC Founder and CEO, commented: “The so-called European betting ‘invasion’ – led by software providers, front-end operators and affiliates – has been a major talking point post-PASPA repeal, and something that will form a key part of the discussion at the inaugural Betting on Sports America conference.
“Therefore it is fitting that we can present Morten Andersen – one of the finest European exports across the top four US sports – as part of the stacked up agenda. We’d like to thank our friends at Better Collective for making this happen.”

Week 33 of the English Premier League sees Manchester City return to the summit after beating Cardiff City at home, and Manchester United drop to sixth after comfortable wins for Chelsea and Spurs in the race for Champions League qualification.
Here’s the plan.
A Liverpool scout will infiltrate The Etihad, kidnap the Kit Man, create a fake face using a 3D-printer, and then hand it to Liverpool’s equivalent.
The fake Kit Man will order cacti from the local succulent store, remove the needles, and place them in the football boots of the entire Manchester City squad. Then, and only then, do Liverpool have any chance of winning the English Premier League (EPL).

Cambodian casino operator NagaCorp started off 2019 on a roll, with VIP gambling activity driving a nearly one-third spike in revenue.
On Wednesday, the Hong Kong-listed NagaCorp offered investors a sneak peek at its upcoming Q1 earnings report. The company said its gross gaming revenue hit just under $321.2m in the first three months of 2019, a 32% rise from the same period last year.
Spending at NagaCorp’s flagship NagaWorld property in Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh was up across the board, with mass market table buy-ins rising 31% to $344.4m and electronic gaming machine (EGM) bills-in up 29% to $665.8m. But VIP gambling turnover was the real star, as rolling chip numbers were up 45% to nearly $8.19b in the three months ending March 31.
The company credited a number of factors for the VIP surge, including junket operator Suncity Group moving its operation in the Naga 2 facility to a larger space with more VIP tables and other amenities. The Tak Chun junket officially planted its flag at NagaWorld during the quarter, as did the Guangdong Group.
