'Concerns were raised' over funding handed to Kids Company

At least A 46 million of public money was handed to Kids Company despite repeated concerns being raised by officials about the way the now collapsed charity was being run. The charity, which was led by its high-profile founder Camila Batmanghelidjh, relied on taxpayer funding for its cash flow and would issue public warnings about its future whenever there were concerns about the continued supply of government money, spending watchdog the National Audit Office found.

State offering up hundreds of unclaimed items for auction; some can be viewed in New Bedford

Unclaimed property including jewelry, coins and baseball memorabilia is being put up for auction by the state and you can see some of what’s up for bid from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday in New Bedford at the Massachusetts State Lottery offices, 200 Theodore Rice Blvd. State Treasurer Deb Goldberg said the vast majority of items come from abandoned safe deposit boxes that have gone unclaimed for a period of at least nine years despite efforts to reunite them with their rightful owners. The items are being displayed at the Statehouse on Monday ahead of a live auction that begins Saturday on eBay.

AFTER years of delays and disappointment, council chiefs believe progress is finally being made on bringing the Mechanics’ Institute back to life. The iconic building has been falling into disrepair since it shut in 1986 but hopes are rising that redevelopment of the adjacent Carriage Works could breathe new life into the historic building.
