BtoBet furthers Argentina presence with “GuazuBet” deal

Wildar Gaming, BtoBet’s Certified partner for the Latin American region, has penned an agreement with GuazuBet, an Argentinian operator licensed specifically in the province of Misiones. The agreement will allow the operator to make use of BtoBet’s platforms to deliver an optimal user experience to its fold of players. This has been the latest of a series of partnerships throughout this first two quarters of the year, which has seen BtoBet expand significantly its footprint particularly in the LatAm and African markets.

Focusing on setting a high standard of UX, GuazuBet will be delivering a diverse portfolio of offerings to its players based on local and international sports betting – including live sports events – and online and live casino.

Wildar Gaming’s General Director, Nicolas Enjamio, stated his satisfaction at the growth of BtoBet’s White Label Partnership Program in the Latin American region, a region that he expects to be hugely transformed in the next few years. He stated that the evolving nature of the whole region, not only from a technological but also from a jurisdictional point of view, requires deep knowledge at a local level.

An insight that is also shared by BtoBet’s CEO, Alessandro Fried, who stated that many operators have a tendency to err by adopting a single approach to the whole Latin American region. “This is obviously not the case,” stated Fried. “Each country in the region requires its own unique approach, not only due to the technological differences differentiating one country from another, but also from a player preference perspective. What applies in Mexico, does not apply in Argentina, and this is a fundamental principle that operators need to take heed of.”

Industry leaders headline Betting on Sports 2019 conference

Jason Robins (DraftKings), Paris Smith (Pinnacle), Jose Duarte (BetCris), Dominik Beier (Interwetten), Lahcene Merzoug (ComeOn!), Jesper Svensson (Betsson), Carmelo Mazza (Betaland), Sergey Portnov (Parimatch) and Stan Reoutt, (Fonbet) represent just a small selection of the industry CEOs taking to the stage at this year’s Betting on Sports conference.

Organiser SBC Events has released the full agenda for the fourth edition of its flagship event, which has seen significant growth to both the conference and exhibition, including the addition of the CasinoBeats Summit.

The event is held at Olympia London from 17-20 September, and will feature more than 300 industry expert speakers across 13 specialist tracks, with an expected 3,500 delegates in attendance from around the world – a 30 per cent increase from 2018.

Speaking at last year’s event, Robins said: “Betting on Sports has been fantastic. It gets better and better every year. There is obviously a lot of excitement based on the new US regulation. So it seems like it’s bigger than ever this year.”

UEFA Nations League: Portugal are the champions after a tepid Dutch affair

Portugal adds another piece of silverware to a once barren trophy cabinet after a victory over the Netherlands in an uninspiring UEFA Nations League Final.

When UEFA announced their intention to create a Nations League, there was a sceptic for every person suffering a rifle butt to the head searching for antiseptic.

Today, even the most calloused of sceptics have to admit that for once, UEFA, got it right. Mindless European friendlies have gone the way of Paul Scholes’ asthma pump, replaced by some of the most refreshing international football we have seen in years.

It’s a shame the final wasn’t handcuffed to that same pizzazz.

Live Tournament News: wins for Salter & Sitbon at The Wynn; Altman & Apter at The Venetian

A round-up of live tournaments from the periphery of the World Series of Poker including wins for Jack Salter and Julien Sitbon at The Wynn, and Brian Altman and Brett Apter at The Venetian.

Occasionally, the dreamers that have come to Las Vegas to win gold bracelets leave their Rio-based colony, and when they do, two of their alternative anthills are The Wynn and The Venetian.

The Wynn Summer Classic takes in the loose shavings from the World Series of Poker (WSOP) lathe, and in the past week, two $1k events have been on the schedule.

Louis Salter conquered a field of 484-entrants, including beating the mighty Connor Drinan, heads-up, to win the first of two $1k events. The win was Salter’s third of his career, and the British pro has now earned more than $1.3m in live tournament earnings.

NBA forces Shaq to ditch BetOnline as podcast sponsor

Basketball great Shaquille O’Neal’s ties to online sports betting operator BetOnline has earned a rebuke from the National Basketball Association.

Since 2015, Shaq has produced an extremely popular podcast titled The BIG Podcast with Shaq, which is distributed by podcast network PodcastOne. One of the BIG show’s top sponsors is Antigua-based online sportsbook BetOnline, but that relationship is set to end now that the NBA has finally clued in to the deal.

Bookies.com reported Monday that NBA officials had become aware of the connection after ads appeared listing BetOnline as a ‘presenting sponsor’ of the BIG podcast. While the BIG show’s online promos continue to display BetOnline links, an NBA official confirmed that the league had conducted an investigation which revealed that Antigua (shock!) was not one of the 50 US states and thus BetOnline’s connection to BIG would have to end.

(For the record, the legality of Antigua-licensed online betting operators serving US customers has been upheld by multiple rulings at the World Trade Organization. The unwillingness of the US government to acknowledge these defeats doesn’t make them any less valid, particularly when the US has repeatedly applied its own domestic laws on an extraterritorial basis.)

Milwaukee vs. Houston MLB betting preview

All the hype around baseball early this week will be on the Subway Series between the New York Mets and Yankees as well as the Freeway Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels. Those are the two biggest media markets in the United States, so the TV networks like ESPN will fawn over them.

However, there’s only one realistic World Series preview early this week, and that’s Milwaukee Brewers at Houston Astros. They open a two-game set at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday, and the Astros will be betting favorites in each game – Houston opened at -150 on the moneyline for Tuesday night’s matchup. Because it’s only a two-game set, there will be no series line because there could obviously be a tie.

Both these teams lost in their respective League Championship Series in 2018, with Milwaukee falling in seven games to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston dropping out in five to the Boston Red Sox. The Astros, a former National League team, won their first-ever title the year before. The Brewers have yet to win a title and only have reached one World Series, back in 1982.

For the first time ever, DraftKings will offer its innovative daily fantasy games for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, making women’s soccer the 13th DFS category for DraftKings, which continues to lead the pack in available sports among fantasy operators.

“All eyes will be on the matches in France, and we are excited to offer soccer fans a more engaging way to enjoy the action,” said Matt Kalish, CRO and co-founder of DraftKings. “The passion of our fans informs our innovation and product roadmap, so for such a special event that only comes along every four years, we wanted to ensure our full complement of offerings would be at their fingertips.”

Fueling the DraftKings Women’s World Cup contests are the company’s data capabilities, which will source match and player information at every moment of play for fans to leverage in their daily fantasy selections. Customers can enjoy DraftKings Classic and Showdown modes for World Cup matches, constructing lineups of six players while staying within a $50,000 salary cap range and designating a “captain” slot that grants one player a bonus multiplier. Classic contests will require selecting players from more than one match, while Showdown contests must include players from each team in a single match.

In addition to the daily fantasy contests available in eight countries around the world – including the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Australia – fans in New Jersey and Mississippi will be able to legally bet on the Women’s World Cup for the first time via DraftKings Sportsbook, with mobile only available in New Jersey.

To get in the game inside the game during the Women’s World Cup, players can either head to www.draftkings.com or download the DraftKings app via iOS and Android.

Philippines NBI warns of kidnapping loan sharks after recent arrests

Just because someone is friendly and offering you money doesn’t mean they are your friend. As a good example of that lesson, visitors to casinos located in the Philippines should be wary strangers offering loans, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) warned on June 7, as reported by the government outlet Philippine News Agency.

Specifically, there’s a risk that gamblers, and particularly tourists, might be kidnapped if they are unable to pay back their loans. Ferdinand Lavin, an NBI spokesperson, advised the public that if a money lender approaches them, “people playing in casinos should approach the hotel staff and security for help immediately.”

This reminder comes fresh off of the arrest of six suspects, five Chinese and one Filipino-Chinese, on charges of kidnapping and holding three people in Parañaque City, an area of the Metro Manila area in close vicinity to the Entertainment City. They were demanding their hostages pay PHP7 million ($130,000), the amount of their loan plus interest.

Three of the suspects were arrested in a sting operation. The other three tried to spring their friends from jail by offering a large bribe to the NBI Cyber Crime Division, and were then also arrested.

Takahiro Usui out, Hiromi Okada in at Aruze Gaming

On June 7, Aruze announced that longtime CEO Takahiro Usui would be stepping down after 14 years in his position. He will be replaced by Chief Financial Officer Yugo Kinoshita in a shakeup at the top that also included Hiromi Okada joining the board of directors.

Takahiro Usui is stepping down at the end of this month for what has been described as “personal reasons.” He helped to turn Aruze into a worldwide leader in the gaming industry. “The Aruze Board of Directors collectively would like to thank Takahiro for his incredible efforts and accomplishments while at Aruze and we wish him well in all his future endeavors,” explained Vice-Chairman of the Board Rich Pennington.

Under the leadership of Usui, Azure has become one of the most influential companies in the gambling industry. Not only have they added to their portfolio by inking deals with companies such as Walker Digital Table Systems, but have expanded operations into the Mediterranean. This included gaining gaming licenses for both Greece and Cyprus last year.

In his place steps Yugo Kinoshita, who has been serving as both the CFO and the Chief Strategy Officer. While remaining on the board of directors, he will step in as the CEO. He has been with the company since 2012.

Lottery scandal to provide former Thailand PM with jail time

Last month, a former Prime Minister (PM) of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, was sentenced to three years in prison for using his position for economic gain. When active as the PM ten years ago, he ordered the country’s Export-Import Bank to give a loan to a satellite communications company that was controlled by him and his family, and a separate case has now seen two more years tacked on. Shinawatra apparently believed he was above the law.

Thailand’s Supreme Court, through its Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions, asserts that the former politician ran a lottery scheme from 2003 on that was similar to other games typically associated with illegal bookmakers. He was found guilty of launching two- and three-digit lottery games and his goal was “to steer some of the money that went to it to government coffers instead,” according to comments by the Associated Press.

Gambling is illegal in Thailand in almost all forms. The country operates a state-run lottery and there is parimutel horseracing, but everything else is prohibited per the country’s Gambling Act of 1935. Of course, this doesn’t prevent illegal gambling operations, which still run rampant and allegedly collect billions of dollars each year.

Shinawatra was a billionaire before his political aspirations surfaced. He had been heavily involved in the telecommunications and IT industries and used his money to create Thailand’s Rak Thai Party before rising to lead the country. He was elected PM in 2001 in an easy win and then reelected four years later.

Melco Resorts Philippines to be delisted as of tomorrow

News of Melco Resorts and Entertainment (Philippines) Corp. being delisted from the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) has been circulating for about a month. The day has arrived and, as of tomorrow, Melco will no longer be found among the exchange’s offerings. The exchange chose to delist the company after it repeatedly failed to meet certain listing requirements.

Melco acknowledged the delisting in a filing today, stating, “The corporation hereby informs the public that per Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) Memorandum CN No. 2019-0023 dated May 14, 2019, the corporation will be automatically delisted from the official registry of the PSE effective on June 11, 2019, by reason of its public ownership remaining below the minimum threshold prescribed under the PSE Rule on Minimum Public Ownership for a period of more than six months.”

Melco was warned last month that it would be removed from the PSE after receiving several notifications that it was in violation of listing guidelines. Specifically, the company was meant to keep at least 10% of its stock floated; otherwise, if it failed to correct the issue by June 11, it would have to be delisted. Melco had already seen trading on the exchange suspended – on December 10 of last year – because it didn’t meet the listing requirement.
