Thursday’s NFL, NBA games deliver some surprises

Sports fans had a lot of action to choose from yesterday and there’s never been a better reason to argue for multiple TV screens in the living room. The NBA’s Western Conference finals are being decided between the LA Lakers and the Denver Nuggets and, while the outcome may have been predictable, there was still some amazing on-court activity. In the NFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars took the field against the Miami Dolphins in a showdown of two Florida-based teams, and to say this didn’t go the way anyone had expected would be an understatement.

The Lakers were 2-1 going into Game 4 of the best-of-seven series and the 16-time NBA champs are looking to add one more to the list. The team already holds the record for the longest winning streak in the league – at 33 games – and continues to show incredible talent year after year. While the Nuggets were able to mount a comeback in the series to take the second game, the Lakers have rebounded to take a commanding lead.

Last night saw LA take control from the first tip-off, never giving up the lead all the way through to the final buzzer. The Nuggets tried to find some magic a couple of times and were able to close the gap, but never enough to threaten the Lakers’ dominating offense. LeBron James finished the night with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Anthony Davis added 34 points and five rebounds. Those rebounds led to the Lakers recovering the ball 12 more times than the Nuggets, leading to the team getting 25 extra points they may not have counted on.

The Nuggets didn’t play poorly, which is why the Lakers can’t relax. LA may now be up 3-1 in the series after winning last night, 114-108, but Nuggets guard Jamal Murray was on fire and scored 32 points. Denver has a habit of launching surprise attacks while behind and it’s not impossible to think that this series might be forced to go all the way to seven games before a winner is decided. Whoever emerges on top will more than likely face the Eastern Conference Miami Heat, who need to win just one more game against the Boston Celtics to advance to the NBA Finals.

NFL odds roundup: week 3 lines & trends

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

Week 3 seems WAY too early to announce the most anticipated NFL regular-season game of the year, but that’s pretty clearly the case Monday night when the Kansas City Chiefs visit the Baltimore Ravens, who are 3-point favorites.

These are the two favorites to win Super Bowl 55 – of course, the Chiefs are defending Super Bowl champions, while the Ravens entered the last postseason as the No. 1 overall seed with a franchise-record 14 wins but were upset in the Divisional Round by Tennessee. Baltimore lost just once on the road all of last season: Week 3 in Kansas City 33-28 as Patrick Mahomes outplayed Lamar Jackson. Mahomes was the 2018 NFL MVP and is the +500-second favorite this season. Jackson won it last year and is the +500 second-favorite as well. Kansas City is 10-2-1 ATS in its past 13 as a dog.

Just as Chiefs-Ravens could be an AFC title game preview, the other marquee Week 3 matchup is Sunday night as Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers visit Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in a potential NFC Championship Game preview. It could be the last time Rodgers and Brees ever face off if they don’t meet in this postseason with Brees likely to retire after 2020. The Saints are -3 but 1-5 ATS in their past six at home against teams with winning records.

Saints alive? Raiders prove there’s no such thing as a sure bet in NFL

Betting on the NFL is – even more so than the average sports bet – risky business. Some sure hopes can crash and burn, costing investors thousands. That certainly happened on Monday night as the New Orleans Saints took on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2 of the NFL.

As you can see, it didn’t at all go to plan for the Saints, as they lost out 34-24 to a side they were more than expected to beat.

Plenty of sports bettors had money on the line, including – one can assume from the texts, one of the best poker players in the world, Tony Dunst. The WSOP bracelet winner and WPT anchor put out a handicap prop bet on Twitter and ‘got the action he was after’.

NFL betting has taken a commanding league on the Bodog sportsbook

As had been expected, the launch of the 2020 NFL season has taken over the activity seen by sportsbooks. American football wagers have always attracted a great deal of attention, much more than other sports, and the start of the season earlier this month has proven, once again, why it’s king. Based on the numbers provided by sports gambling operator Bodog for this past weekend, the sportsbook is seeing a tremendous amount of action on NFL games.

In a breakdown of the different leagues available for gambling this past weekend, the NFL ruled them all with 43.12% of the bets placed on Bodog. College football gave football wagers a boost as it collected 13.99% of the action, making football the clear winner among all sports. The NBA Playoffs took third place among the top-ten bet leagues; however, that isn’t saying much since it only accounted for 13.13% of the wagers. Granted, there were more options to choose from in the NFL than in the NBA, but this pattern was expected well before the football season kicked off.

The number of NBA games this past weekend can be counted on one hand; the number of MLB games, however, was five times that amount. Still, MLB games didn’t attract a lot of attention and were only able to grab about 12.23% of the wagers on Bodog. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and its Fight Night saw a few bets thrown in here and there to grab about 3.98% of the action, while soccer, golf and tennis made appearances, as well.

Sports gambling fans were most interested in how the game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks would go, giving this game 22.68% of the action on Bodog. The Seahawks were the favorites heading into the game, and they didn’t disappoint their backers. They came away with a 35-30 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Pats moved to 1-1.

Derek Carr and the Raiders roll over the Saints in NFL home opener

It took a couple of years, but the former Oakland Raiders are now officially the Las Vegas Raiders. The NFL team was finally able to make its move after the end of last season, ready to enjoy a new city and a new stadium. The Raiders played their first home game on the new turf yesterday at Allegiant Stadium and didn’t let down their die-hard fans or the new ones they picked up along the way. Not only did they beat the New Orleans Saints as the definitive underdogs, they completely walked all over their opponents in the second half of the game.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was on fire yesterday, throwing three touchdowns and completing 28 of his 38 passes. Tight end Darren Waller was Carr’s go-to man in the game, grabbing 12 of the balls to rack up 103 yards. However, Carr tried not to show favoritism and was able to connect with several different targets as the Raiders secured their 34-24 victory. That kept the Saints on their toes, making it more difficult to defend against the aerial plays.

The Saints got off to a good start in the game, scoring ten unanswered points early on. However, the Raiders didn’t let that, or several questionable penalties throughout the game, stand in the way, mounting a comeback that would see the score tied heading into the half. Carr produced four consecutive scoring drives and, when the action resumed after the break, his run continued. The Saints defense proved to be overwhelmed by the Raiders, unable to stop the team on third- and fourth-down conversions. The Raiders converted two fourth-down attempts, one of which resulted in a touchdown.

The Saints, who now sit at 1-1 on the season, did a good job trying to mount a comeback, even if it fell short. Quarterback Drew Brees was able to move the ball quickly downfield late in the fourth quarter, leading the way for running back Alvin Kamara to punch into the end zone to come within less than one score of the Raiders. The Raiders got the ball back and started their push down the field, getting some assistance from a pass interference call against the Saints. With time running out, the Raiders set up for a 54-yard field goal – long by any standard – and kicker Daniel Carlson knocked it in.

Week 2 in the NFL brings a lot of excitement – and injuries

Yesterday’s NFL action provided the entire gambit of emotions to football fans. There was no shortage of awesome plays to keep everyone entertained, including some down-to-the-wire finishes, but there was also a high number of injuries that are going to impact teams for weeks to come. Without the ability to train properly ahead of the start of the season, thanks to COVID-19, players are taking the field in other than optimum condition, and this doesn’t bode well for several teams that are now scrambling to fill unexpected and key vacancies.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to stop a late resurgence by the Denver Broncos to hold on for the win. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was everything Steelers fans expected him to be, throwing for 311 yards and two touchdowns. A single interception was the only blemish on the day, but that didn’t prevent Pittsburgh from taking the 26-21 victory. Things looked a little dicey toward the end when the Broncos mounted a comeback with less than two minutes on the clock, but the Pittsburgh defense sacked quarterback Jeff Driskel on fourth down to seal the deal.

Driskel was only in the game because starting QB Drew Lock exited in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. Driskel did what he could to give Denver the advantage, but wasn’t able to overcome a powerful defense. The Steelers were the -334 favorite heading into the game, and they proved why they were getting such good odds with their second win of the season.

The LA Rams didn’t find too much trouble in the Philadelphia Eagles, taking the win 37-19. That’s two in the W column for the Rams and two in the L column for the Eagles so far this season, and the Rams are starting to look sharp. Rams QB Jared Goff had 267 yards in the air with three touchdowns to lead his team to victory; however, he was left without the help of running back Cam Akers, who took a shot to the ribs and was sidelined for the rest of the game. Chalk one up for the underdogs, as the Eagles were the -128 favorite to win against the +110 Rams.

BetMGM now the official sports betting partner for the NFL’s Raiders

The competition by sports betting operators in the US is fast and fierce, with the operators working overtime to secure new deals ahead of their rivals. DraftKings and FanDuel may have a solid piece of the action, but BetMGM has been making some serious moves this year to come out in first. The MGM Resorts International-led outfit has teamed up with NASCAR, the PGA Tour and MLB, among others, and is making a serious dent in the NFL world. It’s already tied to the Denver Broncos and the Detroit Lions, but just inked another partnership, this time with a league team in its own backyard. The Las Vegas Raiders, which just relocated to the city ahead of the current season, have given their blessing to BetMGM to be their first sports betting partner.

MGM is based in Las Vegas and the partnership with the Raiders shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. The two have been intertwined since the beginning of the year when MGM became the team’s official gaming partner. That opened the door for MGM to be able to place signage at Allegiant Stadium, the Raiders’ new home field, as well as naming rights to a stadium VIP entrance and an exclusive MGM Club at the venue. It also gave MGM the right to be called a “founding partner” of the stadium.

Raiders President Marc Badain says of the new agreement, “We are pleased to add BetMGM to the MGM Resorts partnership portfolio. The addition of BetMGM will open new levels of engagement for Raiders fans and guests of Allegiant Stadium.” Of course, for any of that to happen, Allegiant will have to allow fans to attend games and other events, which it currently can’t do because of COVID-19. For now, unless something drastic changes, attendance is prohibited for the entire NFL season.

Bill Hornbuckle, the CEO of MGM Resorts, adds, “All of us at MGM Resorts are proud to welcome the Raiders and the NFL to Las Vegas. We look forward to providing Raiders fans a world-class sports betting and entertainment experience, both in our BetMGM Sportsbooks and digitally, through the BetMGM mobile app.” BetMGM, previously called PlayMGM, introduced its mobile wagering app in Nevada this past March following a successful launch in Indiana the month before.

Burrow misses expectations on NFL entrance, but better times coming

The Cincinnati Bengals deserve a little credit as the NFL season gets underway – at least they’re being consistent. As Week 2 kicked off yesterday, the Bengals took on the Cleveland Browns and expected their new quarterback, Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow, to be a strong force leading the team. That hasn’t been working, though, and the Bengals are now 0-2 on the season after their 35-30 win last night. Realistically, Burrow can’t be blamed for all the team’s faults, especially after seeing some of the embarrassing plays the Bengals made last night, but he’s going to have to break out of his shell if he expects to live up to the hype of being the first player drafted in this year’s NFL Draft.

The game was touch and go last night, with both sides showing some stellar abilities on offensive. However, the Browns’ defense proved to be too strong, and was able to take out Burrow three times on sacks. A miscue early in the second quarter forced the Bengals to lose 25 yards on third down, the type of mistake that can only be chalked up to inexperience. Burrow was lined up at shotgun and began the count before deciding to call a timeout at precisely the moment he should have been calling for the ball. He turned toward his sideline as the ball came out from the line of scrimmage behind him and he chased it back to the Bengals’ own 17 before falling on it.

By the end of the night, Burrow had logged 61 pass attempts, the second-most for any rookie in NFL history (Chris Weinke still holds the record with 63 when he started with the Carolina Panthers). Of those attempts, only 37 were successful, but Burrow still managed to put up 316 yards in the air, including one nine-yard pass with only 43 seconds left on the clock for a touchdown. That put the Bengals within five points of tying the game, but a subsequent onside kick attempt failed, and the Browns walked away with their first win of the season.

The Browns star quarterback, Baker Mayfield, who took the Heisman in 2017, was more consistent, completing 16 of 23 of his passes. He had no problem throwing to different receivers, connecting with eight during the game to complete for 219 yards. Another 215 yards on the ground solidified the Browns’ domination of the game.

NFL Odds Roundup: Week 2 Lines & Trends

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

Two storylines appear to stand out in Week 2 of this NFL season: Tom Brady’s home debut as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Raiders’ home debut in their new city of Las Vegas. Sadly, there will be no fans in attendance in either Tampa or at the spectacular $2 billion Allegiant Stadium in Sin City.

Brady was a rare regular-season underdog in Week 1 with Tampa Bay losing 34-23 at a very good New Orleans Saints team. Brady threw two picks, including one returned for a touchdown. He frankly looked his age of 43 at times. TB12 is back in his usual favored role against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday with the Bucs at -9 for the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Carolina lost its ninth straight game in Matt Rhule’s NFL coaching debut in Week 1, 34-30 to the Raiders. The Panthers have covered just once over that stretch.

Speaking of the Saints, they will be the first visitors to Las Vegas in the Monday night game, with New Orleans sitting at -6. Future Hall of Famer Drew Brees has done just about everything possible in his NFL career other than play in Las Vegas. Check that off the list. As noted, the Raiders won their debut as Vegas’ team in Week 1, 34-30 in Charlotte. The Saints carry a seven-game road winning streak into this one, winning by an average of 13 points per game.

NFL’s Eagles sign FOX Bet deal as league pursues int’l betting pacts

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed a partnership with betting operator FOX Bet, while the National Football League appears more interested in signing betting deals where no one in the US can see them.

On Tuesday, the Eagles announced a multi-year deal with FOX Bet, a brand of UK-listed gambling giant Flutter Entertainment, to become an Official Partner of the team. Despite betting being legal in Pennsylvania, the deal downplays actual wagering in favor of marketing opportunities.

Specifically, FOX Bet will open a branded ‘interactive studio’ at the Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field that will create “exclusive content across multiple platforms,” including the team’s official YouTube channel, mobile app, website and social media. FOX Bet will also serve as presenting sponsor of the new Eagles Edge digital post-game show.

In addition, FOX Bet will enjoy lots of custom promotions and branding opportunities, including ‘prominent’ messaging on the stadium’s signage and LED boards. If and when fans are ever allowed to watch games in person, FOX Bet will sponsor the Eagles Tailgate Crew. Up to 380 fans will also be welcome at a new 4k-square-foot FOX Bet Lounge that will feature an ‘interactive activation room’ with lots of TVs.

Tempted by Tampa? Why the New Orleans Saints win could have saved you money

When the National Football League kicked off again last weekend, many sportsbettors were looking in the direction of Tom Brady, the man with the golden arm who traded his place in Patriots history for a new start with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A lot of the pre-season money went on Tampa as investors looked to how the East Coast franchise would improve due to the presence not only of Brady, but his former colleague Rob Gronkowski, who also made his debut.

Here’s what happened in the game, courtesy of the NFL’s official YouTube channel:

Titans barely eke out a win after Gostkowski’s horrible night

The Tennessee Titans pulled off a win against the Denver Broncos as expected in the NFL’s Monday Night Football last night, but it wasn’t due to a confident leg of their kicker, Stephen Gostkowski.  It took the Titans a last-minute push to pull ahead of the Broncos and, if Gostkowski’s last attempt at putting his team on the right side of the victory had failed, there’s a good chance he would have been updating his resume.  Fortunately for him, the kick was good, but not before missing three field goals and an extra point attempt in the game.

Gostkowski was picked up during the offseason after being cut by the New England Patriots last March.  In his season opener with his new team, he completely missed two field goals and had another field goal attempt blocked, and missed an easy freebie that no professional kicker should ever miss.  After the Titans moved into the end zone for a touchdown, his point after kick went wide and the virtual crowd went wild.

Thanks to the unsure foot of Gostkowski, the Titans have now logged more missed field goals than those made, beginning the season with three misses.  It’s the second year that the team has had a lot of trouble with its kicks, and last season, the team also missed more than they had made.  They had been doing a lot better since 1987, the year of the last NFL strike, which was the last time any team in the league logged fewer made field goals than those missed.

Gostkowski is a four-time Pro Bowler, which makes one wonder what he’s been doing wrong lately to get to where he is.  The Titans went 9-7 last year and were expected to not have too much difficulty with the Broncos, who had gone 7-9.  However, the game was a lot closer than it should have been, which is what will happen when a kicker misses out on the chance to add ten points to the scoreboard.

The NFL is back, and Bodog saw plenty of action this weekend

The NFL had its 2020 season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans last Thursday, ushering in a new – and different – year for football. That game was just a taste of what was to come this past weekend, which offered a slate full of hot games for sports fans. Sports gamblers didn’t waste any time getting in on the action, and the Bodog sportsbook saw a lot of interest in almost all the games. The NBA and MLB were there, as well, but nearly at the level enjoyed by the NFL.

The NFL was responsible for 38.83% of the wagers seen by Bodog this past weekend. Football is always the most attractive sport for gamblers, and even college football, which is currently only running at less than half its normal speed, attracted 16.34% of the wagers. The NBA Playoffs, and a couple of surprise victories, saw pro basketball take 15.47% of the action, while MLB came in just behind, with 15.32%.

Those were the only four leagues to hit the double-digit mark; everyone else was relegated to the low single-digit area. The U.S. Open gave Bodog 3.56% of its entire betting activity over the weekend, followed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which garnered 3.06%. The English Premier League and the NHL also saw a few bets, taking 2.53% and 2.12%, respectively.

Out of the top ten individual games, NFL contests took five spots and the NBA grabbed three – the remaining two went to college football. Of the NFL games, the one that saw the most action was the battle between the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Rams. It was the hands-down favorite on Bodog, taking 25.77% of the wagers. If anyone thought that the Cowboys were going to get their season off on the right foot and turn things around from last year’s 9-7 finish, they missed, as the Rams pulled out a decisive, 20-17 victory. The Cowboys played well, but not well enough to log their first win of the season.

The first Sunday of the NFL 2020 season is a hit with fans and oddsmakers

For most NFL fans, yesterday was everything they had hoped it would be, despite concerns over how the lack of preseason games due to the coronavirus, empty stadiums and pre-game protests might impact the action. True football fans know how to focus their energy on the important stuff and won’t anything stand in their way of enjoying their favorite game. Yesterday provided more than a few surprises and upsets, some questionable calls and crazy outcomes – everything anyone could hope for in a day packed full of football. For those who enjoyed a little wager action, there were also a couple of nail-biting moments.

The Chicago Bears defeated the Detroit Lions, and one could only guess what would have happened if Lions linebacker Jamie Collins hadn’t been ejected in the first half. The Lions roared throughout the game despite his absence, a result of contact he made with referee Alex Kemp, but would ultimately give up a major lead of 17 points to take the loss. The Bears had been the underdog to win, and did gamblers a favor by launching their massive comeback. They also covered the 2.5 spread and broke the Over/Under of 42.5 points.

Everyone was waiting to see how Tom Brady would perform with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after giving up on the New England Patriots in the offseason. It’s too early to call it, but throwing three interceptions against the New Orleans Saints isn’t a good way to get started. As a result, the Bucs went down, 34-23, and the Saints took the moneyline, the 4-point spread and crushed the Over/Under of 48.

Cam Newton made his debut with the Pats yesterday as the team met the Miami Dolphins. The former quarterback of the Carolina Panthers is returning from a number of injuries from last season and, when he walked it in for a touchdown early in the game, it seemed like he may have bounced back. However, his performance after that, including a scuffle with Miami players, was lackluster. Still, the 21-11 victory was enough to win the moneyline and take the spread of seven. It wasn’t, however, enough to cover the Over/Under of 41.5 points, falling well short.

The bar is set for the 2020 NFL season after Chiefs-Texans opener

The Kansas City Chiefs want to show this NFL season that their Super Bowl championship from last year was not just a fluke. Based on their first game of the season last night, also the first game for the league, they’re off to a good start. Their home field, Arrowhead Stadium, is one of the few that has agreed to allow limited fan attendance, and, for four quarters, many people forgot that the world is dealing with a health pandemic. Football is back, and things are getting off to a strong start.

Despite the lack of preseason games, the modified training camps that saw teams greatly reduce their full-pad practices and strict health and safety measures, the Chiefs and the Houston Texans didn’t seem to be deterred. The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, pulled out a playbook that was precisely what everyone had envisioned – a passing game built almost entirely around the Super Bowl MVP. The Texans had expected this and shifted from last season’s man-to-man coverage against him to a zone defense designed to keep Mahomes from finding targets. It didn’t work.

Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid made the necessary adjustments on the fly, and Mahomes saved his arm by concentrating more on short passes, with just an occasional long ball with wings – his longest pass was for 19 yards, but he accumulated a total of 211 and three touchdown passes. It was highly successful, and Mahomes ended the night with spectacular numbers, becoming the first NFL player to pick up three touchdown passes and no interceptions in three consecutive openers.

In addition to Mahomes, the Chiefs also have a ringer in rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Kansas City picked him up in the first round of the NFL Draft this year out of Louisiana State University, and he has proven to be worth every bit the Chiefs put in to acquire him. He ran for 138 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown run, and the Texans spent all night trying to figure out how to stop him. He is the first rookie in the NFL to rush for 100 yards in an opening game in the past 13 seasons, and more teams across the league are now studying films to figure out how to stop him.

Bettors ‘significantly’ more excited about NFL kickoff than non-bettors

US sports bettors are more likely to bet with a non-approved bookmaker on this season’s National Football League action, despite increased access to locally licensed betting options.

On Wednesday, the American Gaming Association (AGA) released the results of a new survey into Americans’ 2020 NFL betting plans. The survey of 2,200 adults showed 54% of bettors are stoked about the new NFL season – which kicks off Thursday – versus just 41% of ‘avid and general’ NFL fans and just 18% of the general US population.

The numbers aren’t really a great surprise, as numerous surveys have shown bettors are far more dedicated consumers of NFL broadcasts than non-bettors.

But some 42% of US adults are actually less enthusiastic about the 2020 NFL season, with the increased politicization surrounding the game cited as the primary cause (36%) of this waning appeal. Other contributing factors were the absence of fans in the stands (19%) and the inability of fans to congregate with friends to watch games (17%) due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Simulated glory: Is the NFL really impossible to predict?

The forthcoming NFL season is going to notoriously difficult to predict. So what would you say I we told you that the path to Super Bowl glory had already been mapped out? Don’t worry, we’re not venturing in the direction of Russian conspiracies or pre-election fixes. The good folks at ESPN have simulated the 2020/21 NFL season and come up with the team they think will lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy on 7th February next year.

It’s a very hard predicting the outcome of a single game of American football, so to simulate an entire season takes a lot of work indeed. Is it possible to be successful, though, and do the odds tally with the forecasts? Let’s take a look at exactly how it breaks down.

In the AFC, the predictions of the ESPN super-computer have the Ravens and Steelers both making the post-season from the North, with each side expected to get 12 wins from their 16 fixtures. That’s a tall order for the very best teams, but at 7/1 to win the 55th annual Super Bowl, the Ravens are favoured by the bookies ahead of the Steelers, available at 25/1. At those odds, perhaps the Steelers are the better bet.

In the AFC South, forecasts call a tight division sending the Houston Texans (60/1) through with the Indianapolis Colts (33/1), with both the Titans and Jaguars missing out, the latter to the tune of just three regular season wins, something that would give them the NFL draft’s famous ‘first pick’ for 2021.

Betcris new betting partner of NFL in LatAm markets

Venerable online sportsbook BetCris has become the National Football League’s official sports betting partner in Latin America, the latest example of the US sports world’s supreme hypocrisy on betting issues.

On Tuesday, the NFL announced that the Costa Rica-based, Malta-licensed Betcris was its new official sponsor in Mexico, Central America and South America. The deal will provide the bookmaker with official NFL data for in-play betting purposes, as well as access to league trademarks and brand exposure on NFL digital properties.

Betcris will also become an official sponsor of the NFL’s 2021 game in Mexico City’s Estadio Axteca (assuming COVID-19 cooperates), as well as becoming a presenting partner of the league’s free-play Pick’Em app.

BetCris CEO JD Duarte said the NFL nod was “the culmination of years of work to make Betcris a household name in Latin America.” Chris Halpin, the NFL’s director of strategy and growth, said the league’s growing profile in LatAm made it “important that we partner with a trusted industry leader in the territory.”

NFL odds roundup: Week 1 lines & trends

Odds courtesy of OddsShark.com

This promises to a be a most unique NFL season because fans will not be in attendance at most stadiums around the league – at least for a while. If things get better with the coronavirus, that could change. Of course, if things get worse regarding COVID-19, the season might not even finish.

There are some excellent Week 1 matchups on Sunday, but without question one stands apart: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints with a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. It’s the Bucs and NFC debut of six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady – not to mention also the Bucs debuts of Leonard Fournette, LeSean McCoy and Rob Gronkowski.

Meanwhile, this could be the final season opener for Saints quarterback Drew Brees as he’s a possibility to retire with a TV job lined up. Brees ranks No. 1 all-time in NFL passing yards and touchdowns and Brady is second. Needless to say, both are first-ballot unanimous Hall of Famers down the road. Brady’s Bucs are 3.5-point underdogs, which is notable as Brady hadn’t been a regular-season dog with his former New England Patriots team since November 2014. Tampa Bay is 4-17 SU in its past 21 as a road dog, but none of those teams had Brady.
